Webbplattform för statusrapportering på Sandvik IT

Denna rapport handlar om framtagandet av en webbaserad rapporteringsplattform för Sandvik IT. Uppsatsen bryter ner och illustrerar de delar i processen som krävs för konverteringen från en dokumentbaserad till en webbaserad rapporteringsmetod genom att utgå från Sandvik IT’s rapporteringsscenario. Den dokumentbaserade rapporteringsmetoden utgörs av Excel och den webbaserade av Reporting Services. Många implementeringstekniska delar som kan vara av intresse för utvecklare tas upp. Uppsatsen täcker in kostnadsfrågor för hela livcykeln av webbplattformen och en jämförelse görs av de båda rapporteringsscenariorna En stor tyngd läggs även på att visa de problem som kan uppstå på vägen från rapporteringsscenariot med Excel till Reporting Services. Metoden för arbetet är platsundersökning, litteraturstudie samt en systemutvecklingsmetod som kallas för Agile. I slutet av uppsatsen finns det bilagor som visar hur de slutgiltiga rapporterna kan se ut.

Inledning Organisationer inom den offentliga och privata sektorn gör dagligen informationsuttag genom att använda olika datorbaserade verktyg för att kunna fatta bättre beslut genom det beslutsunderlag som tas fram. Dessa system används på olika nivåer i en organisation. Problemdiskussion Komplexiteten och intensiteten på marknaden är inga nya fenomen i dagens affärsmiljö då det ställer höga krav på beslutsfattarna. Därav finns det ett behov bland beslutsfattare att använda ett datorbaserat verktyg för att svara upp mot de höga kraven som ställs. Syfte Denna studie utvärderar analys- och rapporteringsverktyget QlikView och hur införandet av detta system i Jönköpings kommun påverkar första linjens chefer inom två av kommunens förvaltningar. Olika nyttoeffekter kommer att identifieras och utvärderas för att förstå vilket mervärde QlikView kan ge beslutsfattarna. Metod Kvalitativa och kvantitativa metoder har använts för att utvärdera faktorer i samband med införandet av QlikView. Dessa metoder har använts för att få en så rättvisande bild som möjligt av verkligheten. Kvalitativa intervjuer har utförts med olika nyckelpersoner och generaliserbarheten av studien har styrkts genom intervjuer med andra kommuner. Författarna har även utfört en gruppintervju med företaget QlikTech i Lund. Slutligen ingår även en observationsstudie i undersökningen. Slutsats Analysverktyget kan medföra olika nyttoeffekter som med stor sannolikhet kommer att realiseras vid användandet. Olika positiva effekter som är identifierade är tidsbesparingar vid informationsuttag, effektiv analys av information och en bättre kontroll av verksamheten. För att dessa nyttoeffekter ska realiseras så måste också användarna aktivt stödja denna förändringsprocess.

Srovnání vybraných komerčních reportingových BI platforem / Comparison of selected commercial reporting BI platforms

This Diploma thesis focuses on a comparison of selected commercial reporting BI platforms. The goals of the thesis are to create pilot dashboards based on three Business Intelligence tools, compare these tools among themselves and select the most optimal one for creating dashboards. The theoretical part describes the problematics of Business Intelligence, its principles and components. These are divided into several layers such as production systems, transformation and data layers, data analysis and presentation layer. The performance dashboard are then described and an indepth analysis of the commercial tools market has been performed. In the practical part pilot dashboards are created based on retail chains data in three selected Business Intelligence tools Power BI, QlikView and Tableau. These are then compared and based on a multi-criteria analysis the optimal tool for creating dashboards is selected and recommended. The evaluation criteria, their weights using Fuller´s method and the final evaluation based on the Weighted Sum Approach are set in the analysis. The Diploma thesis is set up for a project of the Competency center Retail Analytics and for the professional community. It shall be used as one of the sources in the selection of BI reporting platform.

Návrh a implementácia BI riešenia v poisťovníctve / Design and implementation of BI solution in insurance industry

The topic of this master thesis is the application of BI (Business Intelligence) Solutions in the insurance industry. The main objectives are the creation of model analyses and the design and implementation of partial BI solutions on the QlikView platform for smaller non-life insurance companies. The model also takes into consideration aspects of the new EU insurance regulatory directive, Solvency II, by selecting input parameters needed for the calculation of premium and reserve risk using segmentation rules from the lines of business specified in the directive. The thesis consists of three main parts. The first focuses on the QlikView BI platform, its market place, architecture, SW components and the technologies it takes advantage of. It also examines the differences and specific aspects of developing a BI solution using QlikView, compared to other more traditional platforms - one of these aspects is associative data modeling. The second part of the thesis focuses on the financial risks that insurance companies are exposed to, methods for their quantification and techniques that are used for solvency determination -- based upon Solvency II guidelines -- using SCR (Solvency Capital Requirement) and MCR (Minimum Capital Requirement) indicators. Particular chapters explain the concept behind the Solvency II directives and demonstrate the structure of standard formulae used for SCR calculations, which are used for ascertaining the Premium and/or Reserve risk. The final part of the thesis builds upon the earlier sections and contains practical instructions and recommendations for the development of BI solutions based on the QlikView platform in smaller non-life insurance companies. A designed model of the BI application can primarily be used for basic corporate performance monitoring but can also assist in the partial calculation of some risk categories according to the Solvency II directives. The practical section -- which is the ultimate product and the main benefit of this master thesis -- expands beyond the theory to provide a basic conceptual framework for the development of BI applications in small insurance company environments.

In-memory Business Intelligence : Verifying its Benefits against Conventional Approaches

Business intelligence project failures in organizations derive from various causes. Technological aspects regarding the use of business intelligence tools expose the problem of too complicated tool for operational users, lack of system scalability, dissatisfied software performance, and hard coded business requirements on the tools. This study was conducted in order to validate in-memory business intelligence advantages towards functionality, flexibility, performance, ease of use, and ease of development criteria. A case study research method had been applied to achieve the goals in this thesis. Primarily, a pilot study was carried out to collect the data both from literatures and interviews. Therefore, the design of test case had been developed. Types of testing can be divided into 2 categories: BI functionality test and performance test. The test results reveal that in-memory business intelligence enhances conventional business intelligence performance by improving the software’s loading time and response time. At the meantime, it was proved to be flexible than rule-based, query-based, and OLAP tools, whereas its functionality and ease of development were justified to be better than query-based system. Moreover, in-memory business intelligence provides a better ease of use over query-based and rule-based business intelligence tools. Pair wise comparisons and analyses between selected in-memory business intelligence tool, QlikView, and conventional business intelligence software, Cognos, SAS, and STB Reporter, from 3 banks were made in this study based on the aforementioned test results.

Object of study: business processes of preparation of management reporting of PJSC Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Subject of research: the process of analyzing and building data marts for reporting through BI systems in PJSC Ural Bank of Reconstruction and Development. The purpose of the work is to analyze and process data bank to build interactive reports to simplify the formation of economic reporting. The results obtained and their novelty: data analysis and development of interactive reports has final goals, the result of which is the bank obtaining competitive advantages.

Diploma thesis deals with comparison of commercial and Open Source Business Intelligence (BI) reporting tools. The main aim of the thesis is to provide a list of BI reporting tools and their further comparison. Evaluation is based on a set of criteria. Every criterium has its assigned value that represents the importance of the criterium in a given group. The same procedure is applied on the groups. The final evaluation is based on defined values of these groups. The output of the thesis is a table structured into five parts according to defined groups of criteria. The second part of the thesis walks the reader through the practical showcase of implementation one of the selected tools that is SAP Business Objects Enterprise 4.0. At the beginning, there is a description of report proposal that contains graphical design and functionality requirements. Next part shows the whole process in detail.
