The Effect of Scale Centredness on Patient Satisfaction Responses

High satisfaction rates and the lack of response variability are problematic areas in survey research. An important area of methodological concern for self-report survey is the sensitivity and reliability of the instrument. This research examines the effects of a positive (right) centred scale on the distribution and reliability of satisfaction responses in a positive respondent population. A total of 216 participants were randomly assigned to one of the following three experimental Likert scale conditions: 5–point equal interval balanced scale; 5–point positive (right) packed scale; 5–point positive (right) centred scale. The distribution of responses occurred in the direction hypothesized. Comparable discrimination was found across the three conditions. Although, the study findings did not prove to be significant, the equal interval balanced scale produced the lowest mean score, contrary to previous research findings.

The purpose of this study was to examine the differences between the traditional global rating scale and a new behavioral rating scale in a university-based assessment center. It was hypothesized that personality factors, as measured by the 16PF and associated with the global ratings of performance would differ from those associated with the behavioral ratings of performance. It was further hypothesized that the associated personality factors would also differ for males and females. These hypotheses were ^confirmed. Pearson correlations were computed for ratings of males, females, and all subjects combined on both global and behavioral rating scales.

A Validity Study of the Childhood Autism Rating Scale with Autistic Adolescents: Two Methods

Autistic symptoms appear to change during adolescence. This study replicates an earlier one (McCallon, 1985) which attempted to validate the use of the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) with adolescents. The standard observation method of administration was used. Additionally, information obtained in structured parent interviews was used to score a CARS. Subjects were nine autistic and nine nonautistic retarded adolescents from 13 to 21 years of age. Results suggested that the CARS, administered either way, validity discriminates between retarded adolescents who are diagnosed as autistic and those with other handicaps. Methodological limitations of the present study are discussed.

Psykometriska egenskaper hos Affektiv självskattningsskala, AS-18, för patienter med bipolär sjukdom, typ I och typ II

I syfte att undersöka psykometriska egenskaper hos Affektiv självskattningsskala (AS-18) fyllde 88 patienter med diagnos bipolär typ I (N=46) eller typ II (N=42) i självskattningsskalorna AS-18 och MADRS-S vid två tillfällen med en dags mellanrum. Principalkomponentsanalys för AS-18 genomfördes med extrahering av två komponenter. Items laddade i de delskalor de tillhörde. Intern konsistens mättes med Cronbachs alfa och överensstämmelse med Cohens kappa. Test-retest-reliabiliteten beräknades. Grupperna bipolär typ I och typ II skiljde sig inte åt, vid rutinuppföljningsbesök, vad gäller skattning av mani eller depression. Studien gällande AS-18 visade att faktorstrukturen från tidigare studier kunde bekräftas, att test-retest-reliabiliteten var hög och att AS-18 är användbar även för patienter med bipolär typ II-diagnos. The Development of Self-action Control Questionnaire

The purpose of this study s to construct a questionnaire about Self-action control of Academic Performance for college students based on Kuhl and Kraska (1989) action control theory. The sampling method of this study used purposive sampling, randomly selected from the freshman or sophomore students to various departments of Sun Yat-sen University, with a total of 409 examinees. After four expert validity, experts on the appropriateness of the questionnaire with content review and suggest modifications to draw the contents of the pre-test about 78 items . Measuring method is adopted online computer systems connection randomly selected to scale the three dimensions of 10 questions given to the college students. The contents of the Scale have three dimensions, pre-analysis of the results of the RSM mode in the ConQuest software, there are 11 questions beyond the adaptation target range, and finally the good adaptation of Formal items are 67 items. The overall item difficulty is too easy. The results of the three sub-scale reliability are 0.62, 0.65 and 0.53. Based on the findings, it is recommended more difficult items can be included to the questionnaire in the future. developed.

A cohort study on prematurity as an indicator of autistic symptom severity

Using the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) database of the Department of Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine of The University of Hong Kong, a retrospective cohort study was carried out exploring the relationship between prematurity and symptom severity by using Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS). The premature group was found to have no significant difference in total CARS score as compared to the full term group, and no significant correlation was found between CARS score and gestational age [GA] (for children diagnosed or with suspected ASDs). Significantly higher numbers of the premature group (GA 37 weeks, N = 130) had multiple births, family history of ASDs or related disorders, pre/perinatal complications, as well as a significantly lower mean birth weight as compared to the full term group (GA > 37 weeks, N = 683). Mean total CARS score of very premature cases (M = 32.20, SD = 6.29) was found to be 2 points lower than mean total CARS score of those that were full term (GA > 37 weeks [M = 34.08, SD = 6.53]). However, the result was not statistically significant by unpaired t-test analysis. Therefore, results in this cohort show no relationship between prematurity and CARS score of children with ASDs, however further studies should be carried out in order to better validate existing findings. / published_or_final_version / Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine / Master / Master of Medical Sciences
