Enhanced OpenModelica Python Interface

Bajracharya, Sudeep January 2016 (has links)
OMPython is a Python library for OpenModelica, which provides a Python interface to OpenModelica. This thesis significantly improves OMPython by an enhanced, more powerful and easier to use API. It presents how a user can use the Python interface to simulate and access Modelica models using Python objects. The enhanced OMPython includes the list of functions that have been implemented such as getXXXNames(), getXXXValues(), setXXXValues(), getXXXOptions(), setXXXOptions(), and simulate(), etc. that allow users to interact with Modelica model properties(i.e., model variables) and the output of the OpenModelica compiler and simulator. A few Modelica models are used for demonstrations in order to make it easy for readers to understand. By the way, this thesis does not describe modeling Modelica models or compilation of such models.

Piano tuition for the beginner: The structuring and teaching of the basic movements in piano playing

Rhoodie, Hester Sophia 28 January 2005 (has links)
Literature study on piano technique, which consists mainly of piano pedagogues' empirical considerations, indicates the existence of common strategies/theories regarding the development of a piano technique. A meaningful and scientifically grounded piano-technical orientation is one of the major factors during the first few months of piano tuition and provides a basis for the development of an advanced piano technique. The majority of beginner piano courses use the adjacent, legato five finger method. The researcher identified six beginner courses, which were analysed in order to measure their presentation of a well-structured piano-technical development against the recommendations of well-known piano pedagogues/author~ in this field. During this process, demerits in the sequence, structure and presentation of the basic movements in piano playing were found. In most instances the use of the bigger levers are not addressed at all. All the levers and their specific movements should be addressed from the very first lesson. A logical motoric and educational process is to concentrate on the bigger levers (giving the support), which perform slower and easier movements, and then move on to the smaller levers, which perform faster and more complicated movements. All theoretical information in the beginner books studied is properly explained and presented in a very structured manner. The researcher is, however, concerned about the fact that there is not enough structure in the sequence of teaching and developing the basic technical movements in the beginner piano courses using the adjacent, legato five finger method. The connection between sound and movement is not made. Authors in the field of piano technique emphasize the fact that the movements the beginner is taught during the first lessons provide the technical foundation for the rest of his/her life. To address demerits in the structure, presentation and discrepancy in the sequence of learning the basic movements, the researcher compiles exercises for the beginner. These exercises concentrate on specific movements and results in sound recommended by well-known authors in the field of piano technique. In addition the researcher strives to explain the movements as clearly as possible and illustrates them with photographs and pictures. / Thesis (DMus (Performing Arts))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Music / unrestricted

NPM i svenskt bistånd : Resultatstyrningens utveckling på Sida och dess påverkan på biståndsinsatserna

Asplund, Kajsa January 2017 (has links)
This essay investigates how employees on the Swedish international development cooperation agency (Sida) perceives that the new public management (NPM) reform, result based management (RBM), have affected the international aid. And also, how the employees think that managing based on results works together with a holistic approach to aid. The material for the study was collected through qualitative interviews with five senior employees on Sida, mostly people that today sits on leading positions in the agency. The interviews had a reflective character where the respondents looked back on the twenty-year period that the agency have managed via results. What became evident in the study was that RBM have looked very different over the years, with different effect on the international aid as a result. There have been waves of result based management, and an oscillation between quantitative and qualitative results. The Swedish international aid through Sida has changed over time, some changes can be attributed to RBM, while others are due to political priorities, a changing world, and trends in the international aid. RBM effects the aid, primarily as it is supposed to. For example, the best performing organisations and actors in a sector gets the aid. But it also affects the aid in a manner perceived negative by the respondents. This when the focus lies on quantitative results. The focus on results have oscillated over the years between a quantitative and qualitative focus, with consequences for which aid-projects that get support from Sida. When focus lies on quantitative results, easily quantifiable, concrete projects gains ground to the disadvantage of non-quantifiable projects, and for example big reform processes. The respondents do not think that there are any discrepancies between a holistic approach to aid and result based management, if the focus on results are balanced and leaning towards easily quantifiable results. When the focus tips over towards quantifiability, a holistic view on aid is hard to maintain.

Environmental Assessment of Materials, Components and Buildings Building Specific Considerations, Open-loop Recycling, Variations in Assessment Results and the Usage Phase of Buildings

Borg, Mathias January 2001 (has links)
The building sector is a major contributor to theenvironmental loads generated by the society. The recognitionof this fact by the sector and a general strive toward asustainable society have lead to afocus on different toolsthat can be used to enhance the environmental performance ofthe sector and the society. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is oneof these tools. The LCA methodology was initially developed forassessments of short-lived consumer products. The increasinginterest in using the LCA methodology in the context of thebuilding sector has initiated a development of the methodologyto be able to consider the specific characteristics andconsiderations of the building sector. These are specific forthe building sector, but not always unique. Examples ofcharacteristics and considerations are: that each building isunique, the functional output is not always a physical productbut rather a service, the long service lives of buildings. These have implications on several elements in the LCAmethodology. The influenced elements that are dealt with inthis thesis are in particular the modeling of the system, thefunctional unit, boundary setting, life cycle scenarios, scenarios and inventory of the usage phase and allocationprocedures. Buildings and constructions are commonly not static systems. The systems are rather dynamic in the sense that the systemwill provide different services based on the same physicalstructure during its service life. To be able to model thedynamic system sequential life cycle thinking is introduced anda list of topics is derived. The list of topics is a structuredpresentation of issues that are of interest in the pursuit of aflexible LCA methodology. The goal is to find out if amethodological approach is suitable for modeling dynamicsystems with a functional unit that is based on the providedservice rather than the physical building. Boundary setting, life cycle scenarios, allocationprocedures, predicted service life and the modelling of theusage phase are all elements of the LCA methodology that havean potential to influence the result of an LCA in a significantway. The magnitude of the potential influence has beenmonitored based on the results of three case studies, whichhave been elaborated further to be able to estimate themagnitude of the potential influence. There is a multitude of available allocation procedurespresented and used in different contexts. The procedures aredeveloped based on different considerations and with differentintended applications. Two alternative allocation proceduresare presented in this thesis. The first is a proceduredeveloped with multi recyclable materials in mind and it isbased on the recyclability of materials and products. Thesecond procedure is quite recently developed and it is based ona combination of economic parameters and recyclability. The importance of the usage phase for buildings andconstructions has previously been recognised. The maincontributors to the environmental loads generated during theusage phase are energy use, maintenance and emissions fromproducts. It is, however, not very common to consider the usagephase in assessments conducted on materials and components, even though it is stipulated in e.g. ISO 14025 that the wholelife cycle should be considered. A proposal of a model toestimate the environmental loads is, therefore, presented. [en] THE MANAGEMENT OF CHANGE IN BRAZILIAN ORGANIZATIONS OF PUBLIC INTEREST: AN OVERVIEW OF ADVISORS / [pt] A GESTÃO DE MUDANÇAS EM ORGANIZAÇÕES BRASILEIRAS DE INTERESSE PÚBLICO: UMA PERSPECTIVA DOS CONSULTORES

BETANIA DUMOULIN DOS REIS 21 June 2011 (has links)
[en] This study aims to analyze the impacts generated by the adoption of the model Managing for Results in Brazilian public sector organizations, with four approaches: i) identify factors that stimulate the adoption of this management model; II) to analyze the organizational dimensions impacted; (iii) discuss the factors constraining and facilitating the implementation of this model, both organizational and individual, and (iv) identify the main techniques used in change management. The analysis is built on the perception of expert consultants and pioneers in the implementation of managing for results in Brazilian public sector organizations. It is based on interviews held in January and February 2010. This is a phenomenographic study. Phenomenography is empirical study on the different ways of how people experience, interpret, understand, perceive, understand and conceptualize a phenomenon, a subject or a certain aspect of reality. The main objective of this theory is to understand the phenomena from the viewpoint of those who experience them. It s collective analysis of individual experiences. The research identifies four areas of results: i) Factors boosters, external and internal to the organization; Dimensions impacted, the culture and the strategy, iii) critical factors for change, organizational and individual, and iv) methods of change management. The research concludes that the results obtained during the implementation of Managing for Results model experiments generate a positive institution that adopts it, which ultimately stimulate the search for exciting results and the adequacy of the institutional framework, which consequently tends long-term, albeit intermittently, to promote the adoption of practices to manage for results by other public sector organizations in Brazil.

ANALYSRESULTAT FRÅN ENSKILDA BRUNNAR PÅ GOTLAND : TILLGÄNGLIGGÖRANDE OCH ANVÄNDNINGSOMRÅDEN / Analysis results from private wells on Gotland : Availability and area of application.

Björkenstig, Caroline January 2019 (has links)
The water supply on Gotland mainly consists of withdrawal from groundwater wells both for public and private use. The groundwater on Gotland is especially vulnerable for contamination and effects of climate change because of the geology and thin soil layer. The data collection regarding the quality of the groundwater is limited today and it is desirable that information and knowledge about the groundwater improves. Primarily, this concerns Gotland’s 14000 private wells where analysis results are not available for authorities to use, for example, for work with environmental goals and water management. Therefore, this work aims to produce a proposition on how to make analysis results available and which use and applications they can have, and hopefully this can be a starting point for a practical implementation on Gotland. The Water laboratory on Gotland, SGU (Geological Survey of Sweden) and the County Administrative Board answered a questionnaire about their area of work and involvement in this. The answers provided a basis for this work, resulting in two suggestions on how to make the analysis results available and in a consent form. In summary, it is possible to start to collect data on analysis results, which can be of importance and use in the water management on Gotland. This will be more easily implemented and easier when the Water laboratory get their new computer system.
