Web Development Frameworks : Ruby on Rails VS Google Web Toolkit

Gallardo Salas, Carlos, Extremera Sánchez, Adrián January 2011 (has links)
Web programming is getting more and more important every day and as a consequence, many new tools are created in order to help developers design and construct applications quicker, easier and better structured. Apart from different IDEs and Technologies, nowadays Web Frameworks are gaining popularity amongst users since they offer a large range of methods, classes, etc. that allow programmers to create and maintain solid Web systems. This research focuses on two different Web Frameworks: Ruby on Rails and Google Web Toolkit and within this document we will examine some of the most important differences between them during a Web development.

Evaluation of Plugin Frameworks for the Jenkins Continuous Integration Build Server

Christensen, Jens, Ekstedt, Jonatan January 2012 (has links)
The concept Continuous Integration (CI) is vital to many companies today in their product development. These companies may have specific demands on their CI-software, depending on how they are using it and what their development environment looks like. Jenkins is a software that is used for CI, it is open source and it has a wide support for plugins. There is a great selection of plugins available today, but it is not certain these plugins satisfy the specific requirements. It is therefore interesting to, in a quick way, develop plugins that meet these conditions. In this report, we have evaluated the possibility to develop plugins for Jenkins in Ruby. In the last year or so, plugin development in Ruby has been growing to become a viable option. The framework is still at a very early stage, but it is constructed in such a way so that one can always fall back on the language Jenkins was made in;; Java. Because of this it’s definitely possible to write plugins in Ruby. Ruby is an expressive language and it is easy to learn, the complexity that comes with writing plugins in Java for Jenkins is largely hidden in the Ruby framework. Our conclusion is that Ruby is ready to be used for plugin development for Jenkins. This thesis is divided into two parts, an evaluation of the frameworks and the tools for Java and Ruby, and a development phase where we concrete our analysis. The Ruby plugin that is developed in this thesis can be seen as proof-of-concept, it can also be used as a kind of template for future plugin development at Autoliv.

Využití Ruby on Rails pro podporu týmové spolupráce vývojářů / Using Ruby on Rails for supporting team collaboration of developers

Hofmann, Petr January 2008 (has links)
Thema of this master thesis is Using Ruby on Rails for support of team collaboration of developers. The main objective is support of team collaboration of developers (students of programming courses) at the Catedry of Computer Science of the University of Economics Prague. The objective has been acomplished by developement of a new application in Ruby on Rails on the school server kitscm.vse.cz. This application is used for support of team collaboration. Application automatizes some of procedures, which were made on the server kitscm.vse.cz manually in the past. Application collaborates with another open-source applications (openldap, dokuwiki, subversion) running on the kitscm.vse.cz server. After the introduction (chapter 1), follows familiarization with Ruby and Ruby on Rails (chapter 2), analysis and design of the application (chapter 3), familirization with application operational architecture (chapter 4) and example of development of part of the application (chapter 5). Main benefit is an application supporting team collaboration, which is used by students and teachers. The whole application is available on http://sourceforge.net/projects/kitscm/ under GPL license.

Documenting against erasure : deindustrialization and the camera in the work of LaToya Ruby Frazier

Zelt, Natalie Marie 01 October 2014 (has links)
Amid contemporary catastrophizing about industry and the practice of photography, American artist LaToya Ruby Frazier began her photographic series Notion of Family (2002 to present) as a means of documenting the effects of economic and environmental decline in Braddock, Pennsylvania. Located nine miles south of Pittsburgh and the site of Andrew Carnegie’s first steel mill, the contemporary landscape of Braddock and the experience of its citizens mark a liminal place between the stark abandonment of completely deindustrialized sites and a continued battle with the environmental and social effects of surviving in industry’s wake. By photographing herself, her mother, her grandmother, and cousins and documenting the vicissitudes of her lived experience, Frazier uses the camera to resist real and insidious attempts at the erasure from the landscape and history of Braddock and from photographic discourse. Her work is a complex form of autobiography generated to be both representative of herself and to speak to a larger narrative about the impact of deindustrialization on marginalized communities. She uses the historical tension between absence and presence to make histories, realities and subjectivities present against the cultural and environmental forces striving to render them absent. / text

Blog on Rails

Khan, Junaid January 2010 (has links)
<p>Communication handicap has been observed between student and supervisor during research work owing to various reasons; unavailability of any party on desired time, distance etc. Web base platform could be a solution to these communication problems in that, students can get guidance and feedback from their supervisors in easy, time-effective, cost-effective way. Students could upload his/ her problems, questions on the forum and supervisors would read from that platform and give suggestions, advices and recommendations to students. In this way, supervisors can check students’ progress at any given time slice and students would also get timely feedback. My project is based on Ruby on Rails (RoR), it is a web-base platform, students and supervisor can communicate by this platform without face to face meeting.</p>

González Riquelme, Rodrigo Andrés January 2015 (has links)

The Universal Sports Database

Chang, Lawrence January 2008 (has links)
Thesis advisor: David R. Martin / With vast amounts of data in the world, organization becomes a challenge. The success of data driven web services (IMDb, YouTube, Google Maps, Wikipedia, et cetera) all hinge on their ability to present information in an intuitive manner with user friendly interfaces. One area that fails to have such a service is sports statistics. With the ubiquitous appeal of sports, having a solution to this problem can be universally beneficial. Many sites exist that have statistics of different sports, but there are limitations to all of them. Since there is very little continuity among all sports, statistics are represented disparately. There are several problems with this approach. Any time there needs to be a change to the informational structure, the entire database and interface need to change. In addition, there can never be a single interface if there are different schemas for different sports, leading to a user unfriendly interface. My system uses a unique schema that is capable of representing statistics from any sport, no matter how unique. Adding new statistics to a sport to reflect rule changes or adding a new sport altogether are seamless. In addition, the web interface is structured by Rails, which changes automatically with the schema.Challenges included developing a universal sports schema and testing it sufficiently enough to prove its generality. Finding and extracting the data to populate the database also presented difficulties. / Thesis (BS) — Boston College, 2008. / Submitted to: Boston College.
