Fri vilja eller tradition? : Prästrespektive i den prästerliga kulturenSivhed, Elna January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to investigate, using data from the sacerdotal culture, t h espouses of five priests. The main questions were: How does the priestly calling affect thespouse? Do the spouses involve themselves with voluntary work? Do the spouses feel thecongregation have expectations? Do the female and male answers differ? The sacerdotal culture has consisted of several elements. The main element is the priest’scalling for his work. As far as the spouse is concerned within the congregation, the spouseshave been seen as necessary for voluntary work. The congregation has also expected thespouse to act in a certain way and to undertake certain tasks. How the five informants feel about and react to the sacerdotal culture is focus for this study. The study shows that the sacerdotal culture is still strong today and it is something that thespouses take into account. They can choose not to participate but that might involve, forinstance, having to live somewhere else. The study found that the calling affects the femaleinformants, but not so much the males. The amount of participation varies from spouse tospouse and is a matter of their own choice. Expectations can also vary and participation inthe congregation can create higher expectations.

Religious Confession Privilege at Common Law: A Historical Analysisthompsonak@ldschurch.org, Anthony Keith Thompson January 2006 (has links)
Since English lawyers started writing text books about the law of evidence, they have denied that religious confession privilege exists at common law. However, that statement of the law surprises those who recognise confessional secrecy dating back into the first millennium AD. It is also counter-intuitive in Federal Australia since the one human freedom which the Constitution has guaranteed since 1901 is the free exercise of any religion.
This thesis analyses the legal conclusion that there is no religious confession privilege at common law against available historical materials. Those materials include the origin of confessional secrecy in Christian practice and the entrenchment of that practice in canon law; the recognition and even the reception of canonical practices in the custom that became the common law; and all the English common law cases that have affirmed or denied religious confession privilege whether in passing or in an arguably precedential way. The reason why clear evidence of the existence of the privilege even seventy years after the English Reformation has been ignored by the text writers is traced to an uncorrected interpretive error made by the text writer Peake in 1801. His error has been uncritically followed and affirmed by later commentators and judges. However, until Gavan Duffy J decided Cook v Carroll in Ireland in 1945 and the Supreme Court of Canada decided R v Gruenke in 1991, there was no reported decision on religious confession privilege anywhere in the British Commonwealth. All else that had been written was at best obiter dicta.
The factors that influenced those two courts to recognise not a narrow religious confession privilege but a more encompassing confidential religious communications privilege are then measured against Australian jurisprudence to suggest whether the High Court of Australia would come to a similar conclusion.

This thesis explores the metafictional dimension of British novelist Christopher Priest’s 1981 novel The Affirmation [La fontaine pétrifiante]. Making use of theories and ideas from the works of Bougnoux, Dällenbach, Klein, Paterson, Ricardou, and Saint-Gelais, this study shows how metafictional devices, in spite of their destabilizing potential, are gradually incorporated by the diegetic universe deployed in the novel. This study relies on a specific analytic reading that attributes motivations to the reflexive mecanisms found in Priest’s science-fiction novel. For instance, experimental devices such as the constant questioning of narrative authority, the multiplication of embedded plots and storylines, the transit, the frequent use of metalepsis and telescoping, seem all to serve the purpose of the story, therefore preserving the effect of realist representation or, at least, not disrupting it.

Feministická sci-fi literatura: Mechanické století Cherie Priest / Feminist Science Fiction: Cherie Priest's The Clockwork CenturyNováková, Petra January 2018 (has links)
Feminist Science Fiction: Cherie Priest's The Clockwork Century Diploma Thesis Petra Nováková Abstract Marleen S. Barr, one of the pioneers of feminist science fiction criticism, is an outspoken commentator on gender inequality in this genre. In Feminist Fabulation: Space/Postmodern Fiction and Future Females: A Critical Anthology, Barr defines feminist science fiction as metafiction about patriarchal fiction. She speaks out against both authors and critics who recycle narratives restricted by a patriarchal view of the world in which women are silenced and/or relegated to the position of an accessory of the male hero, made to behave in a stereotypically feminine manner. While Barr does not include steampunk fiction but focuses on science fiction oriented towards the future and space exploration, her analysis of the female character's plight is nonetheless applicable to the steampunk genre. In this respect, feminist steampunk fiction can be read as a meditation on established gender norms. Cherie Priest's work is a prime example of such an innovative re-examination of gender stereotypes that Barr calls for in her critical work. As both a woman and a writer of science fiction, the author has adopted a feminist approach in her steampunk series The Clockwork Century. Among other things, Priest examines the role...

Towards the development of 'priest researchers' in the Church of EnglandBarley, Lynda January 2014 (has links)
The Church of England is living through a time of significant change in attitudes towards local church ministry, congregational participation and pastoral practices. As it seeks to respond with integrity to changes in contemporary society the Church’s dialogue with empirical social research is beginning to develop more fully. This thesis focuses on a pioneer national project to explore the effectiveness of pastoral ministry in contemporary church weddings. The social science research methods used in this project revealed insights into the ministry of contemporary church weddings with the intention of shaping responsive parochial wedding policies. This thesis considers the potential for further local enquiry by individual marrying clergy to understand the ordinary theology (proposed by Astley) of their communities using methods of ordinary research alongside a shared reflective practice. It highlights the socio-theological interface within reflective empirical theology by pastoral practitioners in the Church. A model of participatory action research incorporating online clergy forums and change agent groups is explored to stimulate parochial and institutional change among clergy in partnership with each other. The role of priest researchers is proposed and identified in other pastoral contexts to examine factors that motivate clergy to participate in the development of pastorally responsive national policies. A methodology of personal diaries, focus groups and one to one interviews is used to explore the responses of clergy to participating in reflective praxis. The findings point to key factors in developing pastoral practice and policies involving the place of ministerial development and attitudes towards collaborative working. A typology of pastoral ministry is developed towards identifying priest researchers in the Church. The research affirms the contribution of pastoral practitioners towards the development of pastorally responsive national policies but the nature of parochial deployment and clergy relationships with each other and the Church institutions frequently preclude much of this contribution.

[en] THE REVOLT OF CORE, DATHAN AND ABIRAM (NM 16-17): STYLISTIC-NARRATIVE ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION / [pt] A REVOLTA DE CORÉ, DATÃ E ABIRAM (NM 16-17): ANÁLISE ESTILÍSTICO-NARRATIVA E INTERPRETAÇÃOVICENTE ARTUSO 09 May 2007 (has links)
As interpolações e glosas,
personagens, a presença
dos conflitos (Nm 16,1-3), com um desenvolvimento (Nm 16,5-
11), dramatização
(Nm 16,12-15) e auge dos conflitos (Nm 16,19). Essa
dramatização (Nm 16,19b-
24. 25-30) e desfecho com aniquilação dos revoltosos (Nm
16,31-35), caracteriza
A intenção do autor
final é defender a
estavam no poder, justamente
porque sua conclusão (Nm 17,16-28) visa à confirmação
divina do eleito Aarão
[en] The text of Nm 16-17 relates the revolt of different
groups against the
authority of Moses and Aaron. Its composition is complex,
and at least three
hands contributed to its elaboration. The interpolations
and glosses, according to
critics, signal frustrated attempts at harmonization, with
the aim of uniting the
story of the revolt of Dathan and Abiram with the story of
the revolt of Core and
the two hundred and fifty leaders. Faced with news
studies, more interested in
style, research has treated the text in its final form as
a plot constructed and
articulated around conflict of authority. The dramatic
construction of Nm 16-17
contains a clear beginning with the presentation of
personalities, the presence of
conflicts (Nm 16,1-3), development (Nm 16,5-11),
dramatization (Nm 16,12-15)
and a high point of conflict (Nm 16,19). This
dramatization (Nm 16,19b-24; 25-
30) and the ending, with the liquidation of the rebels (Nm
16,31-35), characterize
the text as a literary unit with stylistic elements and
peculiar narratives. The plot
ends with the wiping out of the guilty. However this does
not yet mean the end of
the conflicts. They reappear in the second story of revolt
which involved the
people as a whole (Nm 17, 6 -15).The intention of the
final author is to defend the
Jewish identity of the people, by means of the priestly
class, which had assumed
leadership after the Exile. This story, emphasising the
liquidation of those who
rebelled against authority, was therefore written from the
viewpoint of those who
were in power, exactly because its conclusion (Nm 17,16-
28) aims to show the
divine confirmation of the Elected One, Aaron, as High
Priest. Emphasising the
defeat of the rebels, the author also wishes to present an
archetypical story of
rebellion, with the aim of confronting or threatening all
those who would dare
rebel against the authorities constituted as such by God
himself.
