The syndemic effects of intimate partner violence, substance use, and depression on HIV risk among Indonesian women who inject drugs : findings from the Women Speak Out study

Stoicescu, Claudia January 2017 (has links)
Background: Women who inject drugs face vast disparities in health outcomes relative to their counterparts in the general population, most notably in HIV. Intimate partner violence (IPV) victimisation has a detrimental individual effect on women's HIV risk behaviour. Furthermore, IPV often co-occurs with substance use and poor mental health among women in high-income countries, but little is known about the cumulative and interactive effects of these conditions on women's HIV risk behaviour in low- and middle-income countries. This thesis applied an ecological approach guided primarily by syndemics theory to understand influences on women's HIV behavioural outcomes. It examined associations and mechanisms linking IPV, substance use, and depression, with HIV sexual and injecting risk outcomes in the first quantitative study of Indonesian women who inject drugs, the Women Speak Out study. Methods: This study combined community-based participatory approaches and extensive formative research with quantitative survey methods. 731 women, ≥18 years of age, and injecting illicit drugs in the preceding year were recruited using respondent-driven sampling (RDS) from urban settings in Greater Jakarta and Bandung, Indonesia. Network characteristics of the sample were assessed using the RDS software package for Stata 14. Data were analysed using multivariate logistic regressions, marginal effects models, and interaction analyses on the additive and multiplicative scales. The study was conducted in collaboration with the Indonesian Drug User Network. Results: Paper 1: Past-year IPV victimisation doubled the odds of engaging in one or more sexual HIV risk behaviours. Several covariates were associated with higher odds of sexual risk behaviour: HIV-positive status, non-injection crystal methamphetamine (crystal meth) use, low educational attainment, younger age, and being single. Co-occurrence of psychological, physical and/or injurious, and sexual forms of IPV had cumulative effects: sexual risk behaviour was reported by 62% of women who did not experience any form of IPV, but increased to 89% among those exposed to all three forms. Paper 2: Past-year IPV elevated women's odds of receptive syringe sharing. These effects remained after controlling for socio-demographic confounders. Two covariates, injecting illicit pharmaceuticals (vs heroin only) and housing instability and/or homelessness, remained associated with receptive syringe sharing in multivariate analyses. Paper 3: More than 1 in 4 women experienced concurrent IPV, depressive symptoms, and crystal meth use. All three exposures had independent negative effects on HIV sexual risk outcomes. The co-occurrence of all three factors produced a 4-fold increase in rates of survival sex work, 5-fold increase in STI symptomatology, and a 7-fold increase in inconsistent condom use. The joint effect of depressive symptoms and crystal meth use together was greater than the product of the estimated effects of each exposure alone on STI symptomatology, indicating an interaction on the multiplicative scale. Statistically-significant positive additive interaction was detected between IPV victimisation and crystal meth on inconsistent condom use; depression and crystal meth on STI symptomatology and on survival sex work; and IPV and depression on STI symptomatology and survival sex work. Conclusion: This thesis provides new evidence of the individual and cumulative effects of IPV, methamphetamine use, and depression on HIV risk outcomes among Indonesian women who inject drugs. The interaction analyses are the first to empirically test the assertion that these co-occurring conditions interact synergistically to increase drug-using women's HIV risk. This thesis furthers our understanding of how syndemics function within women who inject drugs to produce health disparities, and contributes to the problem theory for HIV risk behaviour in this population. The findings of this study have great public health significance and important implications for future longitudinal research, interventions, and policy.

Lietuvos žemės ūkio konsultavimo tarnybos įvaizdžio formavimas / Development of Corporate Image of Lithuanian agricultural advisory service

Dereškevičius, Arūnas 29 May 2006 (has links)
The conclusions of those studies is that the heads of service should focus not only on the management or marketing of the products, but also on corporate identity and corporate communication as well. The corporate identity and corporate communication are very close related with the image-building of advisory services. The signals from audiences create correct market perception for the service when it is not commensurate with market share. Well developed corporate image of the service minimize the risk of relations with staff, customers and suppliers, governmental institutions, press and other institutions or persons which could have influence on activity of the service – in other words for strategic plans.

Chování spotřebitelů při výběru prodejny pro nákup potravin / Consumer behaviour when choosing a store for food purchase

HAVLÍČKOVÁ, Daniela January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with consumer behaviour when choosing a store for food purchase. The main aim is to evaluate the importance of individual factors that play role in the selection of grocery store using a questionnaire survey. Secondary goals are to characterize how consumers currently behave in the selection of the store and to confirm or disprove established hypotheses. The thesis is divided into two main parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with issues related to the topic of the work, the practical part focuses on the marketing research itself, through which all the goals of this work have been fulfilled. As a method of collecting the primary data an electronic questionnaire was used. The data obtained were evaluated using MS Excel and "R" program. Based on the findings possible recommendations for the retailers are also formulated at the end of the practical part.

Hodnocení tazatelů v marketingových výzkumech / Evaluation of the inquirers in market research

Macura, Milan January 2010 (has links)
This Diploma work is focused on evaluation options of quality of inquirer work in marketing research. Assigned task was founding proper indicators, which will help the agencies to assess if and how much the inquirers fulfill the requirements laid on them. First part contains the description of known standards and biases, which occur during marketing research. Bias indicators, which were the main goal to identify and formalize, are described in the second part. These indicators can serve as a guide to expose low quality inquirers. The constituent part of this work is an example of data analysis of real project, where the construction of some of these indicators has been described. This analysis confirmed the assumption that the data analysis should be inseparable part of every marketing research project, because low quality and cheating inquirers can be exposed on its base. Results presentation and suggestions for better checking of the data obtained by the inquirers in the field can help agencies to obtain more quality data and therefore make better and more trustable conclusions of market research projects.

Souvislost charakteristik tazatele a odpovědí respondenta při face to face interview / Connection between charasteristics of an interviewer and respondet's answers in face to face interviews

Strnadová, Mirka January 2015 (has links)
This diploma thesis shows a connection between an interviewer's demographic characteristics and a respondent's answers during a face-to-face interview. The analysis uses the American data from General Social Survey and the Czech data from CVVM. The monitored variables are sex, age, education and the size of place. On the ground of the theory of interpersonal communication, social distance and stereotypical answers to certain questions the following questions were chosen to be analysed: the willingness to have certain group of people as neighbours, opinions on marihuana, the death penalty, abortions and homosexuals. The analysis proves that the interviewer's demographic characteristics do influence the answers to some of these questions. However there is no set of rules that could prove which particular characteristics would influence which particular questions. The methods used in this thesis are correlational analysis, binary logistic regression and an advanced mixed models analysis. The next part consists of a qualitative research, which uses a fictional face-to-face interviews and following cognitive interviews with respondents. This part shows the importance of the actual question because when the respondent answers a certain question for the first time he is more likely to be influenced by the...

Úprava obrazu a zvuku ve zpravodajství s cílem znesnadnění identifikace osob (na příkladu hlavních zpravodajských relací České televize, TV Nova a FTV Prima) / Adjusting the television picture and sound in newscast to make it more difficult to identify people (newscast of Česká televize, TV Nova and FTV Prima)

Sváček, Martin January 2016 (has links)
The Diploma Thesis deals - within its theoretical part - with situations in TV news, which require conversion of audiovisual content to achieve involved person's anonymity. Ethics codes of analysed television stations are major factor in this part, also included as secondary support relavant studies, reference books, laws and edicts. Conversion of audiovisual content is necessary - speaking of victims of crime (mainly violent or sexual offense) and theirs relatives, children, suspects and theirs relatives, anonymous sources, some criminalists or other vulnerable persons. Practical part of the thesis applies gained informations to analyse audio-visual recordings - broadcasted by Czech TV (Česká televize), TV Nova and FTV Prima. Study reflected diffrences between conversion of same situations and same persons. Study also reflected some ethically controversial moments. Several reporters gived an interview to comment selected news.
