Influence of variations in ceramic thickness and bonding substrate on the fracture resistance of lithium disilicate restorations

van Lierop, Jean January 2017 (has links)
Magister Scientiae Dentium - MSc(Dent) / Restorative dentistry aims to replace lost or damaged tooth structure with durable and life-like alternatives. To accommodate the inherent limitations and weakness of the restorative materials, preparation techniques often require the sacrifice of healthy tooth structure to create enough restorative space. This can lead to weakening of the remaining tooth structure, with subsequent damage or catastrophic failure. When using indirect restoratives, the development of adhesive luting agents (adhesive cements) and stronger allporcelain restorations (lithium disilicate) has contributed to the development of “minimally invasive” preparation techniques and concepts such as cavity design optimization (CDO) and bio-substitution. With these techniques, resin materials are combined with ceramic restoratives in an attempt to not only produce strong restorations, but also increase the longevity of the remaining tooth. The clinician needs to therefore find the ideal preparation design that combine such materials to produces a clinically performing restoration while increasing the strength and longevity of the underlying tooth.

An investigation into repairability of upholstered furniture and a solution to a common problem

Mogefors, Pia January 2020 (has links)
Today, we are seeing an increasingly clear trend of moving away from the "wear and tear" mentality in society. In the furniture industry, efforts are increasingly being made to support the circular economy. Definitions for what constitutes criteria that describe factors in circularity are still undetermined, such as "longevity", "durability" and "repairability". In my work I try to answer the question how repairability as a quality in the new production of upholstery furniture can be described and what could be done to further strengthen this capacity? The work is in part based on interviews of selected Swedish furniture manufacturers and a number of furniture upholstery masters in the Stockholm area with long craftsmanship experience. The furniture manufacturers that I interviewed produce quality products and have in various ways implemented repairability in their furniture design. In the report I describe how the furniture industry continues to develop repairability as part of its business model. In my work I also show that there are creative solutions and methods to simplify renovation of furniture upholstery that have not yet been tried. This part of the work was carried out on a prototype armchair and led to a method that simplifies and limits the number of steps and working hours. The solution means that you can easily replace the padding and it also includes a proposal for a "spare part" in the form of a ready-made cushion. Thus, the cost of refurbishing the furniture of a furniture upholsterer should be reduced - alternatively, the tasks will be so simple that a more handy customer can make them themselves. With this work, I wish to participate in a furniture culture which contributes to a more sustainable future.

A Modular Solution for Land Compasses : A new design that minimizes the number of components and contributes to a sustainable compass assortment / En modulär lösning för landkompasser : En ny design som minimerar antalet komponenter och främjar ett hållbart kompassortiment

Widén, Felicia, Åberg, Linus January 2023 (has links)
This report presents a master’s thesis in Industrial Design Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. The project was conducted on behalf of Silva Sweden AB during the spring of 2023, with the goal of modularizing Silva’s current assortment of land compasses. The objectives included reducing the number of components and improving repairability while contributing to Silva’s sustainability framework. Additional objectives were to redesign vital components in order to enable a modular system that is implementable in a circular business model, benefiting both customers and Silva. The methodology of this project included researching, collecting data, mapping, testing and evaluating, ideating, developing, finalizing and communicating. Moreover, the focuses of this project have been the development of baseplates, the compass housing assembly and the mirror attachment. The final design and new compass assortment resulted in a reduction of 40 % of the total components. The most influencing factors for the reduction, besides standardization, were an improved housing assembly and a solution that joins the regular baseplate with a detachable mirror through a snap fit. In relation to the purpose of this project, all objectives are concluded as fulfilled as well as the deliverables which are successfully achieved as well. In conclusion, the result of this project provides a new and modular compass design that minimizes the number of components while contributing to the development of a sustainable compass assortment.

Synthesis, environmental degradation and repairability of slurry aluminium coatings elaborated on steels employed in power plants / Synthèse, dégradation environnementale et réparabilité de revêtements de diffusion d’aluminium élaborés sur aciers utilisés dans les centrales de production d’énergie

Boulesteix, Claire 23 November 2017 (has links)
Higher energy efficiencies can be achieved by the increase of temperatures and pressures in power plant, thus allowing the reduction of the polluting emissions. Therefore, more efficient materials, compared to those currently employed, have to be used in order to resist to harsh environmental conditions (high temperatures, steam, pressure…). Despite of the good mechanical properties of many steels, the elaboration of a protective coating able to form a dense, protective and stable oxide layer at high temperature, is necessary. Thus, in the framework of the “POEMA” European project, the mechanisms of the formation of aluminium diffusion coatings were studied on ferritic-martensitic and austenitic stainless steels that are currently employed in power plants. The sealing of cracks eventually created during the aluminisation of steels was also studied. The degradation mechanisms of the B2-(Fe (Ni))Al coatings were then studied in steam and in air at 650 and 700°C up to 10000 hours and under different pressures (1 and 300 bar). We have demonstrated that the pre-oxidation induced during the elaboration of coatings grew a thin protective oxide scale composed of α-Al2O3 which developed further upon oxidation. Nevertheless, the long exposures under high steam pressures promoted the cationic diffusion of Fe, thus allowing the formation of small surface oxide nodules. Finally, the dissolution mechanisms of coatings with a diluted acid have been studied in order to demonstrate the possibility of strip and realuminise the materials initially coated.

Entwicklung angepasster Konstruktionsmethoden für nachhaltige Hochvolt-Speicher

Kretschmann, Robert, Wagenhaus, Gerd, Beyer, Christiane 09 September 2021 (has links)
