Abstract Since economic recession happened globally in 2000, Taiwan has not been able to keep itself out of the financial tsunami. The unemployment rate was increasing gradually, and the economic problem was getting worse. In view of this, the central government led by Democratic Progressive Party at that time proposed ¡§Doubling Tourist Arrivals Plan¡¨ in order to improve the economic situation. The plan had the following merits: (1) Tourist industry itself had high added value. (2) The resource consumption was relatively of low pollution (e.g. less water use, and less garbage, so it was similar to the smokeless industry proposed by scholars in 1970). (3) Tourist industry had great correlation with other industries, and thus could bring about the development of related industries (such as food processing industry, transportation industry, retail business, insurance and financial industry ¡K etc.). It was hoped that the traditional industries which were going to have survival problems could be replaced by tourist industry. The proposed policy embraced the goals and objectives of the best economic and industrial development strategies, which were expected to create high economic growth, solve unemployment problem, and alleviate environmental destruction. At the very beginning the intention for establishment of this plan was quite good. However, the actual effects of the plan were not as sound as expected. The study mainly hopes to understand whether the implementation of the strategies had any obstruction or problems that made the plan unable to be thoroughly implemented and made the problems unsolved: (1) Were the planned objectives and the actual implementation sufficiently and perfectly connected, and were the results of the plan affected? (2) Was the allocation of budget and resources appropriately involved in the plan, and how was the effectiveness of the use of funds? (3) Did the influence caused and the effectiveness derived from the implementation of the plan conform to the expected outcomes, and what was the value or contribution caused to the development of tourist businesses of Taiwan? Therefore, the study mainly hopes to accomplish the purposes and positioning of the above three research items, and find out the critical problems and methods so as to give suggestions and endeavoring direction for the improvement and demand of tourist industry in the next step. Furthermore, the study gives concrete suggestions for the promotion of the employment ability, and for how to meet the need of training of the talents in tourist industry.

A Study of Implementing E-commerce in the Tourist Hotels in the Post-SARS Age

This study objects are focus on the tourist hotels in the north region of Taiwan. The research method adopts information collection from their websites and conducts in-depth observation and research from the content of the case-study hotel websites, in order to acquaint with their primary business contents. The related references and papers are also referred to, for analyzing and structuring the initial data. Finally, the framework of 4P (product phase, price phase, promotion phase, place phase) serves as the analytical structure to collect the main business and management contents of the tourist hotels and their applications in E-commerce. On the other hand, the interviews with the E-commerce executives in some case-study hotels also are conducted in order to make up the insufficient of website observations. Through the in-depth website observation and case-study hotel supervisor interviews, we find how the case-study hotels use E-commerce technology to provide with their services and products online in the post-SARS age and categorize their e-commerce strategies. The purpose of this research is to provide hotels with effective methods to respond to the customer requirements, avoiding vicious price competition in the same industry, and reduce the risks in hotel management through the E-commerce development trends in the tourist hotel industry. Hopefully, the research of this study can help the hotels to create better management efficacy, and to promote the prosperity in the domestic tourist hotel industry. A comparative study of Pulguk-sa and Haein-sa temples as tourist destinations in Korea

Pulguk-sa and Haein-sa Temples, which are ~ical Buddhist temple destinations, are located in the south-east of the Korean peninsula and attract the highest number of tourists of the twothousand temples in Korea. Pulguk-sa is located in the Kyongj u National Park, and Haein-sa is in the Mount Kaya National Park. Both temple sites have been designated officially as Historic and Scenic Sites by the Korean Government. This thesis examines the total impact of tourism at these two important temples and in so doing draws out a number of p::>licy recommendations to improve them as tourist destinations. To carry out the research, surveys were undertaken which incorporated the business community, the monks and the visitors at the temple sites, together with numerous face to face interviews with the temple authorites and local and national government officials. In addition to providing much qualitative information, the surveys made possible the construction of local Input-output models to assess the economic impact of tourism. In this manner an overall perspective of the tourism demand and supply situation at the two temples was obtained which enabled comparisons to be made, the economic importance of tourism to be identified, and development priorities to be listed

This research studied a possible strategy to attract Nicaraguan people to visit Taiwan as tourists. Taiwan is known as East Asia’s sole island bisected by the Tropic of Cancer. Undoubtedly, it is rich in tourism resources; it’s developing its destinations, theme and lifestyle as well as health and fitness tourism. Taiwan has great potential in ecological travel such as bird watching, and whale and dolphin watching, and theme travel like festival tourism, cultural tourism and medical/recuperative tourism. Now with firsthand experience, Taiwan has shown me fascinating places of unique splendor, beauty and traditions. As a Nicaraguan citizen, I have sympathized and shared similar experiences with my countrymen (Nicaraguans) while living and studying in Taiwan. They have manifested great interest in traveling. Undoubtedly, Nicaraguan people are willing to visit, know, and explore places, especially Asian countries. As a result, we did interviews to a focus group of Nicaraguan students, first-time Nicaraguan visitors and a diplomat to study whether my countrymen would choose to travel to Taiwan as tourists. In the interviews, we found common themes, categories and patterns that suggest to us that Nicaraguans would choose Taiwan as a tourist destination. Providing affordable tourist packages to these visitors would give the opportunity to have access and channels to travel to Taiwan. To prevent a decline in the tourism assets of South Africa, while simultaneously maximizing • the economic benefits and job opportunities arising from tourism, it is vitally important for the industry to be managed with great care. Against the backdrop of domestic tourism in South Africa, research was conducted into and recommendations made on the issue of whether the tourist destination sector has the necessary management structure and infra-organization to underpin effective management, communication, co-ordination and the promotion of tourism activities and objectives within this sector. An historical perspective on the process of change affecting the organization of tourism, linked to the findings derived from the empirical study, will endeavour to give an account of the development of tourism organizations in the destination sector compared to the present day state of affairs at national, regional and local levels. As a significant part of the success of any organization may be att~buted to good management and organization, this study also focuses on the importance of management in general, organization, types of structures, effective communication co-ordination and marketing communication.

Swedish tourists’ perceptions, satisfactions and behavioral intentions toward Thailand Destination. A study based on the post-purchase stage

To explore the destination images of Thailand as a tourist destination from the point of view of Swedish Generation X tourists in Västerås by examining their satisfaction/dissatisfaction and behavioral intentions after traveling to Thailand. To test the theoretical DI formation and interrelationships of those components. A qualitative research approach with in-depth interviews to collect empirical date derived from respondents’ first-hand experiences. Destination Image Theory was used as a background and Content Analysis Approach was used to analyze data.  Thailand was perceived positive and negative by Swedish generation X tourists in Västerås. They were satisfied with their stay at Thailand. After traveling to Thailand, most of them would like to revisit Thailand, but few of them want to travel to new destination. All of them are willing to tell friends or relatives about their experiences in Thailand.
