Stabilita regionálních elit v Česku (2000 - 2012): Příklad Karlovarského kraje / Regional Elites Stability in Czechia (2000 - 2012): The Example of Karlovy Vary Self-governing Region

Master's thesis focuses on a role of regional councillors in process of regional development at the case of Karlovy Vary region. The aim of the thesis is to determine how the process of regional development is influenced by the stability of regional elites in terms of their territorial distribution in the region and their time stability in the subsequent regional elections. The thesis is based on theoretical background related to regional development with emphasis of soft factors of development in context of institutional approaches. The important part of the thesis represents analysis of inner differentiation of the model area and explanation of its causes. The original research consists of two parts. The outcome of the first part is an extensive database of candidates elected into regional assemblies of the Czech Republic in periods of 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012; and analysis of changes in membership structure of those regional assemblies. In the second part regional identity, attitudes and motivation of current regional councillors of Karlovy Vary region and their influence on the development of the region were examined by a questionnaire. The thesis "Regional Identity of the Residents and Holiday-makers in the Borderlands; Case Study: Bor in the Tachov Region" aims on the assessment of the regional identity of the residents and holiday-makers in the border area of the Czech Republic- Bor region, and then finding of the awareness of the solidarity of the users of the area in which they are living and which they are using for the purpose of recreation. Beside the assessment of the regional identity in the Bor region the thesis aims on comparison of the research outcomes of the chosen area with the overall outcomes of the grant project number 43/03/1491 and finding specifics through the questionnaire survey and guided dialogues, including tabular and graphical representation of the outcomes. Another aim is the assessment of the regional identity based on the promotional materials. The model area of Bor in the Tachov region is an example of the border periphery of the Czech Republic where the forming of regional identity was deeply affected by the World War II and successive settlement. The diploma thesis deals with regional products and their labelling schemes which have rarely been studied in the context of Czech geography. The thesis aims to identify the role of regional product labelling schemes in the process of institutionalizing regions (in the sense of Anssi Paasi) as well as to discover their contribution to the development of regions. The thesis is based on a theoretical discussion which includes the concept of region and regional identity formation, the issue of regional products as a part of the alternative food networks concept and the issue of symbolism and branding/labelling. The research consists of three parts. The first part provides a database of Czech labelling schemes and an assessment of regional product labelling in Czechia. In the second part, 22 labelling schemes united by the Association of Regional Brands are assessed from different perspectives (location, structural aspects etc.). The last part verifies and completes the findings using semi-structured interviews with key actors of the labelling schemes. The existence of the relation between labelling schemes and the institutionalization of regions was verified at each scale. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / A presente dissertação destina-se a analisar o processo de emergência da identidade sul-americana, cuja primeira manifestação remonta à década de 1990, acentuando-se após a I Reunião de Presidentes da América do Sul (2000). A imersão histórica de longa duração do primeiro capítulo, que nos remete à segunda década do século XIX, oferece-nos um instrumental analítico complementar ao arcabouço teórico utilizado, de modo a apresentar a identidade latino-americana principal concorrente da sul-americana como elemento criado a partir de estímulos vinculados a uma conjuntura específica. Desconstruídas supostas naturalidades identitárias, o segundo capítulo concentra-se na análise das principais iniciativas da diplomacia brasileira para a edificação dos diversos modelos de regionalismo no âmbito sul-americano, destacando-se a reunião proposta por Fernando Henrique Cardoso. Ato contínuo, o terceiro capítulo busca verificar as principais ações da gestão Lula da Silva para a região, tendo em vista que esta última foi alçada à condição de prioridade da política externa durante seu governo. Nesse sentido, levantamos os argumentos que embasam e estruturam a identidade sul-americana na virada do século XX para o XXI, trazendo à tona divergências paradigmáticas atinentes às agremiações partidárias que polarizam o cenário político nacional e, por conseguinte, apresentam convicções distintas no que tange ao aprofundamento dessa nova vertente identitária. / The present thesis aims to analyze the process of emergence of the South American identity, whose first appearance dates back to the 1990s, with a peak after the first Meeting of Presidents of South America (2000). The long-term historical immersion of the first chapter, which brings us to the second decade of the nineteenth century, offers us an analytical tool complementary to the theoretical framework used in order to present the Latin American identity the main competitor of South America as element created from stimuli linked to a specific context. Deconstructing the alleged naturalities behind identities, the second chapter focuses on the analysis of the main initiatives of Brazilian diplomacy for the edification of multiple models of regionalism in the South America, highlighting the meeting proposed by Fernando Henrique Cardoso. Thereafter, the third chapter seeks to identify the main actions of Lula da Silva for the region, given that the latter was raised to the condition of foreign policy priority for his government. Accordingly, we raise the arguments that underlie and structure the South American identity at the turn of the 20th century to 21th century, bringing up disagreements relating to paradigmatic associations between the Workers Party and the Brazilian Social Democracy Party, that bifurcates the national political scene and have different beliefs regarding to the deepening of this new identity.

<p>Uppsatsens syfte är att analysera om det finns en medvetenhet om regional identitet och image inom regionen Satakunta, samt om åsikterna om utformningen av den regionala identiteten och imagen är konkretiserade, eller inte. Utifrån en studie av Jazzmusikfestivalen i Björneborg undersöks detta. I och med det diskuterar författaren huruvida evenemang har en roll i skapandet av en attraktiv och konkurrenskraftig region. Syftet är också att undersöka om det finns samarbeten i regionen för att göra den attraktiv och konkurrenskraftig. För att få svar på syftet har författaren använt sig av primärdata i form av intervjuer med representanter från Björneborgs stad, Björneborg turistbyrå, Landskapsförbundet, Satakunta Tourist och Björneborg Jazzmusikfestival. Två av intervjuerna har genomförts via telefon och fyra intervjuer har genomförts via e-post.</p><p>Resultaten visar att det i Satakunta finns en medvetenhet om regionens identitet och image, men att det inte finns en gemensam åsikt om vad dessa är. Beer, Tourism and Regional Identity: Relationships between beer and tourism in Yorkshire, England

Beer, brewing, and the public house have been celebrated institutions in English culture for centuries. The drink occupies a venerable position in the gastronomy of most regions and is an integral component in the lives of many. There is an emerging literature on culinary tourism as an increasingly important element of cultural tourism. Local cuisine can be used to distinguish unique tourist regions from their competitors in an ever-globalising world. While wine tourism in particular has been studied quite thoroughly in recent years, beer tourism has been largely neglected. The purpose of this study is to explore the current state of, and potential for beer tourism in Yorkshire, England. Beer tourism can be described as “visitations to breweries, beer festivals, and beer shows for which beer tasting and experiencing the attributes of a beer region are the prime motivating factors for visitors” (Plummer et al. 2003). Through the use of a mail survey, short interviews, participant observation and secondary data collection techniques the author explored the extent to which local breweries use beer tourism practices; the specific beer tourism techniques being used by breweries in Yorkshire, and their perceived benefits and limitations; the partnerships, alliances and cooperation that may exist between the brewers themselves, and the tourism and hospitality industries; if and how tourism stakeholders draw upon beer and brewing to promote and market the region to tourists, and the role that brewers may play in this process. The author also made recommendations for brewery managers and regional marketing boards based upon relevant academic literature and the specific findings of this study. The author makes note of numerous findings on participation rates for breweries in tours and beer festivals, the perceived benefits and limitations that beer tourism has for brewers, and research on the branding and marketing of Yorkshire beer. A detailed typology of breweries based upon their relationship and degree of integration with the tourism industry is introduced. Furthermore, a tentative hypothesis based upon a brewer’s rationale for involvement in tourism and the size and success of that brewery is presented. This hypothesis must be empirically tested in future research to determine its acceptability. The author also presented a detailed review of the relevance of wine tourism literature for the field of beer tourism. It was found that although the two forms of beverage tourism share many commonalities, there exist as many differences. This comparison ultimately emphasises the importance of developing a specific beer tourism literature. It is hoped that the findings of this beer-specific research may be used by others with a keen interest in beer and tourism to undertake additional studies in the field. This study solely investigates the links between beer producers and the tourism and hospitality industry in Yorkshire, England. A similar study in an alternative setting would most likely yield interesting results. Furthermore, additional studies on beer and tourism should take the size, brewing output capacity, and possibly the revenue of a brewery into account in order to investigate potential differences between breweries’ tourism strategies based upon their size and success in their market.

O sertanejo além-mar : identidade regional e imigração goiana na República da Irlanda

A partir da análise de um fluxo emigratório de brasileiros de Goiás em direção à República da Irlanda, esta tese tem como objetivo compreender como os elementos da identidade regional desses imigrantes são reforçados, negociados ou negados no contexto da vida no exterior. Procurei, ainda, entender como essa experiência impacta as leituras que esses sujeitos fazem do lugar ao qual pertencem e dos lugares pelos quais transitam. A etnografia e a coleta de dados foram realizadas no Brasil e na Irlanda, entre 2009 e 2011, nas cidades de Anápolis, GO, e Tullamore, Kilbeggan e Gort, Irlanda, e teve um caráter multissituado. Considerando que as estimativas da emigração internacional no Brasil, apresentadas pelo IBGE e MRE, mostram que desde a década de 1980 o estado de Goiás se destaca como exportador de trabalhadores para o exterior, tentei identificar os elementos que alimentam a duração desse processo que, além de estar inserido no âmbito do fluxo emigratório de brasileiros na mesma década, sugere a formação de uma cultura emigratória no estado. A etnografia evidenciou que a centralidade dos elementos rurais na vida goiana permanece configurando os sentidos que os indivíduos atribuem ao mundo que os cerca, mesmo quando se deslocam para outros espaços geográficos ou se deparam com outras formas de viver e pensar o mundo. Nesse sentido, a região permanece como uma referência central da vida. Ao levaram sua música sertaneja, a comida típica, as festas de quadrilha, o berrante e as danças country para a Irlanda, esses imigrantes colocam no jogo das negociações identitárias sua regionalidade, evidenciando a diversidade que nos faz brasileiros. / From the analysis of an emigratory flux of brazilian people from Goiás to the Republic of Ireland, this thesis aims to understand how the elements of the regional identity of these imigrants are reinforced, negociated or denied in the context of living abroad. I´ve tried also to understand how is the impact of that experience in the reading that these individuals make of the place they belong and those where they transit. The ethnography and the data collection were made in Brazil and in Ireland, between 2009 and 2011, in the cities of Anápolis (GO – Brazil) and Tullamore, Kilbeggan and Gort (Ireland), showing a multi situated feature. Considering the brazilian international emigration estimates, presented by IBGE and MRE, showing that sinds the 1980´s the state of Goiás points out as an exporter of workers to foreign countries, I´ve tried to identify the elements that feed the duration of that process, which, besides of being inserted in the brazilian emigratory flux scope (that started in the same period), suggests the development of a emigratory culture in the state. As evidenced by ethnography, the centrality of the rural elements in the “vida goiana” keeps forming the senses that the individuals ascribe to the world surrounding them, even when they go to another geographic areas or face different ways of living and thinking the world. In that sense, the Region stays as a central reference of life. By taking their “sertaneja” music, typical food, “quadrilha” parties, “berrante” and country dances to Ireland, these imigrants include their region identity in the play of identity negotiations, evidencing the diversity that makes us brazilian.
