pouco conhecido no meio acadêmico e informacional.
The present research examined the role of an institutional repository as a new informational
environment for housing and disseminating scientific information; produced in the field of
research institutions of Science and Technology, by highlighting the purpose of reuse of
information and by electing Instituto de Comunicação e Informação Científica e Tecnológica
em Saúde (Icict) / Fiocruz as a privileged space of research. The transformations in scholarly
communication due to the advent of the Internet called for a literature review, which included
authors of classical studies on scientific communication, as well as authors who examine
these changes in today’s society, considering issues such as the movements for open access
and digital repository as a political strategy of these movements. Central to these changes, we
sought to focus on the concept of reuse of information in its various meanings. Besides Icict,
two other repositories were taken as an empirical field research experience, one implemented
at Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) / Brazil and another from the
Universidade do Minho / Portugal. For the data collection, questionnaires were applied to
teachers who coordinated courses or modules in the post-graduation lato sensu courses of
Icict and two interviews were conducted with the managers of the other listed repositories. As
a result, it was observed that the institutional repository, although it is a new informational
space, has a wide acceptance in the literature and by important actors in the field. It is
indicated however, that detailed issues such as copyright and self-archiving should also be
addressed. This was confirmed by the scientific literature and by other significant actors of
academia and research. As for the reuse of information, it was observed that the theme was
recognized as relevant, but poorly focused on by the literature of Information Science and
little is known in the academic and informational fields. However, it was noted that the
importance of reuse has been recognized as a support for teaching activities. In this way, these
teaching activities may benefit from the repository and by the reuse of information. We
consider, therefore, that the issue of reuse is a rich field to be explored by studies of the area
of Science Information.

Analysis of Habitual Patterns in Vernacular MovementJanuary 2016 (has links)
abstract: This thesis aims to explore the language of different bodies in the field of dance by analyzing
the habitual patterns of dancers from different backgrounds and vernaculars. Contextually,
the term habitual patterns is defined as the postures or poses that tend to re-appear,
often unintentionally, as the dancer performs improvisational dance. The focus lies in exposing
the movement vocabulary of a dancer to reveal his/her unique fingerprint.
The proposed approach for uncovering these movement patterns is to use a clustering
technique; mainly k-means. In addition to a static method of analysis, this paper uses
an online method of clustering using a streaming variant of k-means that integrates into
the flow of components that can be used in a real-time interactive dance performance. The
computational system is trained by the dancer to discover identifying patterns and therefore
it enables a feedback loop resulting in a rich exchange between dancer and machine. This
can help break a dancer’s tendency to create similar postures, explore larger kinespheric
space and invent movement beyond their current capabilities.
This paper describes a project that distinguishes itself in that it uses a custom database
that is curated for the purpose of highlighting the similarities and differences between various
movement forms. It puts particular emphasis on the process of choosing source movement
qualitatively, before the technological capture process begins. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Computer Science 2016

spread and preserve it. Therefore we have the concept of institutional repositories. The
repositories developed by higher education institutions display works of academic
character and doctoral thesis, master's dissertations and scientific articles. However,
other types of production, as the technical one, can also be added to a repository. This
study aimed to identify the types of technical productions existing in the Federal
University of São Carlos, in which the technical productions elaborated by university
professors and the technical administrative production was highlighted. To identify
these technical productions, the Lattes Platform was used, which developed by CNPq
and provides access and standardization of academic and professional records of the
researches who work in the Brazilian territory. The scriptLattes tool was used to extract
and visualize the data obtained from the curriculums. The period analyzed was from
1968 to September 2016. From the 1.296 professors at the Federal University of São
Carlos, 1.291 have Lattes curriculum. The extraction of the professors' data resulted
in 24.832 productions. From the 1.014 administrative technicians of the Federal

Learning Objects are important resources to give opportunity to the learning according to their modular character, this way they may offer conditions to an activity supported by allocated resources by requests to the specific needs of a class or of an individual student. This characteristic is a beneficial and facilitator element, but it adds an aspect which makes its use difficult due to the learning object’s location difficulty appropriated to the specific needs. As a result, there is significant research effort of strategies in order to facilitate the location and the access to the Learning Objects (LO) adequate to the students and teachers’ needs, because the difficulty in order to perform these processes causes a decrease in the frequency of use and reuse from these ones in activities of teaching and learning. The usual place to store these resources is a Learning Objects Repository (LOR). However, the use of learning objects occurs more frequently in the Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs). Due to these findings, this study researched the strategies to integrate a Learning Objects Repository to a Virtual Learning Environment and how this integration may support the teacher and the student at the construction and adaptation of teaching and learning plan. The present thesis shows a theoretical frame about the Learning Objects Repository and Virtual Learning Environments and some solutions taken to integrate these systems. In addition, it proposes a integration model of repositories to VLEs and it describes its implementation as well as the results from the use of the integrating solution built. The systems chosen to validate the deployed model were the repository CESTA2 and the VLE MOODLE. The main hypothesis is that the integration of the systems allows that the Learning Objects may be more easily added by the teacher to the VLE at the learning unit planning to a subject our course and it allows that these resources be advised by the teacher to the student in several learning situations previously outlined in each learning unit or the ones which arises along the course. At this point of view the solution proposed aims to create conditions so that the LOs may be researched and used by the students through available tools at own VLE. In order to validate the integration were done case studies with students and teachers from two classes of Relational Database Project subject from the Instituto Federal Sul-rio-grandense, Pelotas Campus. Differently from other studies done about the topic and described at this thesis, this study focuses on the environment integration with the technological purpose in order to verify the interoperability presented between them and as teaching purpose to verify how this integration may help teachers and students. The assessment and validation performed through case study with teachers and students showed that the proposed and evidenced model meets the expectations and may support teachers and students in their teaching and learning activities, respectively. Furthermore, the study from this thesis brings important contributions to the educational institutions that use the DSpace free software as institutional repository and the MOODLE as Institutional VLE, showing how these two systems may be integrated allowing to their users all the benefits that this integration may offer.

An Exploratory Study on Exception Handling Bugs in Java ProgramsEbert, Felipe 02 August 2013 (has links)
Several studies argue that exception handling code is usually of poor quality and that it
is commonly neglected by developers. Moreover, it is said to be the least understood,
documented, and tested part of the implementation of a system. In spite of this scenario,
there are very few studies that analyze the actual exception handling bugs that occur in
real software systems and no study that attempts to understand developers’ perceptions
about these bugs.
In this work we present an exploratory study on exception handling bugs that employs
two complementary approaches: a survey of 154 developers and an analysis of
220 bugs from the repositories of Eclipse and Tomcat. Respondents of our survey believe
that exception handling bugs are more easily fixed than other kinds of bugs. There
is also a significant difference in the opinion of the respondents pertaining to the quality
of the exception handling code: more experienced developers tend to believe that it is
worse.
Analysis of the repositories of Eclipse and Tomcat revealed conflicting results. The
fix time for exception handling bugs in Eclipse is significantly shorter than for other
bugs. However, exception handling bugs have a significantly greater number of discussion
messages than non-exception handling bugs. On the other hand, for Tomcat, we
could not find a significant difference for fix time and exception handling bugs have
significantly less discussion messages than other bugs.
Moreover, we discovered that bug reports describing bugs stemming from overly
general catch blocks, a well-known bad smell in programs that use exceptions, are
rare, even though there are many opportunities for them to occur. In addition, empty
catch blocks are not only prevalent, as previously reported in literature, but they are
also commonly used as part of bug fixes, which includes fixes for exception handling
bugs. Furthermore, we found very few bug reports whose causes are empty catch
blocks, although developers often mention them as causes of bugs they have fixed in the
past. And lastly, we present a proposal of the classification of exception handling bugs
based on the data we collected. / Submitted by João Arthur Martins (joao.arthur@ufpe.br) on 2015-03-10T18:18:46Z

Previous issue date: 2015-08-24 / Energy consumption has been gaining traction as yet another major concern that mainstream software developers must be aware of. It used to be mainly the focus of hardware designers and low level software developers, e.g., device driver developers. Nowadays, however, mostly due to the ubiquity of battery-powered devices, any developer in the software stack must be prepared to deal with this concern. Thus, to be able to properly assist them and to provide guidance in future research it is crucial to understand how they have been handling this matter. This thesis aims to aid in this regard by exploring a set of software changes, i.e., commits, to obtain insights into actual solutions implemented by open source developers when dealing with energy consumption. We use as our main data source GITHUB, a source code hosting platform for collaborative development, and extract a sample of the available commits across several different projects. From this sample, we manually curate a set of energy-aware commits, that is, any commit that refers to a source code change where developers intentionally modify, or aim to modify, the energy consumption (or power dissipation) of a system or make it easier for other developers or end users to do so. We then apply a qualitative research method to extract recurring patterns of information and to group the commits that intend to save energy into categories. A small survey was also conducted to assess the quality of our analysis and to further expand our understanding of the changes. During our analysis we also cover different aspects of the commits. We observe that the majority of the changes (~47%) still target lower levels of the software stack, i.e., kernels, drivers and OS-related services, while application level changes encompass ~34% of them. We notice that developers may not always be certain of the energy consumption impact of their changes before actually performing them, among our dataset we identify several instances (~12%) of commits where developers show signs of uncertainty towards their change’s effectiveness. We also highlight the possible software quality attributes that may be favored over energy efficiency. Notably, we spot a few instances of commits where developers performed a change that would negatively impact the energy consumption of the system in order to fix a bug. It is also worth noting, we draw attention to a specific group of changes which we call "energy-aware interfaces". They add tuning knobs that can be used by developers or end users to control the energy consumption of an underlying component.

Evaluate methods for managing distributed source changesLaitala, Christer January 2008 (has links)
In larger developments, a use of configuration management is crucial; the company UIQ Technology is no exception. The configuration management method controls how the flow within a software developer should go, so the configuration management method and code complexity is something that works affects each other. Therefore, you might be able to combine multiple configuration methods to try to use the best from each method to decrease code complexity. That is the goal of this thesis, to see if the COTS, Single repository or Component Based could combine with the UIQ method to decrease code complexity. This have been tested through theoretical use cases for each method and the conclusion of the study is that, Single repository and Component Based works best in the UIQ method. However, COTS is not suited for the UIQ method because of the need of secrecy for large parts of the UIQ platform. UIQ wants to do as much as possible in-house, rather than give it out to other third-party companies that they are not in absolute need of. Some improvements have been achieved throughout Single repository, that the other third-parties companies needs to be upto- date before starting development, that is something that have not been valued before.

An Analysis of a Content of a Method Chunk Repository concerning Interoperability ProblemsOttosson, Andreas January 2005 (has links)
The increasing complexity of Information Systems (IS) calls for IS development methods to be adapted to the specific situations of the projects at hand. Method engineering is important because it focus on the creation of new methods that can be used in the system development process with the aim of constructing new information systems. The size and complexity of projects for developing information systems are becoming larger and more complicated. Therefore, development methods turn out to be one of the most significant key factors to achieve great success of development projects. The discipline of Situational Method Engineering (SME) focuses on the creation of new project specific methods. SME is a reuse strategy to assemble reusable method fragments or method chunks originating from different methods. New methods can be constructed from a method repository by selecting the chunks that are the most appropriate to a given situation. Thus, method chunks are the basic building blocks for constructing methods in a modular way. This dissertation have identified, analyzed and categorized a set of interoperability problems for the content of a method chunk repository. These problems have been represented as a set of patterns. The patterns will facilitate the understanding of specific interoperability problems that belong to a specific method chunk. If we are aware of the different interoperability problems that exist it is more likely that we can use a method chunk successfully within the context of SME.
