The Effects of Package Design and Brand Image on Consumers¡¦ Purchase Intention ¡Ð Packaged Tea as an Example

Ko, Ding-fu 16 June 2009 (has links)
The latest data reveals, in 2008, the total market value of tea beverage in Taiwan exceeded 20 billion NT dollars. Because the tea beverage market is extremely large, there are dozens of brands in the market. When a customer wants to choose a product from kinds of choices, what factors does he/she consider? According to former research, we know that the factors include price, brand, package design, sales promotion and advertisement. However, we still didn¡¦t know how they affect consumers buying tea beverage. Consequently, this study researched that if both package design and brand image have notable influences on consumers¡¦ purchase intention for packaged tea by regression analysis. The major results for the research are as follows: 1.Approximate 90% of respondents usually buy packaged tea in convenient stores. Half of them indicate that their motivations of buying packaged tea are thirst-quenching. More than half of respondents buy Uni-president most frequently, and then is Vitalon. 2.This study uses two tea brands as subjects to test the hypothesis repeatedly. The results revealed that package design have notable influence on purchase intention. So, manufacturers should change the package design irregularly and try to analyze the merits and drawbacks to improve the package. 3.The results also revealed that brand image have notable influence on purchase intention. It represents that brand image play a significant role in a consumer¡¦s purchasing process. Manufacturers should pass through the basic threshold, or their products would not be acceptant by consumers.

Package design for children: do practitioners get it right?

Chareonsakdi, Thidarat January 2009 (has links)
The literature indicates that children are highly influenced by product packaging and that it is the packaging that will make the product stand out from the crowd and hopefully making a sale. There have been a number of valuable studies offering practitioners principles and guidelines on how to enhance package design for products that target children; however the extent to which practitioners adhere to the principles proposed by academics has had limited attention. This study is therefore aimed at examining the degree to which practitioners implement current knowledge relating to the principles of package design in the context of packages designed to attract children, while simultaneously assessing the relationship between package design and brand performance. An extensive secondary research of the literature has been made to establish a list of criterion for package design for children elements assessment. At the same time, attempts have been made to gather brand performance data. Product samples have been collected from major supermarkets in New Zealand and then analysed against the criterion using the principle of content analysis. The result generated by this study shows that practitioners are mostly adhering to the principles of children’s package design established by academic research. However, the relationship between brand performance and package design was not established in this study.

Konsumentbeteende och förpackningsdesign : Ett samspel i butikshyllan

Andersson, Kajsa, Bergström, Terese January 2016 (has links)
A highly competitive market has forced companies to find new ways to market themselves. Using package design has proven to be a powerful tool for companies to reach out with their marketing to consumers. The package has got a major role as a last step to communicate the brand to the consumers. This study aims to examine and analyse what factors influence a consumer in the decision making process when choosing a packaged product in the FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) industry. Three focus group interviews with consumers has generated qualitative data which is presented in relation to the theoretical framework of the study. The results show that there are many factors in addition to the package that also have a bearing on what product a consumer ultimately choose. A conclusion is drawn that different factors work together to influence the consumers choice of product. However, consumers seem to be less affected by the package than by past preferences, brand and price. Overall an interaction between design and form, price, positioning and content is required to create a successful package design.

Design da embalagem: um estudo de caso de uvas européias com semente / Packaging design: a study case of european grape with seeds

Kamitsuji, Lina Megumi 04 May 2011 (has links)
The grape is one of the most consumed fresh fruit in Brazil and worldwide. Because Its fragility and perishability, it requires proper packaging, which also serves to protect, expose and promote. We have interviewed 33 wholesalers responsible for 80% of the volume of seeded european grape at Sao Paulo Terminal Market of CEAGESP. The first interview has evaluated the characteristics and importance of packaging perception by wholesalers. At the second interview the wholesalers have chosen the package ideal characteristies for the seeded european grapes and they have concluded for four different package models. The common characteristics of the ideal packaging are: corrugated box, open box, with tabs on the sides, reinforcing the corners, waterproofing, white background, two-color cover (red and green), with illustration, weight 5 kg, height 14 cm, width 30 cm and length 40 cm. The characteristics that differentiate are the number of ventilation holes, two or three and the place of locks - on the frontlet or the side.

Deadly in pink: The impact of female-oriented cigarette packaging on brand appeal, beliefs about smoking, and risk perceptions among young women

Doxey, Juliana Rose January 2009 (has links)
Industry documents and anecdotal evidence suggest that cigarette packaging can target women by enhancing brand appeal and influencing important beliefs about smoking. Little research has been conducted on how cigarette pack design might contribute to young women's faulty beliefs about smoking. This study sought to identify package designs that promote misleading beliefs about the health effects of smoking and the relationship between smoking and weight control, and that increase brand appeal among young women; as well as the extent to which plain packaging reduces these beliefs. A between-subjects experiment was conducted in which 512 participants between the ages of 18-25 years viewed cigarette packs using a computerized survey in one of four conditions: female-oriented (n = 141); female-oriented with descriptors (i.e., slims) removed (n = 125); female-oriented without brand imagery or descriptors (“plain”; n = 122); and standard non-female oriented (n = 124). Participants rated 8 cigarette packs on perceptions of appeal, taste, tar, and health risks; and answered questions about smoking and weight control and attitudes towards smoking. Results of the study indicated that women found the female-oriented packs most appealing. Participants also believed that the female-oriented packs had fewer health risks than the same packs with descriptors removed. Women who viewed the plain packs were less likely to believe that smoking helps people control their appetites compared to women who viewed the female-oriented and non-female oriented packs. Women with more weight concerns were more likely to believe in a relationship between smoking and weight control. Overall, this study demonstrates that as packages become “plainer” they become less appealing. Women viewing plain packs were less likely to endorse the belief that smoking can be used for appetite control, and that smoking helps people stay slim; and as descriptors were removed, packs were perceived to have more health risks. Results of the study extend the evidence base on the impact of cigarette packaging on women, and provide support for the implementation of plain packaging to reduce package appeal and faulty beliefs about smoking.
