Att göra det oväntade - en utvärdering av marknadsföringskampanjen "Låna dig rik" på ett mindre folkbibliotek

Johansson, Marie January 2011 (has links)
Futurum.kom is a collaborative marketing project with the aim of strengthening the internal organization of Länsbibliotek Sydost, Regionbibliotek Kalmar and the 25 public libraries within the southeast region. The project intends to externally build the brands of the public libraries in Blekinge, Kalmar and Kronobergs län. This thesis is a study and evaluation of the implementation and results of Futurum.kom’s first campaign "Låna dig rik" at a public library. The analysis is based on the following issues:  What goals does the library have with the "Låna dig rik"-campaign.  What is the feedback from the staff's experience of the users in terms of needs and demands?  In which way does the library choose to implement the marketing campaign and what role do the users have in this process?  What is the internal performance of the library's marketing campaign, what was the experience of the staff of the campaign?  What is the external result of the library's marketing campaign? The method is based on a case study of a single library, with a series of interviews and document analysis of written and electronic documents. The study reveals that the library`s main experience of the "Låna dig rik"- campaign was the marketing event held outside the library premises. By going outside the library and presenting themselves in a new situation and environment, they created new opportunities to meet the users and to build good relationships. The study also discovered that the library sought to combine the "Låna dig rik"-campaign with its own marketing strategy.

Leadership styles of senior librarian in the city of Cape Town

Denton, Theresa Leoni January 2013 (has links)
This study investigated the following: “Leadership styles of senior librarians in the City of Cape Town”. Stueart and Moran (1998) state that despite the vast amount of knowledge, training and focus on management, little is known about how to lead efficiently and effectively. The motivation behind this study originated from the assumption that determining the different leadership styles of senior librarians could contribute to a more effective public library service. If senior librarians were made aware of particular outcomes prompted by certain behaviour, they would be empowered to evaluate their leadership styles and adapt them in a more effective way, which could in turn lead to a more effective public library service. Empirical research techniques were used to apply both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Riggs (2001:6) states that librarians need to understand the difference between management and leadership. If senior librarians understand this difference, they will be able to lead more effectively. Hence, this study focused on transformational leadership, a leadership style which looks at the bigger picture, questions the status quo and focuses on improving services (Riggs, 2001:14). This study aimed to answer the following research questions: What are library managers’ job histories, educational qualifications and historical backgrounds? What are their beliefs about leadership, and how do they view their roles as leaders? Are they emulating a predecessor or leader whom they admire? Do they consciously consider their behaviour, actions and the consequences of their behaviour? In other words, do they apply strategies when they lead? Do managers inspire, motivate and communicate with their staff? Data were collected by means of a questionnaire administered to senior librarians and staff, which allowed the researcher to explore issues not previously thought of or planned for, and this provided valuable new insight into the problem. The results of this study affirmed that this research could contribute to an awareness of leadership in public libraries, and not only concentrate on management, as this could result in organisations becoming too task-driven, with the associated risk of the destination becoming more important than the journey itself. / Magister Bibliothecologiae - MBibl

Då och nu på biblioteket : Bibliotekariers förändrade yrkesroll / Past and Present : Changes in the role of librarians

Forsberg, Gunnel, Johansson, Tove January 2014 (has links)
In this Bachelor thesis, we examine how the work of the librarian has changed over the past three decades. The research questions focus on the changes in librarians´ roles and working tasks regarding factors like technique, meetings between librarians and visitors and also how to give service to visitors. We have conducted interviews with librarians at university libraries as well as public libraries. In all, there were four interviews. We have also compared the two types of libraries. We have looked closely at these factors: the tasks of the librarians, the skills needed, how the library has been used as a democratic arena, and what kinds of meetings there are among librarians and users of the library. From these themes we have created interview questions, and our analysis is structured according to the themes. We have worked from a theory on different kinds of identities within the profession. This theory is based on the works of Trine Schreiber and Anders Ørom who both are researchers in the discipline. Our conclusion, based on the interviews and also on previous research, is that earlier identified identities can be completed also with a role/identity that can be linked to a need of educating visitors, and a role/identity that regards marketing, i.e. to inform people about the library, its services and activities.

Multimedia technology enhances library services : creating an interactive DVD for Muncie Public Library / Title of accompanying DVD: Muncie Public Library : creating a DVD for enhancing Muncie Public Library services

Chiu, Chi-Hsun January 2006 (has links)
This creative project is to create a DVD as an interactive tool for Muncie Public Library librarians, introducing the library's environment and promoting programs to local residents. The DVD provides a friendly interface and utilizes the latest technology, such as Quick Time movies, 360° Virtual pictures and animations in introducing the library's facilities and guiding Muncie residents visually around the library. Additionally, the DVD provides a new method instead of a traditional flyer for residents to access the library's services and programs. / Department of Telecommunications

A Divided Role : - a qualitative study exploring how public library professionals are facing change within their profession

Nilsson, Jenny January 2019 (has links)
Due to changes within the public library profession and a lack of previous research regarding its societal role, this essay explores this phenomenon. The objective of this empirical study is to explore the societal role of public library professionals in Canada through the analyzation of semi-structured interview transcripts and a guideline document for professionals. The results were analyzed and sensitized through the theoretical frameworks of Abbott’s professionalization theory (1988) and Bourdieu’s praxeology theory (1986; 1992). Through grounded theorization, the study found that the role of professionals has changed, and is changing, due to not only external but also internal factors in the form of a conflict. This conflict was conceptualized through sensitization of Bourdieu’s framework as challenging and enabling ideas of the doxa of the profession. This conceptualization was understood further through the lens of Abbott’s system of professions where claims of expertise, which is viewed as a crucial part of professionalization, was theorized as an important part of that conflict.

Med kunskap i centrum: En studie med metodtriangulering om relationen mellan biblioteksplaner och icke-användare

Mohlin, Alice January 2019 (has links)
This study examines the relationship between the public library plans and the non-users, using amethod triangulation. The purpose of the study is to gain understanding to why the non-usersabstain the public library, and also point out specific user based developing areas described inthe plans which can be prioritized based on the reasons to why the non-users abstain. Thecollection and analysis of data was performed in an order similar to a domino effect, where thedocument research of the library plans was followed by an online survey, which was followedby qualitative interviews with non-users. The results show that there is a lack of specificmeasures described in the library plans directed to the non-users, but that the plans are filledwith methods of how to reach more users. The survey showed that there seems to be a relativelysmall knowledge of the daily activities and function of the public library among both users andnon-users. The answers from the interviews are discussed with a theoretical model of the rolesthe public library can have in society, which results in the conclusion that the non-usersinterviewed in this study solely see the public library as a knowledge centre which in manyways are associated with school and studies.
