Mobile phone applications targeted towards medicine adherence in Africa: A systematic review

Masoga, Nora Makgwara January 2020 (has links)
>Magister Scientiae - MSc / According to the WHO (2017), non-communicable diseases (NCDs) which include stroke, cancer, heart disease, chronic respiratory disease and diabetes is the leading cause of death and is responsible for seventy one percent of deaths worldwide. Beaglehole et al., (2009) reported that management of chronic diseases depends primarily on early detection of early disease, identification of high-risk status, interventions including pharmacological and psychosocial intercessions and long term follow up with monitoring and promotion of adherence to treatment.

Diagnostic tool for trucks : -from idea to demonstrator

Wang, Qi, Ma, Yinrong January 2013 (has links)
Vehicles can end up in unplanned visits to workshops due to the driver not checking the vehicle status before using it in traffic. There are many factors not only caused by the environment but also due to the lack of tools that simplify or reminds about beforehand inspections. The purpose of this project was to introduce a smart-phone application that can display the health state (or related parameters) of a vehicle in a brief way and indicate if a part or function of the truck is not working properly. There are six functions in the application. Function status and function fault codes can display information about vehicles by giving two-dimensional plots about vehicle data, while function VSR displays some information in the form of text. Also, the user can submit their feedback through function comment. Function position is designed to give the users specific perspectives on an imported map based on their different user identity. Function check reminds about inspections that must be made before setting out on a driving mission. The application allows bus drivers and managers to continuously monitor different vehicle parameters with a statistical summary over time, as well as providing a method for following-up that drivers perform basic checks on the vehicle before it is taken into traffic.

Using a cell phone application to support caregivers of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Pelser, Kerry-Beth January 2019 (has links)
This mini-dissertation aims to explore the daily realities faced by caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorder and the implications thereof on the use of a cell phone application that can assist in easing the tension between the need for support and the lack of resources to secure that support whenever necessary. Bronfenbrenner’s bio-ecological systems theory, in addition to the assets-based approach, forms the basis on which the study is conceptualised. Using a qualitative approach, a case study research design was used to select the participant by means of purposive sampling. The research participant used the application that was selected for a period of ten days, after which a semi-structured interview was conducted as the primary mode of data collection. The data were then analysed, using inductive thematic analysis, after which themes and subthemes were derived. The findings of the study indicated that the research participant faces a meaningful lack of financial support and social support, and that the cell phone application was seen as a useful tool for supporting her child in spite of this. The study contributed to expanding the current research body on this topic. A major limitation was the sample size of the study being too small for the results to be generalised. Recommendations include that cell phone applications be designed with users’ cultural and language preferences in mind and that more studies of this nature be done. / Dissertation (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2019. / Educational Psychology / MEd / Unrestricted

Parents' perception of technology in a Swedish kindergarten and technostress amongst preschool teachers

Temelkov, Vasil January 2019 (has links)
The new changes in the Swedish curriculum for the educational system demand more digitalization in the kindergartens. However previous studies have shown that the current level of handling technology amongst preschool teachers in Swedish kindergarten is low and may create difficulties in their work. This thesis investigates a kindergarten that wants to implement a mobile app for more transparent and effective communication between preschool teachers and parents. The aims are to highlight the common perceptions and expectations from a parental point of view concerning a mobile app for communication while establishing if the preschool teachers experience technostress at their work. The data were gathered from conducting interviews and one online survey. The main finding of this study was that preschool teachers and parents should be more involved in the process of finding a suitable mobile app so they would be motivated to contribute to better daily communication. This study suggests that the most important strategies for implementing a mobile app for communication are to inform, educate and involve all the concerned parties.

Skapande av ett medlemskortsverktyg med hjälp av UML

Granfors, Ville, Waller, Johan January 2015 (has links)
The goal with this bachelor thesis has been to model and implement a system for generating membership cards for sports associations on behalf of Express-Bild AB. By using their webpage, the company wants a privileged user of an association to be able to create a membership card for the association. A member of the association should then be able to download and view the card in his android device. When the card is displayed in the device, it should be posible to rotate the card when the device is being tilted. When the card is displayed in a vertical position, should also offers about discounts be displayed in the same view. The possiblity to administrate these cards should exists on the webpage. To accomplish this, three subsystems has been indentified: One system for the creation of a card template, one for uploading important resourdces for the card, and one for creating, downloading and displaying the individual membership card to the device. Models for these systems were established in UML to increase the understanding, and the insight of the systems structure and functionality. These models were later used when implementing the systems. The result of the thesis was a system that fulfilled most of the requirements that Express-Bild had. The only requirement that was not implemented was the one about displaying offers in the membership card view.

Impact of applications on water consumption

Corazza, Junior January 2022 (has links)
Water scarcity is a growing problem on Earth. One of the goals in Agenda 2030, whichall of the UN members adapted is to make clean water accessible by everyone and ensuresustainable water withdrawals. In order to take a step towards the solution, a companynamed Quandify has developed smart water meters to measure households’ water consumptionwhich can be installed by anyone. In this bachelor’s thesis, the author collaborates with Quandify to develop a proofof concept (POC) to investigate if it was possible to create a mobile phone applicationthat could help residents reduce their water consumption. The author uses state of artsuggestions in persuasive technology literature and usability heuristics for user interactiondesign and implements it into the application to increase the chance of user behaviourchange towards water consumption. The result is a mobile phone application where the users get inspiration and tips onhow to reduce their water consumption and lets the users see their water consumptionin real-time. The report also includes a small POC user study to rate the mobile phoneapplication with respect to usability heuristics.

[en] AUGMENTED REALITY IN MOBILE PHONES: A STUDY ON THE TECHNOLOGY AND ITS POTENTIALS / [pt] REALIDADE AUMENTADA EM CELULARES: UM ESTUDO SOBRE A TECNOLOGIA E SEUS POTENCIAIS

BRENDA DE FIGUEIREDO LUCENA 07 August 2013 (has links)
[en] This dissertation investigates situations that require the overlay of digital information to the user environment, a condition provided by the use of Augmented Reality (AR) technology. In the research, there are considered applications of the technology that uses the Video See-Through (VST) technique on mobile phones. The dissertation presents different definitions of AR, delimiting tangent concepts such as Virtual Reality and Ubiquitous Computing, to arouse a discussion about the definitions. Then, it presents some of the mobile applications most used in the market, analyzing the impact on using some specific tools in its creation and development process. Considering further social and philosophical aspects inherent to the technology, it seeks to better understand the basic concepts of space, time and reality that the AR uses to operate, in order to support the discussion about the technology and to create the theoretical basis for subsequent analysis.

Multi-Sensor Data Synchronization using Mobile Phones

Wåhslén, Jonas January 2013 (has links)
Body sensor networking is a rapidly growing technology. Today wearable sensors are used to measure and monitor e.g. pulse, temperature, skin conductance, heart activity, and movement (through GPS or inertial measurement units). Mobile phones can act as coordinating nodes in wireless personal area networks used in home automation, healthcare, sport and wellness e.g. to measure pulse and distance. Integration of data from multiple sources sensors (data fusion) means that data from each sensor node needs to be associated with data from other sensor nodes sampled at approximately the same time. Accurate methods for time synchronization are therefore a necessary prerequisite for reliable data fusion. This thesis studies time synchronization problems in Bluetooth piconets between multiple wireless sensor nodes connected to a mobile phone that acts as coordinating node. Three different algorithms to enable correct data fusion have been developed, implemented and evaluated. The first is a single clock solution that synchronizes multiple wireless sensor nodes based solely on the mobile phone’s clock. The other two algorithms synchronize the clocks in sensor nodes to the clock in the coordinating node. / <p>QC 20130605</p>
