Demoulin, Jeanne 25 June 2014 (has links)
This thesis examines the effects of the integration of the participatory imperative in social housing organizations. It is grounded in three complementary fieldworks: "Mouvement HLM"’s speeches, the "rental consultation" settings and "social development"’s actions. This work first demonstrates how participatory mechanisms support the neoliberal turn in public action that started in the late 1970s. In so doing, it shows the historical coexistence between two forms of participation. The first form emphasizes on the evaluation of service delivery. The second insists on social assistance for tenants. The analysis then focuses on social housing organizations’ contemporary practices and is based on a survey conducted in a social housing organization under an Industrial Research Training Convention (CIFRE). Looking at the participatory settings’ expected outcomes, their implementation’s prerequisites and their effects on the system of actors, the demonstration highlights the meaning of "participation" in social housing organizations which are characterized by the coexistence of patrimonial, entrepreneurial and social logics. On the one hand, this thesis broadens the understanding of the logics that govern the formalization and the propagation of participatory settings in contemporary society. On the other hand, it deepens the comprehension of participatory setting’s effects on professional practices and relationships between individuals and institutions. Therefore, this thesis aims to contribute to the analysis of systemic transformations produced by the integration of participation in social structures.

System on fabrics utilising distributed computing

Kandaswamy, Partheepan January 2018 (has links)
The main vision of wearable computing is to make electronic systems an important part of everyday clothing in the future which will serve as intelligent personal assistants. Wearable devices have the potential to be wearable computers and not mere input/output devices for the human body. The present thesis focuses on introducing a new wearable computing paradigm, where the processing elements are closely coupled with the sensors that are distributed using Instruction Systolic Array (ISA) architecture. The thesis describes a novel, multiple sensor, multiple processor system architecture prototype based on the Instruction Systolic Array paradigm for distributed computing on fabrics. The thesis introduces new programming model to implement the distributed computer on fabrics. The implementation of the concept has been validated using parallel algorithms. A real-time shape sensing and reconstruction application has been implemented on this architecture and has demonstrated a physical design for a wearable system based on the ISA concept constructed from off-the-shelf microcontrollers and sensors. Results demonstrate that the real time application executes on the prototype ISA implementation thus confirming the viability of the proposed architecture for fabric-resident computing devices.

No. of bitstreams: 1 parte1.pdf: 1149503 bytes, checksum: 70ae403927fa9cee781f7e01448ceae9 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-05-13 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Using as starting point the geographical category of landscape and the concept of natural environment, this research sought to analyze changes on landscape and environment triggered by the tourism industry, especially by second-residence tourism . Given that tourism is one of the world's strongest industries and that in Brazil it is supported by municipal, state, and national governments, this research aimed addressing the negative impacts this industry may also have in the areas where it is developed. Many studies have approached the idea that tourism changes landscapes and natural environments; they have questioned the sustainability factor frequently proclaimed in political speeches, and how governments have planned and engaged with the management of this industry. Many concepts were observed in this analysis, such as: sustainable development, spatial and urban planning, public management, and landscape and tourism planning. An empirical research was conducted in the southern coastline of the state of Paraiba, more specifically at the beaches of Jacumã, Carapibus and Tabatinga in the city of Conde. Those areas were sampled as they have been regarded as important touristic areas as well as targets for real estate speculation since the early 1980s. In order to verify and assess the impacts, this research carried out interviews with members of the local public administration as well as owners of second residences (vacation house), in loco visits, and the analysis of aerial photographs and satellite images showing the irregular urban growth throughout the years. The results revealed to the negative impacts stemming from second residences and negligence by public administrators: irregular development in conservation areas and urban planning issues, which have ultimately jeopardized the landscape as well as the natural environment.

The production and expertise in the areas of the city for the performance of tourism have led to the intensification of social problems of nature that comes to few expelling the residents of the beaches. The cut space of the study included the four beaches of Natal / RN, the praias do Centro, Via Costeira, Ponta Negra beach in the Redinha. For this, was conducted a case study, using the technique of questioning, with the application of one hundred and sixteen (116) questionnaires to residents, with age from thirty-five years, between the four of the City Administrative Regions. The results show that the process of urbanization has interferido tourism on the practices of the recreation of residents in the areas as tourism has shown a trend seen in the intensifying problems of social order, such as prostitution, insecurity, pollution of beaches, etc. The combination of these problems are reflected negatively on the tourist areas and are gradually removing the residents. Through this framework problematic, given to tourist areas in the city, the resident still has not positioned the way criticizes the defense of these, choosing not express or adopting a form of discrete event, such as the gradual exit of the areas and electing tourist beaches in other municipalities. The results are of great significance for the direction of a trip planning committed with the participation of the resident in the planning process. The study is to corroborate with the importance of the participation of the resident, before the trip planning, as it is a fundamental agent for the sustainability of space tourism / O objetivo do estudo foi analisar e discutir o processo de urbaniza??o tur?stica na cidade do Natal enfocando a atua??o do residente enquanto agente produtor do espa?o tur?stico.

Protection of inhabitants and areas located below waterworks

FORMÁNEK, Karel January 2010 (has links)
The Czech Republic has a very dense network of waterways and a lot of lakes and small ponds. Floods belong to the most frequent natural disasters in the CR. Small water reservoirs in the flood protection system are of great importance. The retention capacity of those water reservoirs and feasibility to control water outflow are used. The aim of this study is to determine the state of preparedness to manage consequences of a possible failure and an accident on one of such water-works of category II, the pond Hvězda. Vulnerability of the area is assessed in terms of preparedness of state and local government authorities responsible for special flood consequences management. Meeting this objective is possible through compliance with the methodological procedure. The procedure implies studying legislation and normatives applied to the area, flood protection, population protection and crisis management. And it also involves evaluation of responsible institutions and the status of their documents concerning planning, and making comparisons with legislation requirements. Another objective is a proposal of my own solutions to the identified failures management. This is a project of planning documents completion, to be specific, a plan for the area below the water-works protection. The plan is a general conception and allows itself to be used for any water-work. The thesis also includes a brief elaboration of educational material in the form of a presentation, designed for involved authorities that are supposed to compile the plan, or to participate in its compilation. The objective, content and the method of the plan preparation are outlined. It is useful to inform the entities involved in the special flood management such as the Fire Prevention Unit, the Integrated Rescue System components about this issue. This thesis offers a solution to a specific problem, which is protection of inhabitants and areas located below water-works against a special flood impact. It also suggests the future view of an area vulnerability assessment, which consists in a comprehensive hazard mapping and its evaluation according to a unified methodology in the CR territory and assuring its compatibility within the EU.

Efeito da disponibilidade de sítios de nidificação sobre o sistema de acasalamento e o cuidado paternal em um opilião neotropical (Arachnida: Opiliones) / Effects of reproductive sites availability in the mating system and in the paternal care of a Neotropical harvestmen (Arachnida: Opiliones)

Rachel Miranda Werneck 25 June 2012 (has links)
Como conseqüência, o canibalismo filial é freqüente, pois os custos em termos de redução no tamanho da desova são menores do que os benefícios de manter a posse do ninho e dos ovos, que sabidamente aumentam a atratividade dos machos e suas chances de obterem novas desovas / Natural cavities are a reproductive resource that can be monopolized, and their availability determines the intensity of male-male competition, which in turn may influence the costs of paternal care since the higher the risk of loosing the resource, the low should be male foraging frequency. Females of the harvestman Magnispina neptunus use natural cavities as nest site, which are monopolized by males in typical resource defense polygyny mating system. After oviposition, females leave the nests and all parental activities are in charge of males. The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of nest site availability on the intrasexual competition and the costs of paternal care in M. neptunus. Two experimental groups were established in the laboratory: high (8 nests) and low (4 nests) nest site availability. Each group was composed of seven terraria containing 12 males and 12 females. Although the reduction of in the number of nests sites has indeed reduced the number of males holding nests, male size did not influence the probability of acquiring and maintaining a nest. Apparently, the small diameter of entrance in the experimental nests reduces the importance of male size on their resource holding power. Only previous residence seems to influence the output of agonistic interactions between two males and, therefore, the costs of leaving the nest to forage are likely to be high. In fact, guarding males remain almost all the time inside their nests, which increases the costs of paternal care. As a consequence, filial cannibalism is frequent in both experimental groups because the costs in terms of reduction in clutch size are likely to lower than the benefits of holding a nest containing eggs, which is known to increase male attractiveness and his chance of acquiring additional eggs

This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2015 with 122 students aged 14-19 years of a Federal Public Education Institution in the Midwest of Brazil. Demographic, socioeconomic, anthropometric, hemodynamic, biochemical, nutritional and behavioral data were collected. Regarding to the time in residence at the institution, the students were grouped as freshmen in 2015 (Group 1, <8 months in the institution) and those who were freshmen in 2014 (Group 2, >20 months in the institution). Students presented behaviors risk, such as: cigarette smoking (13.1%), high alcohol consumption (45.9%), multiple sexual partners (77.1%), and early the age at first intercourse sexual (89.1%). These behaviors are intensified by fragile socioeconomic conditions (37.7% with family income up to 1 minimum wage and 51.6% from 1 to 3 minimum wages). However, they were physically active (70.5%). Spent longer time at the institution was associated with older age (p≤0.001), less doses of alcohol consumption (p=0.007), adequate BMI (p=0.027), and higher nutritional knowledge (p=0.017). Overweight prevalence (20.5%) was inversely associated with family income higher than 3 times the minimum wage (RP=0.84, CI 0.74-0.95) and breakfast consumption (RP=0.82, CI 0.72-0.92). Moreover, alterations in the arterial pressure (40.2%) were found, as well in lipid profile, such higher prevalence of inadequate HDL-c (96.7%) and LDL-c (31.7%). In conclusion, students present socioeconomic vulnerability, high prevalence of overweight and health risk behaviors, such as smoking, high alcohol consumption, and sexual behaviors. These results may be related to family distance. Such health-related behaviors in addition to changes in the biochemical and hemodynamic profile are risk factors for the development of non-communicable chronic diseases.
