In the first chapter, I study whether seemingly innocuous decisions in the construction of the original HML portfolio (Fama and French, 1993) affect our inference on the value premium. I find that the value premium is dramatically smaller than we thought. In sample, the average estimate of the value premium is 0.09% per month smaller than the original estimate of the value premium. Out of sample, however, the difference is statistically insignificant. The results suggest that the original value premium estimate is upward biased because of a chance result in the original research decisions. In the second chapter, I propose an estimate for intangible assets and growth opportunities and examine if this estimate improves book-to-market equity as a measure of value. I find that portfolios sorted on book equity plus the estimate to market equity have lower returns than portfolios sorted on book-to-market equity. The results suggest that intangible assets and growth opportunities diminish book-to-market equity as a measure of value because investors value intangible assets and growth opportunities in an overly optimistic way. In my third chapter, I simultaneously study nine explanations of the value effect to better understand what the dominant value explanation is. I find that duration accounts for most of the value effect and that the eight other explanations account for a negligible part of it. The term "teachable moment" (TM) has been used to describe a life transition or event which motivates an individual to change a behavior or presents an opportunity to intervene to prompt behavior change. We examined whether receipt of a false positive ovarian cancer (OC) screening result may represent a TM. 403 women participating in an OC screening program completed questionnaires assessing demographic, clinical, behavioral, and psychosocial information. The TM was operationalized as expressed interest in receiving health-related information. We hypothesized that among women receiving a false positive screening test result, those women who had experienced greater personal perceived risk for OC as well as distress would be more interested in receiving health-related information than women receiving a normal result. Analyses revealed that women receiving a false positive screening result were less interested in receiving health-related information than women receiving a normal screening result. For women receiving a false positive result, expressed interest in receipt of health-related information was only modestly related to distress and related even less to perceptions of OC risk. Our data do not support viewing a false positive OC screening result as a TM. Potential explanations for the current findings as well as recommendations for future research investigating the TM are discussed.

В третьей главе работы сформулированы конкретные мероприятия, которые будут способствовать росту показателей финансовых результатов ООО «Интернет решения» и проведена оценка их эффективности, подтверждающая практическую значимость проведенного исследования. / The structure of the master's thesis includes an introduction, three chapters, conclusion, list of references and appendices. The first chapter of the work summarizes various scientific approaches to the category of "financial results", as well as their role and importance in the activities of enterprises. At the theoretical level, methods for evaluating financial results are formulated and characterized, and factors that influence the dynamics of financial results of economic entities are classified. The second chapter of the work presents the financial and economic characteristics of Internet Solutions LLC. An assessment of the financial results of Internet Solutions LLC was also carried out, based on the results of which the key problems of improving the financial efficiency of Internet Solutions LLC were formulated. In the third chapter of the work, specific measures are formulated that will contribute to the growth of the financial results of Internet Solutions LLC and an assessment of their effectiveness is carried out, confirming the practical significance of of the study.

Title: The way to success Level: Final assignment for a Master’s Degree in Business Administration Authors: Larisa Glazkova and Veronika Larsson Supervisor: Jonas Kågström Date: 2011 – January Aim: Many companies are started each year, but only some of them are successful and generate worthwhile profits. Many new companies do not survive the first few years. The purpose of this thesis is to identify factors that can lead to success for small and medium-sized enterprises in Gästrikland. Method: We analysed 559 interview surveys that were collected during the years 2004-2010 and success factors were defined. Additionally, financial reports from the database Retriever were analysed. A regression analysis on return on equity, return on assets, profit margin, revenue growth, net sales and success factors was carried out. Results & Conclusions: By using qualitative and quantitative methods, we identified some group factors (forward quest, soft values, knowledge/skills, and management/organisation) as well as some single success factors (economic balance, contacts, competence, entrepreneurship, flexibility, law following, etc.) that led to success. Suggestions for future research: The database contains survey responses and can form the basis for future research. Some researchers from the Centre for Musculoskeletal Research already use the database to write articles and essays. Success can be measured by other variables than profitability and growth. Profitability and growth can also be measured with different ratios. This opens up for new possibilities for further statistical surveys. Furthermore, other statistical methods can be used. Thesis contribution: The research shows the most important factors that can lead to success. The result can be used by small and medium sized companies that want to improve their business or by those who are planning to start up a new business and are in need of advice on this. Title of Work: Analysis of team game performance of basketball representation of the Czech Republic at the European Championship 2013 in Slovenia. Objectives of Thesis: The main goal of our work is to compare team game performances of Group C and compare the final results of the Czech Republic representation in detail with its rivals at the European Championship in 2013. Partial target is a comparison of average merits between groups of teams which made it to the second round of the tournament of the European Championship 2013 which didn't succeed. Methods of Work: The chief method of the writing was a quantitative analysis of video records of all of the games of Group C, European Championship 2013 with detailed final results of the Czech Republic and its rivals. While using the method of observation, we registered the characteristics of the games and then compared it within the participating teams. In the second part, we compared the final results of pointers of the moving teams to the qualification and teams which didn't' succeed in Group C, European Championship 2013 in Basketball. Diploma thesis deals with the evaluation of results in global development education. It describes bases and content of global development education and its expected results. It compares quantitative and qualitative methods of measuring results considering their ability to measure real contribution of the evaluated activity. It highlights the need to demonstrate the validity and reliability of a measurement. It explains the role of values, criteria and indicators in the evaluation. Furthermore, the thesis deals with the measurement of contribution specifically in the area of global development education. It provides an overview of measurements made in global development education according to their validity. It also offers a list of quality criteria used in global development education. The research part of the thesis presents the results of an investigation which aimed to determine how selected Czech organizations dealing with global development education evaluate the results of their activities. It tries to determine what facilitates the evaluation of results and what represents a barrier to it. It results from a qualitative analysis of interviews and written materials provided by the organizations.

Objetivo: Avaliar os resultados clínicos e radiológicos tardios de pacientes submetidos à angioplastia carotídea com colocação de stent (ACS) por doença aterosclerótica estenosante bulbar e determinar se o método é efetivo na prevenção de novos eventos isquêmicos cerebrais e se o método é durável na manutenção perviedade arterial. Métodos: Acompanhamos clinicamente e radiologicamente, por ultra-som Doppler (USD) e angiografia cerebral com subtração óssea digital (DSA), pacientes com estenose do bulbo carotídeo por doença aterosclerótica submetidos a ACS no período de janeiro de 2002 a maio de 2005 realizadas nos INRAD-HCFMUSP e Hospital Santa Marcelina de Itaquera. Resultados: 80 pacientes submetidos 84 ACS foram acompanhados clinicamente e radiologicamente num período entre 25 a 66 meses, média 43,8 meses, com um único caso de reestenose grave intra-stent (1,2%) e um único caso de novo evento isquêmico cerebral (1,3%). Conclusão: A ACS é um método durável na manutenção da perviedade do bulbo carotídeo e eficiente a longo prazo na redução de eventos isquêmicos cerebrais em pacientes com doença aterosclerótica do bulbo carotídeo. / Objective: to evaluate the long-term clinic and radiologic results for the patients submitted to angioplasty with stent implantation because estenotic atherosclerosis disease of the carotid bulb and to determine if ACS is effective to prevent the cerebral ischemic attack and durable to keep the carotid bulb opened. Methods: We follow-up clinically and radiologically, by ultrasound with color and spectral Doppler (USD) and with digital subtraction angiography (DSA), patients with atherosclerotic disease of the carotid bulb submitted to ACS realized between January of 2002 and may of 2005 in the INRAD-HCFMUS and Hospital Santa Marcelina de Itaquera. Results: 80 patients who underwent 84 ACS were evaluated clinically and radiologically in the long-term follow-up, 25 to 66 months, with media of the 43,8 months, with only one case of restenosis (1,2%) and only one case of new ischemic event (1,3%). Conclusion: The ACS é a effective method to keep the carotid bulb opened and it is efficient to prevent new ischemic event in patients with atherosclerotic disease of the carotid bulb.
