Este trabalho é resultado de uma pesquisa para obtenção do grau de mestre através do programa de pós-graduação em design da UFPE / Project Management has been affirming itself as a factor of great relevance in the present time for the development of Projects. According to Mansur (2009), the rate of succeed projects in Brazil has been increasing due to the success of the project management initiatives and techniques. On the other hand, managing intensive design projects is not a simple task because, in addition to the common needs to any project, design intensive projects always deal with the development of a new artifact, and for this creative characteristic, they require a lot of attention to special conditions. To facilitate this task there are numerous methodological support tools developed by authors and scholars from administration, engineering and technology areas. However, the records of these tools are scattered, difficult to be used by the designer who do not find simple descriptions or a catalog that classifies tools and facilitate their access and knowledge. In this context, this research is the result of exploration of project management tools applied to design projects. From the studies on project management and some methodologies such as Pmbok, IPMA, Scrum, Kanban and Extreme Programming, reflected on the peculiarities of design project. It was possible to create a classification and presentation model with a sample of 38 management tools in a simple and self-explanatory format applied on design intensive projects examples. For this, qualitative tests were carried out with a group of eight designers, where they could test hypothetical classification proposals and help in the adjustments of these proposals and thus in the construction of the model. This work is the result of a research to obtain the master's degree in design at UFPE.

An Examination of the Effect of Decision Style on the Use of a Computerized Project Management Tool

Fox, Terry L., 1963- 08 1900 (has links)
Managing a software development project presents many difficulties. Most software development projects are considered less than successful, and many are simply canceled. Ineffective project management has been cited as a major factor contributing to these failures. Project management tools can greatly assist managers in tracking and controlling their projects. However, project management tools are very structured and analytical in nature, which is not necessarily supported by decision-making styles of the managers. This research examined the influence that decision style has on a project manager's use of a project management tool.

Can a technological tool resolve issues in project management? : A case study for an IT projects consulting firm.

Snäll, Josephine January 2021 (has links)
IT projects are complex and often numerous challenges arise during the projects’ execution. The ten knowledge areas designed to support projects management more often challenge include the project management team to deliver the outcome on time. The present study tries to answer the question of whether the use of a technological management tool in project management can help to solve most problematic knowledge areas, and to meet the delivery deadlines. The author runs a case study at an IT consulting firm. The purpose for the study is to investigate if technologies can help to resolve these issues, and to recommend a project management tool for more efficient delivery time. In a two phased study, first, the author identifies the project management knowledge areas that may have impacted IT project delivery delays, and second, the author investigates if using a project management tool can solve the delivery time issue. Results from the first phase show that delivery issues emerged at different levels, namely: stakeholders, resources, scope, quality, and integration management.  To investigate if a management tool could help to overcome the delays in delivery, a selection of technological tools was made. Based on the results from the first phase so the technological tool integrates functions and features for stakeholders, resources, scope quality, and integration management. The interviewees then ranked three technological tools and shared opinions on possible adoption of any of these tools. Final analysis show that interviewees think that proposed technological tools can resolve some of the issues experienced in the projects: mainly, the transition between departments, resource allocation, to visualise the quality management, plan for communication with stakeholders, and clearer handling of the project’s requirements. In the final results from the second interview, the tool that can help to solve issues with the five most problematic knowledge areas, and thus the delivery delays issue, for the case company is Genius Project.

Att lära en man att fiska : En kartläggning av hjälporganisationers projektstruktur / Teach a man to fish : A survey of Non-profit organizations' project structure

Kvist, Erica, Johansson, Eva January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to conduct a survey of two projects within two Non-profit organizations: Xola Educare in Contribution To Opportunities and Digniti Omnia in The Church of Sweden. The study intends to investigate how the projects deal with the five selected areas of knowledge: project goals, stakeholders, requirements, timetable and communication. The essay originates from the research question of: How are knowledge areas applied to structuring projects in Non-profit organizations? Our starting point for this study is that there are differences in how newly established and already established Non-profit organizations will apply knowledge areas for the planning of their projects. The study also assumes that practice differs from how the essay's theory describes knowledge areas. The study has been conducted with a qualitative method, with interviews and document analysis as a method of data collection for the purpose of mapping the current structure of the projects based on knowledge areas in relation to the theory. Previous research on projects driven by Non-profit organizations has illustrated a trend of inefficiency and unsuccessful projects rather than successful. The project managers' skills and maturity are revealed to play a key part for their success. Knowledge areas have been used to a certain extent but still have a great development potential and need to be adapted to the context of Non-profit organizations.  The survey shows that newly established Non-profit organizations do not use as many project knowledge areas as a more established Non-profit organization does, and that theory and practice differ in these two Non-profit organizations. The survey also shows that reality differs from the theory through shortcomings in structured methodological approaches. Reality does not always match the theory when individuals and projects are changing; they need to follow one another and its context. The survey and the results of the study show that both projects have formulated project goals in document form. The project has not conducted any stakeholder analysis according to the essay theory but has a high level of awareness about its stakeholders. The requirements that the projects aim to meet were formulated at the start of the project. The projects have no structured time plan containing the theoretical project management techniques. Both the projects have structured forms of meeting according to the theory.

En undersökning av digitala projektstyrningsverktyg : En fallstudie utförd på en kommunikationsbyrå i Visby / A survey of digital project management tools

Alho, Charlotta, Pettersson, Alice January 2023 (has links)
The study has been conducted on a communication agency called Outhousebyrån. The study examines the organization’s approach to project management and explores opportunities for enhancing efficiency. The study has also investigated how a new digital project management tool affects Outhousebyråns project management. Outhousebyrån faces difficulties structuring, planning and communicating during projects. The study has chosen to examine two digital project management tools, Trello and Monday. These have been tested on Outhousebyråns ongoing projects based on their needs and preferences. The purpose of the study is to present a digital project management tool to help Outhousebyrån structure and make their projects more effective. The study conducted is a qualitative case study where the data was collected using three methods, semi-structured interviews, observations, and sent-out questionnaires. The collected data has been analyzed based on theories that originates from Total Quality Management (TQM) and project management. Based on the analyzed result it was concluded that Outhousebyrån needed a digital project management tool, that would help them structure their projects. The study has compiled a list of the employees preferences regarding functions in a updated digital project management tool. The result showed that both tools fulfilled most of the expectations collected from the data. Since both tools could be implemented, the choice between the two was based on Mondays wider selection of functions and Outhousebyråns personal preferences. The result showed that Monday was more suitable for the organization. Finally, a proposal was presented on how Monday could be implemented for Outhousebyråns project management.
