Web analytics enhancing Project Planning: the case of Digital Marketing campaigns : Qualitative study of structured Web analytics data in Project Management

Ornato, Cristina, Orynbayeva, Dana January 2018 (has links)
Due to the increasing relevance conferred to a digital based approach to sales, moreorganizations are looking for a profitable way to exploit the value of the information they are able to collect during Digital Marketing campaign projects. These data are called Web analytics and are generated at the passage of the user on the Web page. Despite the value entailed by this information, previous academic literature points out the lack of a structured approach to Web analytics and rarely the subject was observed in connection with Project Management. The purpose of our study is therefore to bridge the existinggap, by aiming to assess how a structured approach to Web analytics could enhance the planning phase of a project. The focus on the planning phase is due to the critical relevance attributedto it. About this, researchers want to answer the following research question:Project planning in digital marketing campaigns: which is the role of a structured use of Web analytics?Given the exploratory nature of the study, guided by a positivist stand point and considered time and space constraints, a qualitative approach to the research was selected as the most suitable. The literature reviewperformed in the secondchapter allowed the authors to drawa conceptual framework, showing the connections between the research areas involved. At the end of the chapter a model of use of Web analytics, built from previous researchers, is presented. This last one lacks of an explicit connection with thesubject of Project Management, which we will develop along the thesis work. Empirical data was gathered through semi-structured interviews that involved with managers from a digital marketing company and consultants dealingwith Web analytics, working in two different companies.Research findings indicate therole of Web analytics to beextremely important while planning a Digital Marketing campaign project, but also revealed their use and relevance along other project phases. Also, the role of Web analytics historical data emerged during the interview process and is widely commented in the conclusive chapters.Interviewees provided coherent answers that we grouped in four main clusters and analyzed: structured use of Web analytics, project phases in marketing campaigns, use of Web analytics in the planning phase of a project and contextualization. Results reveal interesting implications both at a managerial level and for future academic research. Indeed, a new model that connects a structured use of Web analytics with the planning phase of a project is presented, including the role of historicaldata. Suggestions are provided to managers in terms of possible investments, while in case of academics we recommended other ways to test the validity of the study.

Project Management Practices in Small Projects: 5 cases in a Canadian Hospital Setting

Jasinska, Monika January 2017 (has links)
Healthcare is continuously changing through means of project work. Small projects in healthcare settings are of particular interest since they are usually not adequately supported by the health institution, and present many challenges of their own. However, collective successful completion of small projects has the potential to significantly impact and improve health service delivery. This thesis examined the common and successful project management practices in small projects in Canadian hospital settings to acquire new knowledge on this understudied kind of project and propose basic project management practice guidelines for future small projects conducted within these settings. Data collection was conducted in two hospitals in the form of 23 semi-structured interviews with five interprofessional project teams composed of 4-10 healthcare professionals. Each project was considered as the unit of analysis. Qualitative within-case and cross-case inferential processes were applied and a consolidated list of 43 project management practices deemed important by the majority of participants from all cases was revealed and could serve as basic project management practice guidelines for future small projects conducted in hospitals. Findings also shed light on the beneficial value of adapting principles of project management to small projects in hospital settings. Given the bottom-up nature of small projects, results suggest it is of significant importance to clearly define and understand the small project, as well as perform a thorough stakeholder analysis to be able to gain the right approvals. Insufficient time dedicated to small project management governed these shortcomings, thus team members need to regularly allot time to managing their small project. Lastly, the presence of a team leader was a significant factor influencing continuous project execution. Future studies should take into consideration allied disciplines’ contributions such as organizational behaviour to help explain the interplay between group dynamics and small project outcome.

Plánování a analýza velkých projektů za pevnou cenu / Large fixed price projects planning and analysis

Král, Miroslav January 2009 (has links)
A large number of different methods in the field of estimation of IS/IT projects have been developed in past years. Those methods should be used with regard to several factors. The choice and the application of an estimation method should take into consideration the current phase of each project and the wide variety of external factors, whose composition and intensity are very diverse and individual. The accuracy of the estimation considerably influences the success of the whole project. Therefore it is crucial to pay special attention to the mentioned phenomenon. The aim of this diploma thesis is to provide a comprehensive overview of the issue of the estimation of large projects for fixed price. The objective is particularly fulfilled by the provided overview and definitions of the chosen methods, the list of the most common mistakes and the interpretation of the results of an analysis concerning the portfolio of projects that were realised in an international company. The expected outcome of the diploma thesis is represented by the definition of the procedurally correct and comprehensive description of the creation of the price for a project with the fixed extent of work, which can be guaranteed with a reasonable rate of risk by a supplier. Another outcome of the thesis is the interpreted outputs of the analysis concerning the portfolio of projects realised by the international supplier of IS/IT products and services, which can be exploited for more effective estimations and project portfolio management.

Parameterstyrd projektering : En studie av parameterstyrd projektering utav en fackverkskomponent / Parameterdriven projekt planning : A study of a parameter-controlled project of a truss component

Araya, Woldereta, Hazem, Sarmad January 2021 (has links)
The endeavor for optimization and development in the construction industry is warranted where new solutions are highly sought for. The importance of communication and efficiency in a project planning phase is of highest importance. The objective of this study is to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of a parameter-driven modeling method, by using a Grasshopper software. To explore the possibilities of the software, a script will be created. The script will contain a parallel framework also known as Warren’s framework. In this study, a survey is sent for applicable practitioners in the construction industry where the purpose is to receive information about the industry's opinion about the subject. A parameter-driven modeling method refers to software such as Grasshopper and Dynamo. The software is node-based unlike traditional modeling methods based on manual line drawing. There is no fixed geometry in a parameter-driven modeling software. Therefore, in order to illustrate models, different visualization platforms like Rhino are needed. A considerable amount of time has been spent creating a script in Grasshopper where a user with limited experience will naturally face complications among the way. Many of the survey participants considered that the main con of parametric modeling is the amount of time allocated to creating a script. Thought when the script is completed, changing parameters to influence the model outcome is uncomplicated. Additionally, there is potential regarding time efficiency since the software eliminates all need to perform repetitive tasks. Parametric modeling is a flexible form of work where changes later in a stage are always available.

Principles for the adoption of offsite construction in design and construction companies

Sara Gusmao Brissi (11813714) 19 December 2021 (has links)
<p>The United States presents the appropriate conditions for a wider adoption of offsite construction (OSC): steady growth in the construction industry, high construction wages, shortage of labors, and demand for housing – especially multifamily housing. The multifamily housing market is overheated, but many design and construction companies are still struggling to stay strong in this market, marked by tight profit margins, high competitiveness and inefficiencies. OSC presents itself as a solution to help design and construction companies to become more efficient and resilient to potential market crises. However, the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry is hesitant to move to higher levels of OSC adoption, mainly because stakeholders, including owners, developers, designers, and construction companies, are not aware of the potential benefits resulting from OSC and are not prepared to promote the changes necessary for the successful adoption of OSC or for the engagement in modular construction, which would represent an important move towards industrialized construction. This study focused on how to implement strategic changes in design and construction companies, particularly small and medium-size enterprises, interested in successfully using OSC in multifamily housing projects, considering the need for more affordable and sustainable multifamily housing in the United States. Using mixed methods, the study involved five phases of data collection and data analysis and had the contribution of professionals from the AEC industry. Focusing only on the AEC industry of the United States, the researcher first identified the main factors affecting the use of OSC in multifamily projects, as well as the most important changes that design and construction companies need to adopt for the successful use of OSC in multifamily projects. The factors and the changes helped to structure and shape the scope of the principles, which were later consolidated and validated through research with professionals from design and construction companies. The final set of eight principles was divided into four topics: (1) strategy and business model, (2) people, organization, and culture, (3) technology, materials, and tools, and (4) processes and operations. In addition to helping to shape more efficient and resilient construction companies, the application of the proposed principles contributes to building more affordable and sustainable housing in the United States.</p>
