This qualitative descriptive study described the prodromal symptoms of older individuals, age 65 and above, experiencing acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Review of the literature establishes that older adults experiencing precursor symptoms of ACS are a high-risk group, one that experiences disparities in hospital emergency departments (EDs) and decreased ACS survival. Identification of early symptoms predictive of ACS may influence a patient's willingness to seek medical treatment and necessitate early, accurate diagnosis and treatment. The purpose of this study was to describe older individual's prodromal symptoms patterns and symptom experiences including perceptions, interpretations, and treatment seeking decisions. This study compared and contrasted symptom patterns of ACS among groups of older adult participants, age 65+ based upon age, gender, and other demographic characteristics (previous myocardial infarction, race, ethnicity, regular exercise, insurance, and comorbidity). Three specific aims were addressed in this study. Specific Aim 1 Explore the prodromal symptom patterns as perceived by the older individual encountering ACS. Specific Aim 2 Explore the older individual's interpretation of the prodromal symptom patterns encountering ACS. Specific Aim 3 Explore the treatment decision making processes used by older individuals when experiencing and interpreting prodromal symptom patterns in ACS. Participants included patients newly diagnosed with ACS and ≥ 65 years of age. For the qualitative description, participants (n=20) were recruited and a chart audit was conducted. Demographic information and data were obtained from the admitting ED history and physical, and discharge summary. Additionally, face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted with each participant. Content and matrix analyses were used to address the study aims. Research findings from this study elucidated early symptom indicators of myocardial ischemia/infarction (MI), which may be used for screening or developing ACS assessment guidelines specific to geriatric patients.

The segment of the population that is 65 years and older is undergoing rapid growth. With this growth, there is an increased need for speech-language pathologists (SLPs) to treat cognitive-communicative disorders, most of which are age-related disorders secondary to neurologic disease. To do this effectively, SLPs require an understanding of how healthy aging affects cognition, memory and sensory processing. Although the interactions between sensory and cognitive processing are increasingly being investigated, little attention has been paid to the relationship between modality of information presentation and language comprehension in aging. Language comprehension is affected by component processes such as memory span and processing abilities, but to date there has been no systematic investigation of the effect of presentation modality on the processing of linguistic information across a number of tasks ranging in complexity.The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of presentation modality on language processing. The secondary purposes of the study were to determine whether age affected performance on language processing measures, and whether adults can accurately predict if their performance was better in either the auditory or visual presentation condition. The effects of presentation modality were evaluated on four dependent measures: a digit span task, a word span task, a complex span task and a procedural instruction processing task. The participants were 37 older adults and 41 younger adults, matched for years of education and estimated verbal IQ.Three notable findings emerged from the study. First, both young and older adults recalled more information when it was presented in the auditory modality, regardless of the task. Second, age effects were present on all measures. Third, individuals were generally inaccurate in predicting which modality would result in better processing. Implications for the evaluation and treatment of older adults are discussed.

The creative project by the means of formed symbols and codes conveys the consumer the information about the past, history and traditions at the contemporary qualitative level of designed creative works. The project consists of four calendars which suit the tastes of different consumers.

Author: Jonathan Wanér Hedberg Title: Angående Individualismen – Facebook: Individualistens Kollektiv Year: 2014/2015 Abstract: This essay seeks to understand how the expression of individualism can be seen in different ways in people’s use of the social network Facebook. Ten interviews with Facebook users have been performed. The analysis of these has been able to illustrate how Facebook users through Erving Goffman´s impression management prepares and presents their individualism to a collective, i. e. the users Facebook friends. The Informants' had a common view of how social ideals are published on Facebook by the users. The informants' description of ideals was in terms of individualistic performances; such as their own physical workout, bread making, or similar self-performed activities. Analysis also demonstrates that the Facebook feature the “like button” can be used as the collective confirmation of the Facebook users presented individualism. This essay is also an attempt to explain how Facebook users enters their own individualized time zones on Facebook; being able to control the lives of friends on Facebook via a time that suits the users themselves; i. e. their own individualized time. Finally this essay tries to argue how people use Facebook to identify specific material, published by friends, which they use as a reflexivity of the self, as Anthony Giddens calls it. The informants describe how they use material, published by others, on Facebook to reflect on their own lives and identities; sometimes this resulted in a related action by those who performed the reflection.
