Les chantiers d’églises paroissiales à Paris aux XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles / Building parish churches in Paris at the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuriesLosserand, Léonore 18 March 2017 (has links)
Paris under the first Bourbons is a flourishing time for religious building, amongt which parish churches form a category of their own. As worships related to a urban territory, parish churches are funded and built by many-faceted clients, with sometimes conflicting interests : marguilliers, priests, parishioners. Held by financial constraints specific to their case, projects for these churches needed to adjust to the accounts of factories and to the day-to-day activity of parishioners, for decades. Projects of buildfing or total rebuilding are the subject of this study : Saint-Jacques-du-Haut-Pas (1630 – c.1690), Saint-Sulpice (1646 –c.1791), Saint-Roch (1633 and 1653 – 1740), Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet (1656 – c.1720), Saint-Louis-en-l’Île (1656 – vers 1735), and Sainte-Marguerite (from 1624). Establishing the project, whether it is global or partial, sometimes precede the start of the construction by far, and the church’s consecration does not always mean that the shell has been finished. From the project until the final adjunctions (façade, chapel, etc.) through the digging of foundations or discontinuations of work, the process of parish building reveals a permanent aspect, on perpetual renewal. However, these churches are built with techniques and materials of common use at the time in the Parisian basin, by a great number of craftmen, although not well documented.Through the restitution of the different stemps of the project, a face is given to history of modern construction.

Stephen Dedalus' Search for Identity in Catholic IrelandCuevas, Cristina L 26 October 2015 (has links)
The purpose of my research was to explore the interplay between religion and art in James Joyce’s novel, A PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG MAN. My aim was to trace the development of the protagonist, Stephen Dedalus by analyzing how Catholicsim is an institution that forms him, yet must reject to realize his artistic potential. I researched Joyce’s background to gain an understanding of the exilic experience on the literature. Through the exilic lens, I realized that Catholicism was the predominant influence on Stephen’s need to embark on a self-imposed exile at the end of the novel. Complicating his decision is the fact that he does not stop believing in religious constructs such as heaven and hell. In conclusion I found by following his artistic longing, and turning away from the church he is committing a sin and, as a result, damning his soul.

Trust me, I'm a Priest! : Justifying Epistemic Trust in Religious AuthoritiesEdfors, Evelina January 2020 (has links)
In this thesis I argue that epistemic trust in religious authorities is different from epistemic trust in other kinds of authorities because God disturbs the two-party relationship between trustee and truster. I reach this conclusion by first examining the nature of epistemic trust in authorities and how it is justifiable to practice this kind of trust. I then compare these findings to the nature of epistemic trust in religious authorities and see that the general justification for epistemic trust in authorities is not sufficient, instead, God’s relationship with the trusting party, the layperson, needs to be taken into consideration in order to justify epistemic trust in religious authorities.

Georges Lemaître - mimořádná osobnost vědy 20. století / Georges Lemaître - mimořádná osobnost vědy 20. stoletíRejman, Daniel January 2015 (has links)
Georges Lemaître is quite unknown in Czech society. Although he was one of the scientists who independently anticipated the expansion of the cosmos and later formulated one of the most important hypotheses of the twentieth century - the hypothesis of the Primavel Atom, generally known as the Big Bang Theory as well as he was the president of The Pontifical Academy of Sciences, there has been published almost nothing about him in the Czech Republic. What was Lemaître's life like? What does his hypothesis mean in the context of Christian astronomical discourse of last centuries? How was his mission of the priest linked with work in astrophysics and mathematics?

Josef Konstantin Miklík CSsR (1895-1966): život a dílo / Josef Konstantin Miklík CSsR (1895-1966): His Life and WorkMachek, Vít January 2017 (has links)
Annotation: The theme of this diploma thesis is a reliable differentiation of the life and works of two members of the Congregation of Most Holy Redeemer (the Redemptorists): Josef Miklík CSsR (1886-1947) and Josef Konstantin Miklík CSsR (1895-1966). In the first half of the 20th century they were both important personalities of the Czech province of this order, but their lives and works are often confused with one another. The aim of this thesis is an elaboration of the life of Josef Konstantin Miklík on the basis of available resources. The years of his studies and of his religious formation will be described with special carefulness. Another stress will be put on the period when he was publishing his manifold works. Main topics of his academic interest will be also presented.
