Asina nos criaron': Contesting the Narratives and Claiming Space in the Atomic Age: 1912-1955 examines how the establishment of the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratories (LASL), on the Pajarito Plateau, affected ethnic Spanish-speaking residents of the adjacent Pojoaque Valley. This thesis traces the long-standing history of a rural population who resided in the Pojoaque Valley, generally considered to be vacant land prior to LASL. Although this work focuses mostly on the 1940s, it also outlines the shifts in land ownership. Additionally, this thesis traces the physical changes and cultural negotiations that allowed these long time residents to remain on their land. It is argued that the imposition of LASL's social and economic hierarchies altered the Pojoaque valley's traditional intracultural relationships, which led to the subjugation of the area's ethnic Spanish-speaking nuevomexicanos. As a result, this population resorted to altering its ethnic identity in order to combat the racism introduced and enforced by LASL.

Title A comparison between top European teams performances Objectives − to focus on women's world football trends − to compare between Czech club or national team and top European teams − to analyze football systems, basic formations, set pieces solving − to evaluate qualitative and quantitative data and situation which was researched − to evaluate the research − to suggest a groundwork to training process Methods I used both direct and indirect observation methods in particular football matches. I had both videos available, even in one of the matches I attend as a player. I was researching particular game elements quantitatively and qualitatively as well. Base to the evaluation of the matches, I tried to suggest appropriate practice to eliminate deficiencies, which could be further used in training process. Results Results show the position of Czech women's football in Europe, the comparison between top European teams and if any of Czech teams could success in strong competition. Further, results show model situation of teams in offensive system and how the goals are scored. Also, results led to point out the deficiencies in Czech women's football with offering of solutions. abstract: This dissertation carries out an inter-disciplinary research of operations research, statistics, power system engineering, and economics. Specifically, this dissertation focuses on a special power system scheduling problem, a unit commitment problem with uncertainty. This scheduling problem is a two-stage decision problem. In the first stage, system operator determines the binary commitment status (on or off) of generators in advance. In the second stage, after the realization of uncertainty, the system operator determines generation levels of the generators. The goal of this dissertation is to develop computationally-tractable methodologies and algorithms to solve large-scale unit commitment problems with uncertainty. In the first part of this dissertation, two-stage models are studied to solve the problem. Two solution methods are studied and improved: stochastic programming and robust optimization. A scenario-based progressive hedging decomposition algorithm is applied. Several new hedging mechanisms and parameter selections rules are proposed and tested. A data-driven uncertainty set is proposed to improve the performance of robust optimization. In the second part of this dissertation, a framework to reduce the two-stage stochastic program to a single-stage deterministic formulation is proposed. Most computation of the proposed approach can be done by offline studies. With the assistance of offline analysis, simulation, and data mining, the unit commitment problems with uncertainty can be solved efficiently. Finally, the impacts of uncertainty on energy market prices are studied. A new component of locational marginal price, a marginal security component, which is the weighted shadow prices of the proposed security constraints, is proposed to better represent energy prices. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Industrial Engineering 2016

The goal of this Thesis is not only a plain description of common characteristics of Massive Multiplayer Online Games (their sorting and conditions on where they run are included), but also their integration to the wider phenomenon -- to cyberspace. Cyberspace reference is present in all recommendations and game specifics. Cyberspace is it`s base ingredient, the authority, to which all those parts are revoking to. And here it comes our second and main goal. The need of integration of players to that virtual world. To seek her desires, her true nature. That maybe done by describing various game devices and methods of connecting users of those devices to the cyberspace, let alone by expanding reader`s horizons to places, not known to her. All that is lead by one effort -- that the person, who will read that Thesis carefully, will be able to answer the question, if players get exactly what they need. And she`ll be able to do that before reading to the end.

Sedan 2012 har frivilliga sammhällsmedborgare fått utbildning via sin lokala räddningstjänst för att kunna åka på räddningsinsatser som en första insats innan räddningstjänsten hinner fram till platsen. Dessa frivilliga personer benämns som civila insatspersoner (CIP) och finns på ett 20-tal räddningstjänster runt om i Sverige, främst på landsbygden. CIP kan idag få larm om uppdrag genom tre olika system, SMS-listor, SOS.larm-appen och Safeland-appen. Den här studien har undersökt de olika systemen utifrån ett användarcentrerat perspektiv, vilket har gjorts genom en förebildsanalys och användarintervjuer som evaluerats med en tematisk analys. Genom en UX-designprocess förankrad i research through design (RtD) har en prototyp innehållandes nya designförslag tagits fram med ett fokus på användarnas behov. Utöver prototypen har fyra designinsikter om applikationer designade för CIP sammanställts: effektivitet, gemenskap, säkerhet och individualisering. Resultatet visar på att designförslagen och insikterna kan bidra till forskningsområdet och den fortsatta utvecklingen av appar för CIPar, dock är de i behov av ytterligare utvärdering innan deras tillämpbarhet kan säkerställas.

A implantação do tipo de planejamento proposto nesta tese é bastante complexa e inovadora, no Brasil e no mundo. Tais características impedem um tratamento, neste trabalho, ao mesmo tempo abrangente e detalhado em todas as suas múltiplas facetas. Optou-se, então, por definir, como uma contribuição específica da tese, o desenvolvimento, em detalhes, de estudos prospectivos do mercado de energia, incluindo programas de eficiência energética, em bacias hidrográficas, associados a planos nacionais e projeções de mercado estaduais. Como resultado desta avaliação, são propostas novas políticas energéticas, sobretudo na área de eficiência energética, para serem implantadas na bacia; seus prováveis impactos na demanda energética também são estimados, com o auxílio do modelo de projeção de demanda desenvolvido na tese / Abstract: Indicative studies of Integrated Resources Planning are proposed in this thesis for the Brazilian river basins, centred upon the availability, cost and quality of water, electricity and pipeline gas as important resources for regional development. The implementation of the kind of planning proposed in this thesis is highly complex and innovative, not only in Brazil but in the world. Such characteristics hinder an approach, here, which could be, at the same time, broad and detailed, in all its multiple aspects. The option taken, then, as a specific contribution of the thesis, was to develop detailed prospective studies for the energy market in river basins, including energy efficiency programmes, associated to national plans and market forecasts at the state level. To provide subsidies for these studies and to detect trends, wide scope retrospective analysis concerning the economy and the energy market in the State of São Paulo and in the river basin chosen were carried out, using several sources of classified information. A data basis containing social, economic and energy consumption information for the municipalities of that river basin was also built. The river basin chosen to illustrate the procedures proposed in this thesis was the UGRH-PCJ ¿ Unit of Hydro Resources Management of the Piracicaba, Capivari and Jundiai Rivers. Energy efficiency programmes recently implemented in the river basin studied here are evaluated in this work. Comparisons are made with well succeeded programmes abroad. As a result of this assessment, new energy policies for this river basin, particularly those concerning energy efficiency, are proposed.
