Evaluación ambiental de distintas tecnologías de almacenamiento de energía

Fernández Sepúlveda, Maite Lourdes 09 1900 (has links)
Chile is a developing country that has energy policies committed to the environment, by 2035 it is expected that 60% of the energy produced in the country will be renewable and by 2050 it should be at least 70%. As some of the renewable energy systems have a variable output power, it is necessary to work with energy storage technologies to achieve an efficient integration to the electricity systems in Chile and be able to use all the energy produced. The objective of this work is to evaluate from an environmental point of view ten types of energy storage systems: by water pumping, by compressed air, kinesics storage, by hydrogen fuel cells, Power-to-Gas storage, of solar fuel, with Lead-acid batteries, with Lithium batteries, of Vanadium flow batteries and thermal storage with phase change materials, in order to deliver relevant inputs such as design and planning tools and have more sustainable systems with the environment and greater energy efficiency. To achieve the above, a review of the environmental literature and the literature of the energy storage systems was carried out, achieving a classification and characterization of the different technologies considering the type of storage they use. The materials required for its elaboration, processes, components and operational aspects were also considered, defining for the analysis as life cycle stages: raw materials, implementation, operation and end of its useful life. On the environmental axis, five aspects were considered: air, water, soil, flora and fauna, and people. This evaluates each stage of the life cycle of the energy storage systems in each environmental area. When analyzing the different technologies from the point of view of their life cycle stages we can appreciate that when they are raw materials those that have a higher level of impacts are the Pumped Hydroelectric storage and Lead-Acid batteries, the first due to the size of the system and the second by the level of toxicity of its components. At the time of implement the storage systems Lead-Acid batteries are still predominating with greater impact magnitudes. Then during the operation, the Pumped Hydroelectric storage has greater impacts. And at the end of its useful life Lead-Acid Batteries are still those that have a higher level of damage due to the level of toxicity of its components and that require careful handling during recycling. In general, throughout its life cycle, the systems with the highest degrees of negative environmental impacts were Lead-Acid batteries and Pumped Hydroelectric storage. The three systems that generate a lower number of impacts throughout their life cycle are Solar Fuel, Power-to-gas and hydrogen fuel cells.

The study investigates two positions that distort the interpretation of law in Brazil and proposes a solution to solve this problem. Identifies, in both, the decisionism founded on the will to power, breaking up normativity. The idea of the judiciary as a corporation dominates the Supreme Court and the National Council of Justice. They imports institutes that would be the common law. Except that out of context, under the guise of efficiency and in accordance with the will of the market. Are concealed exercise of will power for neglecting the specificity of the case and normativity. Dockets, binding or not, and pseudoprecedents would generate violence against the functional independence of the judges of low courts and against the litigants because the attribution of meaning doesn’t comes the case. In the basis of the judiciary, our study investigates the prevalence of uncritical and obedient to this “Brasilian’s common law”, expressed in dockets and abstract statements. It creates memes. However, our national government history was authoritative and the states interrupts the perception that there is an ontological difference between potestas and potentia – that one can not exist without the other, or without it becoming illegitimate power. Thus, on the basis, the decisionism phenomenon subsists as an extra practice in a learning by observation of summit - modeling, creating or sticking to ad-hoc principles and abstracts concepts. Both vertically (hierarchical - solipsism from supreme court to the basis) and horizontally (on the low courts), it breaks up the autonomy of law, whether in politics and in the economy. “Freedom of the interpreter” as a pretext for libertinism of rules. “Economic efficiency” as disabiliting rules. Erstwhile, speaking on behalf of the casts. Today, neoliberal economic discourse. The economy invades the law, this time in the form of Trojan horse: the Economic Analysis of Law. Replaces up normativity by merchandising utilitarianism. The inauthentic prejudice that sustain this double deformation of hermeneutic born from a operant conditioning (stimulus-reinforcement) of legal practitioners from college to professional activity, and reaching, in particular, its main destination: the judges. This discourse of power produces realities - epistemological ceilings that hide the fact that: a) there is only interpretation in this case because there are no concepts without facticity; b) does not fit the argument from authority beyond normativity; c) the importation of foreign theories must undergo a process of 13 reconciling with our legal, social, political and economic reality. From the ontological-linguistic turn, with the overcoming of the subject-object scheme of the philosophy of consciousness and consideration of the ontological difference (between Being and beings, and text and norm), there is the unveiling of interpretation as existential and the senses will not come from the autonomous subject of modernity, but under intersubjectivity, a truth that comes from the fusion of horizons within a tradition as well as the importance of integrity and coherence of the law. The constitutionally correct answer can not depend on awareness of the judge, the free conviction or from search of the “real truth”. Deciding is not choose, definitely.

Petipas, Floriane 17 May 2013 (has links) (PDF)

Sezónní akumulace využívající technologii power-to-gas / Seasonal accumulations using power-to-gas technology

Zavadil, Jan January 2020 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focusing on the seasonal energy storage in synthetic fuels and the Power to Gas system (P2G). The P2G enables the conversion of electrical energy in times of electricity surplus, for example by using the surplus from renewable energy sources to produce synthetic gas, particulary hydrogen and synthetic methane. The main focus is on the technical and economic assessment of P2G of the Gazela natural gas pipeline. Furthermore, it identifies the limits of production, transportation, and storage capacities of these synthetic gases. The technical analysis assumes the injection of hydrogen of a certain molar concentration, according to the four proposed scenarios, into the natural gas transmission system in the Gazela pipeline. The results have showen that an increase in the molar fraction of hydrogen in natural gas will cause problems in gas transport and will lead to an increase in the pressure losses, an increase in flow rate, and a decrease in the storage capacity of the pipeline. The economic analysis examines the use of P2G technology in Czech conditions. It demonstrates the amount of production costs for the production of 1 MWh of synthetic gas depending on the electricity price and the operating time of the production facility. The sensitivity analysis has shown that neither hydrogen nor synthetic methane is competitive next to cheap natural gas unless measures like an increased price of emission allowances or a carbon tax are taken.

CO2-Hydrierung zu CH4 an Fe-basierten Katalysatoren

Kirchner, Johann 02 June 2020 (has links)

Optimization of Distributed Cooling and Cold Storage in Sweden : Case Study - Norrenergi AB / Optimering av fjärrkyla och kyllager i Sverige: fallstudien Norrenergi AB

Yifru Woldemariam, Biramo January 2019 (has links)
District cooling supply is vital for service, commercial and industrial sectors like hospitals, data centers, supermarkets and sensitive laboratory facilities. The main cooling demand in the case of Sweden also originates from these sectors. The cooling demand in Stockholm is expanding mainly because of demand for comfort cooling, and data centers are rising. To cover the existing cooling demand and rising cooling demand, different cooling strategies have to be employed for optimal production of cold. This project concerns the optimization of such a district cooling system with primarily cold storage. This is achieved by choosing a case study network, namely considering the district cooling network of Norrenergi AB, in Sweden. Norrenergi AB is a company involved in supplying district cooling for cold consumers situated around Solna and Sundbyberg regions. The company provides around 70 GWh district cooling per year. The sources for the district cooling supply are free cooling, electrically driven chillers, and cold recovery from heat pumps. Besides these cold sources, currently, the parts of the peak cold demand are shaved using cold storage that is more cost-effectively charged during night-time, adopting the concept of power-to-cold. In running the district cooling system operation, Norrenergi AB’s current electricity mix is 100% renewable. In this thesis work, the existing district cooling network of Norrenergi AB is modeled using BoFiT optimization software (which is the base scenario), and then four future scenarios are developed, considering new, additional cold storages. The scenarios developed were meant to further optimize the existing district cooling grid to cater to the same existing total demand. This is assessed by integrating respective cold storages having larger (i.e., 15 MW capacity) or smaller (i.e., two cold storages each with 3 MW capacity) into the existing district cooling grid. The 15 MW capacity cold storage is integrated into Sundbybergsverket (Scenario 1) and in Frösundaverket (Scenario 2). While, from the smaller cold storages, the first one is integrated into the system in a manner that it supplies cooling for selected cooling customers, that is Scenario 3. The second small cold storage integrated in a way that supplies cooling to the entire grid, which is Scenario 4. Similar to the existing cold storage, in developed scenarios as well, the power-to-cold concept is utilized by charging the cold storage during the time in which the electricity price is lower (i.e., at night). The key outcome of this thesis work reveals that all the developed scenarios lead to cost savings in terms of the consumed electricity for producing DC. The achieved cost saving from each of the four scenarios developed are 23%, 4%, 13%, and 14%, respectively. Among all these scenarios, the first scenario has led to the largest cutback of DC production cost and impliesthat incorporating larger cold storages in cooling production plants results in higher savings. A performed sensitivity analysis also implies that increasing the supply capacity of free cooling results in production cost savings. Besides, an increased cooling capacity by 30% with respect to the base scenario results in a 10.6% cost saving. This saving infers that it is good to utilize free cooling as far as there is an opportunity to increase the use of free cooling.

Comparsion of Power-to-Methane Technology and Hythane as Heavy-Duty Vehicle-Fuels on Gotland

Wolving, Lova January 2024 (has links)
To reach the 1.5°C-goal of the Paris Agreement, all sectors have to be involved in the transition. The transport sector poses a considerable challenge regarding sustainable development and, within the sector, road transport contributes to the largest part of emissions in the EU. The development of fuels for heavy-duty vehicles is not as fast as for other types of vehicles. However, approaches combining biomethane and green hydrogen as alternative fuels have gained interest. There are plans to both expand the biogas sector and implementing hydrogen production on Gotland. Therefore, this study examines how two of these approaches, hythane and power-to-methane technology, compare to each other as HDV-fuels on Gotland. A simplified MCA has been conducted to compare the two alternative fuels’ performance against each other based on several criteria. The results show that hythane performed better than power-to-methane in the criteria categories technical performance and feasibility Gotland, while power-to-methane performed better regarding environmental impact. As hythane performed better in a larger number of criteria than biomethane produced through power-to-methane, the results of the study imply that, based on Gotland’s pre-conditions, hythane is preferable as HDV-fuel over using power-to-methane technology. However, prioritization of the criteria is not conducted and further research that includes weighing of the criteria, as well as examines the economic and social factors of the two systems, is required for a sufficient feasibility study.

CCS via Electrochemical CO2 Reduction to Ethylene-based Polymeric Construction Materials / CCS via elektrokemisk CO2-reduktion till etenbaserade polymera konstruktionsmaterial

Taylor, Christian January 2021 (has links)
The IPCC SR15 reported that all future scenarios to limit climate change to 1.5°C are heavily reliant on negative emission technologies, such as geographical CO2 storage employed by Stockholm Exergi’s Värtaverket. But can stronger climate benefits be achieved through a circular carbon economy? The formation of a carbon circular economy is imperative towards achieving global carbon neutrality, but how do we get there? Electrolysis of CO2 offers an economically and environmentally attractive route to upgrade CO2 emissions to valuable fuels and feedstocks, thus reducing the use of fossil resources and CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, hence closing the cycle. This thesis explores the possibility of removing the 720,000 tCO2 emissions of the case study waste-fired CHP plant, Stockholm Exergi’s Högdalenverket, via the electrochemical reduction of CO2 (eCO2RR) towards ethylene, with the goal of producing polymeric construction materials, to act as a carbon sink. These polymers were evaluated on criteria such as, capacity as a carbon sink, market size and LCA. Ethylene is the prevailing commodity chemical for polymer production and has a significant carbon footprint of 1.73 tonCO2 per tonne of ethylene produced. Displacement via the eCO2RR would prevent substantial CO2 emissions and bridge the gap between fossil and renewable resources. This thesis describes a preliminary process design, complete with technoeconomic model to calculate the economics, mass and energy balances of numerous scenarios. Electrocatalyst data from an in-depth literature review comprising of over 100 catalysts was drawn, with 5 electrocatalyst candidates selected based on strengths in particular figures of merit, to determine performance targets for profitability. The technoeconomic model concluded that at the current price point of 700 SEK/MWh, none of the electrocatalysts could achieve profitability. Lowering the electricity price to the levelized-cost of electricity (LCOE) for wind, 335 SEK/MWh, yielded highly profitable results, including IRR up-to 41.3%. Model parameters were changed to determine the most important variables in an extensive sensitivity analysis. Concluding that performance targets require current densities of 400-600 mA/cm2 whilst maintaining as low cell voltage as possible (<2.4 V). When specifically targeting ethylene, it is beneficial to increase profitability through targeting more valuable, formic, or acetic acid, which has the advantage of easier liquid-gas separation and to avoid production of methane and ethanol. For stability, 2-4 years minimum is required for the catalyst-coated membrane (CCM), 10 years for the stack and 20 years for the electrolyser systems. In the environmental analysis, capabilities for carbon storage were studied via CO2 balance. This was achieved by taking the direct emissions removed from Högdalenverket, the indirect emissions prevented by replacing conventional processes and by the carbon intensity of the electricity source. Based on the average energy efficiency and performance of the electrocatalysts, the host country would require a carbon intensity of electricity production below 101 and 153 tCO₂/GWh for NET direct and indirect CO2 removal, respectively. Consequently, higher CO2 savings were achieved by trading low-carbon Swedish electricity to neighbouring countries with much higher carbon intensities. Overall, the direct carbon reduction was between 487,300 to 575,000 tCO₂ and indirect reduction of between 1,065,000 to 1,219,000 tCO₂, subject to energy efficiency and targeted products. It remains that aside from the technical performance aspects of the eCO2RR catalysts, the major roadblock towards the commercial success of all eCO2RR projects is the required adjustments to regulatory framework, such that electricity for electrolysis projects towards green chemicals exempt from taxes in a similar way to renewable biomass combustion exempt from CO2 taxes.
