Reconstructing paedophilia: an analysis of current discourses and the construct of close relationships

Naude, Jonelle 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MSc (Psychology))--University of Stellenbosch, 2005. / There is a growing need for research to facilitate a better understanding of paedophilia. This study aims to make a contribution in this regard by providing an analysis of current discourses in paedophilia research as well as a phenomenological exploration of how the male paedophile constructs his close relationships with children. Analysis reveals how the dominant positivist approach to paedophilia research embeds and perpetuates moral and often prejudicial positions that in turn influence the validity of empirical findings and theory, and tend to marginalise contradictory evidence. In an attempt to circumvent these obstacles, it is argued that the psychological need to form close relationships is a universal one.

Pédérastie, pédophilie : filiation, rupture, déviance

Ducharme, Marie-Eve 08 1900 (has links)
This research proposes a reflection on the stakes of pedophilia in contemporary western society. In the first chapter, we will raise the question of authority: in order to understand the relation with authority and the importance of a hierarchic system in the contemporary western society, we will compare it with the Greek society which accepted and valued intergenerational relationships. It is especially through a reading of various texts from Michel Foucault and Kenneth James Dover that this study will be conducted. This first part is necessary to understand how the bases of contemporary western society were established, the importance of genders’ categorization and the reason behind the rejection of pedophilia today. In the second chapter, we will more specifically analyze two novels, Thomas Mann’s La Mort à Venise and Tony Duvert’s Quand mourut Jonathan. It is mainly through a study of social figures and education that we will be able to understand the place given to pedophilia. This study will close in a reflection about photography and cinema in order to emphasize the impact of these arts’ realism. We will therefore approach non-pornographic works of art that present existing but never recognized sexualities. These different aspects will enable us to fully understand the embarrassment provoked by pedophilia today, but also to recognize the place it is given, or not, within contemporary society.

Marafiga, Caroline Velásquez 23 July 2009 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-03-05T19:36:36Z (GMT). The pedophilia is considered a sexual deviation characterized by intense sexuality behaviors involving humiliation and suffering to children and adolescents. Patients with this diagnosis submitted to legal procedures, in judiciary asylum, have the possibility, in Rio Grande do Sul, to be part of a process called of Progressive Discharge (PD). The PD is a benefit granted by the Judiciary to patients who are complying security measure in judiciary asylums. This practice is a gradual discharge that aims the social reintegration of individuals considered exempt from punishment and who committed crimes. This dissertation addresses questions about the family, education and one perception of PD related to patients, who have committed sexual violence against children and / or adolescents, and who were diagnosed as pedophiles, that were or are going through the process of progressive discharge and are fulfilling their security measures.

Cazala, Fadwa 19 November 2014 (has links)
In contrast to the numerous studies about the neural underpinnings of normal sexual motivation, brain correlates of pedophilia are still largely unknown. The present thesis aimed to identify functional networks involved in pedophile sexual arousal. Therefore, we investigated with fMRI the activation profile of 13 heterosexual and 12 homosexual pedophiles, compared to each other and to 24 matched healthy subjects, in response to visual sexual stimuli depicted adult (women/men) and child (girls/boy) wearing swimsuits, while neutral ones depicted ordinarily dressed adult and dressed children. Results showed that brain responses of heterosexual and homosexual pedophiles were not statistically different from those of matched healthy subjects, in response to their respective preferred stimuli. They were located in occipital, temporal and parietal brain areas known to be involved in sexual arousal in healthy subjects. In the line of penile plethysmographic studies, analysis also showed that homosexual and heterosexual pedophiles may process non preferred child stimuli as relevant sexual stimuli. This could be explained by a bipolar dimension of morphological similarity, on which children are located near the middle, and adult men and women are located at opposite ends.

Sexuální reaktivita teleiofilních a pedofilních mužů na audio stimuly (replikační studie) / : Sexual reactivity of teleiophilic and pedophilic men to audio stimuli (a replication study)

Vagenknecht, Václav January 2017 (has links)
The assessment of pedophilic sexual preferences is an important part of forensic and research practice. Standardization of methods and stimuli used across sites is missing, making data transferability and comparability more difficult. The aim of this study was to investigate if the stimuli used in the USA and Canada are able to reliably distinguish between pedophilic and control subjects in the Czech Republic, based on their elicited sexual arousal. A stimuli set was first translated into Czech and voice recordings were created for the narratives. Sexual arousal was measured using circumferential penile plethysmography. 29 pedophilic (15 heterosexual; 14 homosexual) and 26 control (12 heterosexual; 12 homosexual) participants took part in the study. The sample comprised mostly non- delinquent individuals. The results revealed a significant difference in the subjective sexual arousal ratings as well as sexual reactivity between pedophiles and control participants in response to both child and adult stimulus categories. Correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between subjective ratings and sexual reactivity to both child and adult stimulus categories. The results indicate that the audio recordings are a suitable tool to distinguish between pedophiles and controls. The...

The Regulation of Sex Robots - An argumentative study regarding the possible risks sex robots expose women and children to

Rasmusson, Ida January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to defend and prove, through four contexts and various arguments, the research standpoint which states that there should be a regulation of sex robots and the use of sex robots. The method used is an argumentation analysis which is used to analyze the arguments pro and contra sex robots and the use of the robotic device. Through a normative framework, the precautionary principle is applied, along with various Human Rights Conventions, as a ground in favor of the regulation. The concluding thoughts of the thesis show that the majority of arguments prove there being the possible risks of objectification, pedophilia, sexual assault, and rape, that sex robots expose women and children to, and therefore there should be a regulation of sex robots and the use of sex robots.

The Lived Experiences of Men Attracted to Minors and Their Therapy-Seeking Behaviors

Cacciatori, Heather 01 January 2017 (has links)
This study explored the lived experiences of men attracted to minors who believed they would benefit from therapy but did not seek out or attend therapeutic services; and sought to gain an understanding of how the decision to seek help or not impacted their well-being. Participants included 7 men who were recruited through the B4U-ACT online forum, which provides peer support for the minor attracted community. Participants were interviewed over Skype. Data from these interviews was analyzed and coded according to the interpretative phenomenological method as outlined by Smith et al. (2012). Five main themes emerged, providing insight as to why more therapeutic support is not sought. These themes include: emotional distress, consideration of therapy, actual and perceived stigmatization, expectations of therapist assumptions, expectations of professionalism, and therapeutic support. The findings were compared with existing literature to propose ways mental health professionals can provide easier access to resources and reach the population, which can lead to societal benefits. Improved access to treatment has the potential to provide the population opportunities to better cope with stigma, manage their impulses more effectively, lower their feelings of isolation, and increase their overall well-being. This study helps to fill the current void in the area of research on help-seeking behaviors and the associated challenges that men attracted to minors may face.

Accounts and sexual deviance in cyberspace: the case of pedophilia

Durkin, Keith F. 06 June 2008 (has links)
This research is unique because it represents the first sociological study of pedophiles who use the Internet. The data were gathered from a Usenet newsgroup that is frequented by pedophiles. A content analysis was performed on all of the postings from admitted pedophiles (N=41) that appeared on this newsgroup during a one month period. Scott and Lyman’s classic formulation of accounts served as the conceptual framework for this study. The primary research question was: "How do pedophiles who use the Internet account for their deviance?” There were four ancillary objectives to this analysis: (1) to ascertain the degree to which pedophiles who participate in this newsgroup provide validation to, and seek validation from, other users; (2) to investigate the extent to which pedophiles who participate in this forum provide information to, and seek information from, other users; (3) to assess the degree to which pedophiles use this newsgroup to seek correspondence with other pedophiles; and (4) to determine the extent to which users of this newsgroup are members of the pedophile organization NAMBLA (the North American/Man Boy Love Association). Slightly more than one-half of the pedophiles in the sample provided some type of account in defense of pedophilia or adults having sex with children. Thirty-nine percent offered a denial of injury account; 31.7% proffered a condemnation of condemners account; 14.6% provided a BIRGing account; and 4.9% used an appeal to loyalties account. Also, nearly one-fourth of these pedophiles used polythematic accounts. The results of this research also indicate that this computer forum serves a validation function for these pedophiles. Moreover, many of the postings that appeared on this newsgroup contained information that should be of interest to pedophiles. Some of these on-line pedophiles use this newsgroup to establish correspondence with other pedophiles. Although only a few of the pedophiles in this sample indicated a NAMBLA affiliation, these individuals frequently provided accounts which reflect the ideology of that pedophile organization. / Ph.
