Vault: Exploring the effects of social and collaborative platforms in a mobile relational learning application

Åckerström, Fredrik, Johansson, Niklas January 2019 (has links)
Mobile devices is today a big part of our lives and it has changed how we do our everyday activities, such as reading a book or watching our favorite show. This has also caused changes in our education or more specifically how we learn and teach others [1]. The fast growth of technology has had a big effect on our education, which has led to the adaption of both the structure of education as well as the educational materials [1,2]. The development of technology has also allowed for it to combine with learning techniques, such as collaborative learning. Collaborative learning is based on the concept that the natural way to learn is by communicating with each other [4]. Collaborative learning is connected to the social aspects, where the big rise of social platforms have shown that they can be a new and more present-day education area. The interactions on these platforms have proved to be able to help create a new digital area of knowledge [29].In this thesis there was a continuation of development of the Android application Vault. Vault is built upon the philosophies of mobile learning, relational learning and parkour. Mobile learning allows for people to learn at any time wherever they are [3]. In relational learning the traditional student and teacher relationship doesn’t exist, where instead everyone learns from each other by sharing ideas and experiences [6]. Parkour, also known as the art of movement [27], is a philosophy where people share experiences as they learn and find different paths to display their skills [28]. Parkour also have a focus on repeating what other people have done. The features implemented in the further development of Vault was decided by an application analysis where social and collaborative platforms were analysed. It was then examined how these features could be integrated with the philosophies that Vault was built upon. Vault was later tested on two physical education teachers which both had ten days to test out the application with its new features after which a interview followed. The goal of the interviews were to get information about how the new features affected the learning and user experience compared to the old version produced by Linderman’s thesis [5].

Compressed MobileNet V3: An efficient CNN for resource constrained platforms

Prasad, S. P. Kavyashree 05 1900 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Computer Vision is a mathematical tool formulated to extend human vision to machines. This tool can perform various tasks such as object classification, object tracking, motion estimation, and image segmentation. These tasks find their use in many applications, namely robotics, self-driving cars, augmented reality, and mobile applications. However, opposed to the traditional technique of incorporating handcrafted features to understand images, convolution neural networks are being used to perform the same function. Computer vision applications widely use CNNs due to their stellar performance in interpreting images. Over the years, there have been numerous advancements in machine learning, particularly to CNNs.However, the need to improve their accuracy, model size and complexity increased, making their deployment in restricted environments a challenge. Many researchers proposed techniques to reduce the size of CNN while still retaining its accuracy. Few of these include network quantization, pruning, low rank, and sparse decomposition and knowledge distillation. Some methods developed efficient models from scratch. This thesis achieves a similar goal using design space exploration techniques on the latest variant of MobileNets, MobileNet V3. Using DPD blocks, escalation in the number of expansion filters in some layers and mish activation function MobileNet V3 is reduced to 84.96% in size and made 0.2% more accurate. Furthermore, it is deployed in NXP i.MX RT1060 for image classification on CIFAR-10 dataset.

Integration of Digital Communication in B2B Companies : A qualitative case study of Company X

Sandberg, Emelie, Öhling, Anna January 2017 (has links)
In communication and marketing there have been a shift from a transaction focus with emphasis on persuasion to a relationship focus referred to as a two-way communication with increased interactivity. Traditional companies are challenged to understand how their business can take advantage and adapt to the digital changes and opportunities when it comes to communication and building relationships and gain the ability to anticipate and deliver what customers expect them to. B2B companies have a slower adaption to digital media and digital changes compared to B2C companies and when it comes to digital channels there is many opportunities to discover. B2B companies still feel dependent on traditional communication when it comes to building relationships but the digital trend pressure companies to get involved and keep up digitally. The constantly expanding digital landscape force B2B companies to find a way to utilize digital platforms and channels in order to create strong digital relationships with retailer and audience The purpose of this study is to investigate and gain an understanding how B2B wholesalers communicate and build digital relationships with retailers. A qualitative method is used featuring a single-case study with Company X a B2B firm operating in the wholesale trade business as a producer and a wholesaler. Data used in the study is collected from semi-structured interviews with employees from the sales and marketing department. Digital marketing is one of the most emerging tools within communication, that B2B businesses not yet use to its full potential but are eager to discover the opportunities and advantages B2C companies adapted for a long time. B2B businesses use digital tools to support and strengthen the communication and relationship with retailers however findings reveal traditional tools is still the prefered communication method in B2B. Our findings suggest how there are still qualities lacking in digital communication that can only be achieved through traditional communication with psychical meetings. Empirical suggestion on how a B2B company can adopt techniques from B2C and apply it in a B2B context.

Investigating perceptual aspects of real-time video streaming based remote moving platform control

El Ouardi, Kawthar January 2023 (has links)
Throughout history, the construction industry has been known to present many risks to its workers’ safety and is still the cause of many accidents. This thesis examines a potential solution to one of the main problems faced by this field.Teleoperation has gained popularity, especially over the last ten years, and its application can be useful to many domains. Amongst them, research done on teleoperation tools for construction sites has been growing considerably as it appears to be a solution for some of the safety problems that it’s facing. Through a literature study and the building and running of an experiment, it aims to investigate parameters that can influence the performance and user experience of participants while remotely controlling a platform. By selecting a few parameters that can play a role in video streaming, the goal is to correlate their influence on the quality of experience of participants as they experience a prototype for a construction site. After conducting the experiment with multiple test participants, the results are analyzed and can lead to conclusions. Finally, future improvements can be made for another iteration of the experiment.

Three Essays on the Value-Creating Interactions of Innovative Two-sided Platforms

ZHENG, ZUYIN January 2021 (has links)
In my dissertation, I study factors that affect the value-creating interactions between value producers and value consumers on two-sided platforms (e.g., Freelancer and Kickstarter). In the first essay, I study how bid price dispersion affects the value-creating interactions (i.e., contracting) between service providers (freelancers) and buyers in online labor markets. I find that bid price dispersion has a negative effect on buyers' offering a contract and service providers' tendency to accept the contract if offered one. I theorize that both service providers and buyers face uncertainty over price as to how much to charge or to pay for IT services and a higher bid price dispersion leads to higher uncertainty, and thus a lower contracting rate. In the second essay, I examine the role of the lottery in value-creating interactions (namely backings) in crowdfunding platforms. I find that the lottery, when designed as an option with a participation cost, decreases backers' average contribution and the total value created for a project, albeit it incentivizes more low-value interactions (i.e., more low-value backings). I theorize that the lottery, on the one hand, incentivizes low-value interactions that would otherwise not happen, but on the other hand, transforms high-value interactions into low-value interactions. In the third essay, I study the effect of backers' online identity concealment on the value-creating interactions (i.e., backings) in crowdfunding platforms. Contradictory to a common practice that crowdfunding platforms often maintain a public list of all backers’ identity information, assuming a positive observational learning effect among peer backers, the empirical results demonstrate with backers' online identity concealed completely, campaigns on average gain more backings and money as well as become more likely to succeed. And this effect is larger for donors-those back a campaign without receiving any reward-than for rewardees-those back the campaign for the reward. / Business Administration/Management Information Systems

Semantics-Aware Understanding and Handling of Security and Privacy Problems in Smart Environments

Chi, Haotian, 0000-0002-0222-4660 January 2021 (has links)
Internet of Things (IoT) platforms enable users to connect heterogeneous resource-constrained wireless devices and deploy semantics-rich home automation applications in smart homes. With the proliferation and fragmentation of IoT products, it even becomes a status quo that many smart IoT devices in a smart home are bounded or delegated to multiple IoT platforms, demonstrating the following characteristics. First, an IoT device may interact with more than one IoT platform. Second, a device can be accessed via multiple communication channels (e.g., Zigbee and Bluetooth). Third, automation applications or rules in a smart home may scatter on different platforms, mainly because each platform has its own strengths and restrictions on the supported IoT devices (e.g., many Google Nest devices are not compatible to work with the Amazon platform) and programming features. Despite the convenience brought by the modern platform-backed systems, a variety of attacks targeting the devices, applications and their interactions arise, which can put the smart home devices to insecure, unsafe, or unexpected states, or can breach users' private information in the daily life. In this dissertation, several semantics-aware security and privacy issues are discussed, analyzed and handled. In one way, we systematically categorized a family of cross-app interference threats and designed a Satisfiability modulo theories (SMT)-based solution to detect them. In another work, we revealed a family of delay-based automation interference attacks that cause cross-rule interference problems in multi-platform multi-path systems. We also studied privacy protection of IoT systems and proposed a semantics-aware customizable data flow control system to protect IoT data from being exploited by third parties and attackers. We also established a command sanitizer solution for detecting cross-app interference problems in multi-platform systems and enforce security and safety policies against various IoT threats. All the works were evaluated in real-world smart home testbeds. / Computer and Information Science
