Estudo sistêmico da geração de conhecimento no IPEN / Systemic study of knowledge generation at IPEN

MONTEIRO, CARLOS A. 25 August 2016 (has links)
Submitted by Marco Antonio Oliveira da Silva (maosilva@ipen.br) on 2016-08-25T18:15:44Z No. of bitstreams: 0 / Made available in DSpace on 2016-08-25T18:15:44Z (GMT).

The open source software alternative : Factors and their impact on the decision-making process at Swedish municipalities

Karlsson, Tobias, Andersson, Henrik January 2005 (has links)
Arguably, the Schumpeterian ideology of “creative destruction” saying that eventually even the most secure monopoly will be destroyed by a new technology, a new idea, or a shift in tastes could be applied to open source software. Currently, the proprietary software holds a strong position in the software market. Nevertheless, one could see a surge in articles and acceptance among organisations concerning open source software. Proprietary software companies like Microsoft are still gaining ground within the Swedish municipalities. Although one get the impression that municipalities generally are positive toward open source software, the decision-making process often results in choosing a proprietary software alternative. However, one could question which are the underlying factors and to what extent are these factors affecting the decision-making process of municipalities integrating or migrating into open source software? In order to study this phenomenon, we chose a quantitative approach using a questionnaire as the tool for data gathering. The sample consisted of 100 randomly selected municipalities. A pre study was made through an interview in order to strengthen the accuracy of the questionnaire which later on was sent out to the IT manager at each municipality in the sample. The organisational-, environmental-, user- and system level are four main factors affecting the decision-making process concerning open source software. Among these, the organisational factor was the only one which had a significant negative impact on the decision-making process concerning open source software. The importance of being able to integrate different software increases the need for compatibility which, according to the IT managers, is facilitated using a standardized software environment offered by for example Microsoft.

Cultural values and leadership styles of middle level managers in a private sector hospitals in the Eastern Cape

Boguslavsky, Marianna January 2007 (has links)
In recent years, South Africa has seen increasing cultural diversification with regard to the appointment of managers in private healthcare facilities. However, research conducted in this area remains extremely limited. The aim of the present study was to explore and describe cultural values and leadership styles of middle managers at a private sector hospital in the Eastern Cape. Hofstede’s (1980, a ) model of cultural values served as a theoretical framework to conceptualise this study. The study was qualitative in nature and made use of in-depth research interviews conducted with a diverse sample of middle managers. The researcher made use of homogeneous and convenience sampling and utilised five participants. The qualitative data was analysed using Tesch’s (1990, in De Vos, 2002) method of analysis. Results revealed that despite the differences in personal culture, most of the managers are similar in their leadership styles and are also affected by the organizational culture. The results of the study contribute to a better understanding of the influence of cultural values and leadership styles in South Africa and will thereby benefit health institutions in their dealings with their modern day multi-cultural management staff.

In the introduction I define basic concepts associated with that topic. Then I bring the reader into the field of real estate appraisal and I define basic concepts and appraisal methods and description. In the next part of my thesis I mention the principles of the insurance company´s claim settlement activity, the products related to property insurance, the person involved in the settlement, and last but not least I outline the claim settlement process itself. However, the point is not just to provide a plain list of all steps involved in the process but to give the reader a better idea how to proceed and what the basic concepts of the field are. In the final practical part I will focus precisely on the determination of the compensation for the damage casused by the weight of snow based on reasonable costs and for bringing the insured property to its original (operational) state.

Creating Financial Database for Education and Research: Using WEB SCRAPING Technique

Rodrigues, Lanny Anthony, Polepally, Srujan Kumar January 2020 (has links)
Our objective of this thesis is to expand the microdata database of publicly available corporate information of the university by web scraping mechanism. The tool for this thesis is a web scraper that can access and concentrate information from websites utilizing a web application as an interface for client connection. In our comprehensive work we have demonstrated that the GRI text files approximately consist of 7227 companies; from the total number of companies the data is filtered with “listed” companies. Among the filtered 2252 companies some do not have income statements data. Hence, we have finally collected data of 2112 companies with 36 different sectors and 13 different countries in this thesis. The publicly available information of income statements between 2016 to 2020 have been collected by GRI of microdata department. Collecting such data from any proprietary database by web scraping may cost more than $ 24000 a year were collecting the same from the public database may cost almost nil, which we will discuss further in our thesis. In our work we are motivated to collect the financial data from the annual financial statement or financial report of the business concerns which can be used for the purpose to measure and investigate the trading costs and changes of securities, common assets, futures, cryptocurrencies, and so forth. Stock exchange, official statements and different business-related news are additionally sources of financial data that individuals will scrape. We are helping those petty investors and students who require financial statements from numerous companies for several years to verify the condition of the economy and finance concerning whether to capitalise or not, which is not possible in a conventional way; hence they use the web scraping mechanism to extract financial statements from diverse websites and make the investment decisions on further research and analysis. Here in this thesis work, we have indicated the outcome of the web scraping is to keep the extracted data in a database. The gathered data of the resulted database can be implemented for the required goal of further research, education, and other purposes with the further use of the web scraping technique.

Self-Efficacy and Selected Variables as Predictors of Persistence for First Quarter Students at a Proprietary Institution

Baughman, Leslie C. (Leslie Claire) 08 1900 (has links)
Proprietary colleges are uniquely different from two or four year colleges due to the emphasis on the student establishing a definite career path prior to enrollment. Because of this career track emphasis, Bandura's (1977) postulation that self-efficacy is a significant variable influencing task completion may offer insight into the challenge of student retention at a proprietary college. The study's purpose was to determine if career self-efficacy, demographic factors, and academic preparedness measures in first quarter students could predict student persistence, class attendance, and academic performance. The statistical technique of multinomial logistic regression was applied to data files of 725 first quarter students who attended The Art Institute of Dallas from Summer 1996 through Winter 1997. The predictor variables included a measure of career self-efficacy, ASSET scores (American College Testing Program, 1994), ethnicity, age, gender, full-time/part-time attendance, high school grade point average, parents' educational level, socioeconomic status, and developmental course placement. Criterion variables were completion, class attendance, and cumulative grade point average.
