Comparison of head morphometric traits within five selected performance types of Quarter Horses (Equus caballus)Smith, Elana Morgana 25 October 2002 (has links)
A study was conducted to investigate if morphometric facial measurements
could be utilized to differentiate five categorical performance types of Quarter Horses.
The five categories being Western, Halter, English, Reining, and Cutting. The
measurements were collected from 323 registered Quarter Horses representing animals
who ranged in age from one year to 30 years of age and one of three gender (Stallion,
Gelding, and Mare) categories. Eight facial measurements were obtained from two
geographic areas, Florida and Oregon. A correlation was performed and resulted in a
reduction of the data from eight to five facial measurements, due to the presence of
facial symmetry. The reduced data was subsequently analyzed by Multivariate
Analysis, using the Wilks Lambda Analysis of Variance. The Main effects, age,
gender, and categorical performance type were all significant (p<0.0001 to 0.001). Of
the two-way interactions only age:gender was not significant (p>0.05) and the three-way
interaction age:gender:type was also not significant (p>0.05) Based upon the
not significant (p>0.05) Based upon the results, the five original performance
categories could be reduced to four (English, Halter, Cutting, and
Western/Reining). This indicates that there are a number of similarities in facial
measurements between the Western and Reining horses. Findings of this thesis
indicate that selected facial morphometric traits exist and are characterized in the
different performance categories. / Graduation date: 2003

FE-BI METHOD FOR ANALYZING P-BAND CYLINDRICAL CONFORMAL MICROSTRIP ANTENNA AND ARRAYPeng, HongLi, Huang, Zheng, Han, WenBin 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 27-30, 1997 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / An edge-based hybrid finite element boundary integral (FE-BI) method using cylindrical
shell elements is described for analyzing conformal quarter-wave patches embedded in a
circular cylinder. Special care is also taken to deal with weight functions, dyadic Green’s
function, and feed model. Some types of the patch arrays embedded in different circular
radius have been developed. The tests of their VSWRs and radiation characteristics are in
good agreement with the theoretical results.

Comparing Different Levels of Interactivity in the Visualization of Spatio-Temporal DataEbinger, Samara 10 August 2005 (has links)
The Internet and other advances in technology have dramatically affected cartography in recent decades and yet these new capabilities have not been adequately evaluated for effectiveness. Are dynamic maps more effective than traditional static paper maps in allowing users to visualize spatio-temporal patterns? How important is a higher level of interactivity in visualizing data? Which format is preferred? To examine these questions, human subject tests were conducted to evaluate different levels of interactivity as represented by 1) a static paper map series; 2) an animated map with 'VCR'-type controls; and 3) a toggle map featuring an interactive temporal legend. Results indicate that while the level of interactivity did not affect accuracy of answers to questions regarding spatio-temporal patterns, the total amount of time in which these questions were answered lessened as the level of interactivity increased. Overall, test subjects were more enthusiastic towards the tools featuring greater interactivity.

The effects of MNC subsidiary's initiative on it's mandate of other marketsChen, Hsiang-ling 21 June 2004 (has links)
In the field of International business management, there is more and more concentration on the topic about the role of subsidiaries in the Multinational corporations (MNC). Subsidiaries not only accept the order of head-quarter but also contribute the competitive advantage to MNCs. Depending upon the trend of the academic research
The subject of the research focuses on the initiatives of Taiwan subsidiaries and their mandate in MNCs. Subsidiary initiative is defined as the activities subsidiaries take to increase the integration efficiency, local responsiveness and innovation activities. These activities include internal market development, external market development and innovation development. Subsidiary mandate is defined as the extended level and charter of decision making. Because subsidiaries have different value activities and charters which are set by the head-quarter, they will have different directions of their initiatives and mandate.
Through the interview five subsidiaries in Taiwan such as Ciba, Philips, IBM, Sram and 3M, the basis of this research is set. First, the analysis logistic is begun from the value activities and charter of the subsidiaries set by the head-quarter. Second, we compare the types of the initiatives taken by the subsidiaries. Third, we list the mandate of the subsidiaries and compare them with the changed mandate after taking initiatives. Through the analysis step, we conclude the relationship of the subsidiary initiative and subsidiary mandate.

Evaluation Of Urban Regeneration Issues For An Early 20th Century Quarter: Kadikoy-yeldegirmeniTarkay, Guse 01 June 2010 (has links) (PDF)
In the 60s, a new notion gentrification was used as a kind of residential transformation and gained importance in the 1970s and 1980s through the world. The notion used for the quarters invaded by upper income people and transformed to eloquent and expensive quarters after some renewal projects. This process is criticized because of some negative effects such as, displacement of old residents, increase of the prices in the area, appearance of conflict between the people of community and disappearance of social diversity.
Different waves of gentrification caused transformations in some urban quarters of istanbul. Yeldegirmeni, as an early 20th century historical urban quarter of Kadikö / y, is a potential area that may face with the threat of gentrification in the coming years because of some properties like historical character of the quarter, location that is close to the Kadikö / y center, diverse transportation facilities and the existence of pioneers and investors.
Considering that sustainable settlements of a city upgrade the environmental quality and life patterns of the inhabitants, provide social unity between them, increase the social consciousness, this thesis proposes a sustainable regeneration model for Yeldegirmeni to avoid gentrification. iskele Street in Yeldegirmeni is selected to make the spatial and social analyses in the quarter. According to these analyses, a pilot regeneration proposal which includes physical needs, physical interventions, functional decisions, social and environmental recommendations and average total cost is provided for iskele Street. Taking into the pilot regeneration proposal of one street, some decisions are constituted for the regeneration process throughout Yeldegirmeni.

Suvilahti - from cultural quarter to the engine of economic growth? : Exploring understandings of creativity in Helsinki, FinlandHyvönen, Katariina January 2015 (has links)
This study explores different understandings of culture and creativity in the Finnish urban policymaking. It focuses on the development project of Suvilahti, an old power plant that is transformed into work spaces of cultural producers. As a theoretical background it uses different approaches to culture-led urban development and asks whether a ‘creative policy gap’ exists in Helsinki’s cultural policymaking. By analysing the City of Helsinki’s strategies in the field of cultural policy and semi-structured interviews with a sample of cultural producers, the study finds that a ‘creativity gap’ exists between the understandings of different actors. While planners’ understanding is characterized by the neoliberal understanding of creativity, cultural producers mainly understand creativity through the value of cultural democratization. The study calls for a wider understanding of culture in urban policymaking that recognizes creative activities’ potential also in bringing well-being to the society and understands culture’s intrinsic value.
