[en] 3D PORE PRESSURE ESTIMATION / [pt] ESTIMATIVA DE PRESSÃO DE POROS EM 3 DIMENSÕES

BRUNA TEIXEIRA SILVEIRA 26 October 2017 (has links)
[en] The knowledge of pore pressures of rocks is critical to several aspects of petroleum the well design and planning. Usually, in the petroleum industry, estimations are based on 1D analyses of the analogues wells and depend on the professional experience. Moreover, estimations do not consider the whole base data of the field. In this dissertation, is presented a methodology for 3D pore pressure estimation, where well data is calculated for the whole area applying a geostatistical tool to build the 3D properties model. From that, it was possible to make more credible synthetics well logs at any location, enrich the whole area comprehension, and also, to build the pore pressure cube based on Eaton and Bowers pore pressure estimations models.

Contribuição à análise das instabilidades do leito oceânico induzidas pelo carregamento cíclico da onda / Contribution to the analysis of seabed instabilities induced by the wave cyclic loading

Madalozzo, Deborah Marcant Silva January 2016 (has links)
The knowledge of potentially unstable areas on the seabed is of fundamental importance to the development of marine structures, because it allows to install offshore structures in safer areas, reducing possible damages, costs and eventual environmental pollution. In this context, the objective of the present work is to investigate the stability of submarine soil masses subjected to the wave cyclic loading through analytical-numerical approaches. The effect of water waves on the submerged bed is described by the propagation of a pressure wave along its surface, using the Stokes’s linear theory. Soil masses with horizontal and sloped upper surface, composed of cohesive material (clays) and granular materiais (sands) are considered in this study. In soil masses constituted of fine soil, the material strength capacity is modeled by the non-homogeneous Tresca criterion and the stability analysis is carried out in undrained condition. On the other hand, in granular beds, the strength explicitly depends on the pore pressure value, being classically described by the Coulomb criterion without cohesion. Then, the stability analysis is developed in effective stress and the pore pressure gradient acts as a volumetric force on the skeleton, characterizing the main charging mode of this material. Due to the tendency to densify when subjected to a cyclic deviatoric stress state occurs, in general, the build-up of pore pressure excess in the granular mass. Consequently, the coupling between the material behavior and the cyclic loading has fundamental importance in the calculation of the pore pressure excess generated. In order to define the seepage forces, a simplified approach based on the partition of deformations in reversible and irreversible contributions is considered, which allows to decouple the wave-induced pore pressure calculation. Applying the concepts of the limit analysis theory it is possible to formulate upper and lower boundaries of the maximum safe amplitude of the wave loading. Finally, the effects of the seabed surface steepness and of the soil layer thickness on the stability are analyzed.

Ecoulements dans des fractures et milieux poreux en évolution / Flow in evolving fractures and porous media

Eriksen, Fredrik 31 January 2017 (has links)
This thesis is an experimental study of flow and transformation of porous media, where we study both fast and slow transformation of the media due to fluid flow. The fast process is mechanical deformation and channel formation due to high fluid pressure, and the slow process is chemical evolution of fractures. In the study of fast deformation, we perform experiments where air is injected at a constant overpressure into a saturated or dry granular medium. From recorded images, we characterize Saffman-Taylor like invasion patterns, surrounding deformation of the medium, flow regimes, and channel growth dynamics. Pore pressure is evaluated numerically, and used to characterize the rheology. In the study of slow transformation, we perform experiments where distilled water is injected at a constant flow rate through a fractured chalk sample. By comparing fracture apertures measured before and after experiments, we study the evolution of fractures for different durations of reactive flow.

Pore pressure prediction and direct hydrocarbon indicator: insight from the southern pletmos basin, offshore South Africa

Lasisi, Ayodele Oluwatoyin January 2014 (has links)
>Magister Scientiae - MSc / An accurate prediction of pore pressure is an essential in reducing the risk involved in a well or field life cycle. This has formed an integral part of routine work for exploration, development and exploitation team in the oil and gas industries. Several factors such as sediment compaction, overburden, lithology characteristic, hydrocarbon pressure and capillary entry pressure contribute significantly to the cause of overpressure. Hence, understanding the dynamics associated with the above factors will certainly reduce the risk involved in drilling and production. This study examined three deep water drilled wells GA-W1, GA-N1, and GA-AA1 of lower cretaceous Hauterivian to early Aptian age between 112 to 117.5 (MA) Southern Pletmos sub-basin, Bredasdorp basin offshore South Africa. The study aimed to determine the pore pressure prediction of the reservoir formation of the wells. Eaton’s resistivity and Sonic method are adopted using depth dependent normal compaction trendline (NCT) has been carried out for this study. The variation of the overburden gradient (OBG), the Effective stress, Fracture gradient (FG), Fracture pressure (FP), Pore pressure gradient (PPG) and the predicted pore pressure (PPP) have been studied for the selected wells. The overburden changes slightly as follow: 2.09g/cm3, 2.23g/cm3 and 2.24g/cm3 across the selected intervals depth of wells. The predicted pore pressure calculated for the intervals depth of selected wells GA-W1, GA-N1 and GA-AA1 also varies slightly down the depths as follow: 3,405 psi, 4,110 psi, 5,062 psi respectively. The overpressure zone and normal pressure zone were encountered in well GA-W1, while a normal pressure zone was experienced in both well GA-N1 and GA-AA1. In addition, the direct hydrocarbon indicator (DHI) was carried out by method of post-stack amplitude analysis seismic reflectors surface which was used to determine the hydrocarbon prospect zone of the wells from the seismic section. It majorly indicate the zones of thick hydrocarbon sand from the amplitude extraction grid map horizon reflectors at 13AT1 & 8AT1 and 8AT1 & 1AT1 of the well GA-W1, GA-N1 and GA-AA1 respectively. These are suggested to be the hydrocarbon prospect locations (wet-gas to Oil prone source) on the seismic section with fault trending along the horizons. No bright spot, flat spot and dim spot was observed except for some related pitfalls anomalies

Méthodes d'ingénierie pour l'étude du risque de liquéfaction et du tassement sous séisme / Engineering methods for evaluating risk of soil liquefaction and settlements under seismic loading

Kteich, Ziad 07 November 2018 (has links)
The liquefaction of saturated soils during earthquakes is one of the most important problems facing engineers. There has hardly been a major earthquake without at least some cases of liquefaction. Settlements, tilting of buildings, lateral flows, sand boilings and slope instabilities have been some of its manifestations. The seismic design of nuclear power plants and other critical facilities systematically includes a liquefaction risk assessment. In this context, fully empirical methods are commonly used in engineering. These approaches provide design margins and limitations of use. To exploit these margins in a re-evaluation situation, we use advanced nonlinear transient calculations in which the soil behavior must be finely modeled to highlight the pore-water pressure build-up. These last calculations are expensive in terms of time and numerical skills. The objective of this research work is to reduce the conservatisms in force when using the simplified method without necessarily implementing the most sophisticated methods from the outset. To this end, we propose a method of intermediate complexity that broadens the applicability of semi-empirical models for a more detailed analysis of seismic risk.First, starting from a conventional equivalent linear calculation, a new approach for taking into account excess pore pressure is proposed under the name "X-ELM". The behavioral model employed is based on the relationship between pore pressure and plastic volumetric deformations. The new "X-ELM" approach is used to model soil response in the city of Urayasu,Japan during the Tohoku earthquake (Mw = 9.0). The model has been applied to twelve different soil profiles. The study of these cases makes possible the validation of themodel by comparing the results of the calculations with the observations in situ. The model can therefore be considered as a reliable tool for the prediction of liquefaction triggering of saturated soils. Then, a prediction tool was designed based on random process approximations, the basic mechanical properties of the soil and the characteristics of the seismic loading. In addition to its magnitude, an important feature of the input seismic signal is its duration which can lead to strong nonlinearities and an extended liquefaction state. Considering the strong phase duration, the response spectrum, the natural frequency of the model and the characteristics of soil compaction, this tool provides fast estimations of the rate of pore pressure build-up and pre-liquefaction settlement without having to perform transient calculations. Finally, a 2D dam model is studied, by examining the influence of excess pore pressure and that of the shear strains on the seismic response of the structure. An equivalent linear computation adapted to two-dimensional situations is elaborated and the predictor is used to evaluate pore pressure increase. Simulation results are compared with in situ, piezometric and accelerometric observations. In conclusion, this research work provides methods and tools of numerical computation that are efficient and accessible to engineers for the seismic evaluation of soil profiles and earth structures such as dikes or dams

Quality of CPTU : Analyses and comparison of data from commercial actors in Stockholm/Mälardalen

Kardan, Caesar January 2015 (has links)
CPTU is one of the most sophisticated geotechnical investigation methods. However, there is a large amount of uncertainties related to this method. The uncertainties depend on different types of factors, for instance lack of accuracy in performance and equipment. The objective of this master thesis is to compare the CPTU-results from a number of commercial actors in Stockholm/Mälardalen in order to analyze these results with respect to the current standards and guidelines. The comparison was made in order to highlight the difference in results which may appear due to different equipment, performance of the operator and evaluation method. Based on this, an invite was sent to the commercial actors in Stockholm/Mälardalen, resulting in the participation of five different commercial actors in this investigation. Execution in the field was conducted over a six week period. During this time 26 CPTU were performed in total in a small area in Hagby, Stockholm, by these different actors. Once the data was collected from all of the actors, the results were evaluated with the aid of the computer softwares Conrad and Excel. The main conclusions from this study are: Not one of the performed CPTU in this master thesis fulfills the requirements for CPT class 1 according to the European standards. The quality of the education of operators should be improved and geotechnical engineers and the clients need to be more familiar with CPTU. The evaluated results from different commercial actors differ, and this can depend on the choice of equipment and performance of the operator during penetration, but it can also depend on systematic errors in the cone penetrometers / CPTU-sonderingar är en av de mest sofistikerade undersökningsmetoderna för geoteknisk analys och bedömning.

Shear Resistance Degradation of Lime –Cement Stabilized Soil During Cyclic Loading

Gebretsadik, Alex Gezahegn January 2014 (has links)
This thesis presents the results of a series of undrained cyclic triaxial tests carried out on four lime-cement stabilized specimens and clay specimen. The shear resistance degradation rate of lime-cement column subjected to cyclic loading simulated from heavy truck was investigated based on stress-controlled test. The influence of lime and cement on the degradation rate was investigated by comparing the behavior of stabilized kaolin and unstabilized kaolin with similar initial condition. The results indicate an increase in degree of degradation as the number of loading cycles and cyclic strain increase. It is observed that the degradation index has approximately a parabolic relationship with the number of cycles. Generally adding lime and cement to the clay will increase the degradation index which means lower degree of degradation. The degradation parameter, t has a hyperbolic relationship with shear strain, but it loses its hyperbolic shape as the soil getting stronger. On the other hand, for unstabilized clay an approximate linear relationship between degradation index and number of cycles was observed and the degradation parameter has a hyperbolic shape with the increase number of cycles. It was also observed that the stronger the material was, the lesser pore pressure developed in the lime-cement stabilized clay.
