Criteria for selecting project priorityEngelbrecht, Nicole 06 June 2012 (has links)
M.Ing. / A company can execute a number of different projects. Some of these projects will increase production volumes, plant efficiency or plant productivity. Others may only be projects that are executed in order to conform to legislation requirements. As such projects can broadly be placed in the following categories: • Compliance • Emergency • Operational • Strategic and • Sustainability A project needs to go through a number of steps before it is decided to finally execute the project. The first step is to place the project in the correct category. The second step is to screen the project on a high level to ensure that it meets all of the required criteria. The third phase would be to prioritise the projects. The final step would then be to decide which projects to execute. This type of staged approach determines which projects to complete and ensures that resources are not wasted unnecessarily on projects that should not be executed and that do not meet the minimum criteria.

Hur projektstyrningsmodeller påverkas av kontextuella och kulturella faktorer inom IT. : En studie om överföring. / How project management models are affected by contextual and cultural factors in IT. : A study of transference.Lovering, Philip, Hörmann Berggren, Mattias January 2015 (has links)

The development of an assessment tool for measuring project management culture in organisationsDu Plessis, Yvonne 09 June 2004 (has links)
The principles and practices of project management are increasingly adopted by organisations (technical and non-technical) that hope to reap its multiple benefits, particularly 'the opportunity to be both externally effective (fast to market) and internally efficient (doing more, faster, with less)' (Pinto, 2002). Organisations may not be as successful as they anticipated when they opted to engage in project management, because their organisational culture does not support project work. The primary objective of this research was ‘to develop a reliable holistic diagnostic assessment tool to measure project management culture, as an operational culture, in organisations’. This research made use of multi-methods (triangulation) including: • a thorough literature study; • verification of the theoretical model of du Plessis (2001) by project management experts using Lawshe’s (1975) technique; • the development of a scale instrument (project management culture assessment tool) by using DeVellis’s (1991) process supported by Clark and Watson’s (1995); and • a reliability test of the developed project management culture assessment tool (PMCAT), by using the Mann-Whitney t-test, in two independent organisations. The results indicated that 94% of the project management experts who responded perceived the model and descriptive elements on project management culture by Du Plessis (2001) as valid. A questionnaire with 135 variables derived from the validated model and descriptive elements was subjected to 494 project managers of whom 236 responded. This data was the input to the development of the scale instrument, using statistical techniques such as item analysis (SAS, 1997) and exploratory factor analysis (BMDP, 1993). The outcome was a project management culture assessment tool (PMCAT) that comprised of 89 items in a five-factor scale instrument. The overall reliability of the items in this scale was highly acceptable with a Cronbach alpha coefficient above 0.70. The scale inter-correlation showed that the factors are highly inter-correlated which can be expected from an interdisciplinary, holistic construct of factors that are systemic in nature. The PMCAT was tested in two independent organisations and was found to be a reliable diagnostic tool that can distinguish between organisations' project management culture, especially in the South African project management environment. / Thesis (PhD (Organizational Behaviour))--University of Pretoria, 2005. / Human Resource Management / unrestricted

Project Management Practices in Small Projects: 5 cases in a Canadian Hospital SettingJasinska, Monika January 2017 (has links)
Healthcare is continuously changing through means of project work. Small projects in healthcare settings are of particular interest since they are usually not adequately supported by the health institution, and present many challenges of their own. However, collective successful completion of small projects has the potential to significantly impact and improve health service delivery. This thesis examined the common and successful project management practices in small projects in Canadian hospital settings to acquire new knowledge on this understudied kind of project and propose basic project management practice guidelines for future small projects conducted within these settings. Data collection was conducted in two hospitals in the form of 23 semi-structured interviews with five interprofessional project teams composed of 4-10 healthcare professionals. Each project was considered as the unit of analysis. Qualitative within-case and cross-case inferential processes were applied and a consolidated list of 43 project management practices deemed important by the majority of participants from all cases was revealed and could serve as basic project management practice guidelines for future small projects conducted in hospitals. Findings also shed light on the beneficial value of adapting principles of project management to small projects in hospital settings. Given the bottom-up nature of small projects, results suggest it is of significant importance to clearly define and understand the small project, as well as perform a thorough stakeholder analysis to be able to gain the right approvals. Insufficient time dedicated to small project management governed these shortcomings, thus team members need to regularly allot time to managing their small project. Lastly, the presence of a team leader was a significant factor influencing continuous project execution. Future studies should take into consideration allied disciplines’ contributions such as organizational behaviour to help explain the interplay between group dynamics and small project outcome.

Nástroje pro projektové řízení v kontextu projektového prostředí organizace. / Software for project management in conditions of organization's project managementBaránek, Aleš January 2009 (has links)
Final thesis deals with functions and usage of software for project management in the specific conditions of project management background of organization. Introduction into project management software presents it's characteristics, usage and roles when providing support of project management activities and procedures. Models of organization's project management are defined by investigation of usage of software for project management in the specific conditions of organization. Based on detailed analysis of software functions we define functional spectra, which specify importance of functional areas of software for every model of organization's project management. Such concept of functinal spectra can be used when evaluating suitability of using existing software for project management in terms and conditions of concrete organization. Last chapter of the thesis gives example of usage of functional spectra concept for selection of the software which fits the best to the project management background of the company.

An investigation into the effects of project management on a rural poverty alleviation project : the case of the Walda small scale sugar cane farming co-operativeMhlongo, Mpumelelo Cidrick January 2016 (has links)
Thesis (M. Dev.) -- University of Limpopo, 2016. / The management of projects has gained an increasing impetus amongst
researchers throughout the world in the last decade. Most of the research
projects have focused on which extent can lack of resources affect the
implementation of projects in developing countries. Little has been said about the
relationship between lack of corporate governance and the management of
projects for small scale sugar cane farmers. In this study, the researcher focused
on the effects of project management on poverty alleviation and sustainable
livelihoods. The study used a mixed method research design which equally
employed case study and descriptive approaches. From the quantitative
perspective, structured questionnaires were administered, while in the qualitative
approach semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data. Results
indicated that the success of projects aimed at poverty alleviation and
sustainable livelihoods is dependent on the successful implementation of project
management skills. The research amongst others recommend that training and
financial support be prioritised for the community projects to achieve their
intended objectives.
