Estudo das propriedades opto-eletrônicas de micro-cristais de rubi / Study of opto-electronics properties of ruby micro-crystals

Cossolino, Leiliane Cristina 25 February 2010 (has links)
Films of amorphous aluminum-nitride (AlN) were prepared by conventional radio frequency sputtering of an Al+Cr target in a plasma of pure nitrogen. The Cr-to-Al relative area determines the chromium content, which stayed in the ~ 0 3.33 at.% concentration range in the present study. Film deposition was followed by thermal annealing the samples up to 1050 ºC and by spectroscopic characterization through energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), Photo-luminescence and Optical Transmission measurements. According to the experimental results, the optical-electronic properties of the Cr-containing AlN films are highly influenced by both the Cr concentration and the temperature of the thermal treatments. In fact, thermal annealing at 1050 °C induces the development of structures which, because of their typical size and unique spectral characteristics, were designated by ruby microstructures (RbMS\'s). These RbMS\'s are surrounded by a nitrogen-rich environment in which Cr3+ ions exhibit luminescent features with no counterpart in the literature. The light emission presented by the RbMS\'s and surroundings were investigated according to the Cr content and temperature of measurement allowing the identification of several Cr3+-related luminescent lines. The main characteristics of these luminescent lines and corresponding excitation-recombination processes are presented and discussed in view of a detailed spectroscopic analysis.

The Icon Formation of Ruby Bridges Within Hegemonic Memory of the Civil Rights Movement

Cashion, Katherine 01 January 2019 (has links)
In 1960, when Ruby Bridges was six-years-old, she desegregated the formerly all white William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans, Louisiana. This thesis traces her formation as a Civil Rights icon and how her icon narratives are influenced by, perpetuate, or challenge hegemonic memory of the Civil Rights Movement. The hegemonic narrative situates the Civil Rights Movement as a triumphant moment of the past, and is based upon the belief that it abolished institutionalized racism, leaving us in a world where lingering prejudice is the result of the failings of individuals. Analysis of narratives about Ruby Bridges by Norman Rockwell, Robert Coles, and Bridges herself show that there is a consistent shift over time in which the icon narratives conform to and reinforce the hegemonic narrative. These icon narratives situate Bridges’ story as a historical account of the past that teaches lessons of how to combat instances of interpersonal racism through kindness and tolerance, and obscures Bridges’ lived experience. These reductive stories demonstrate just how powerful the hegemonic narrative is and create a comforting morality tale that pervades dominant culture and prevents us from understanding and finding ways to combat the institutionalized racism and inequality that still exists within the United States.

Conjugação de fase por degenerada de quatro ondas em rubi e GdAlO3:Cr+3 / Phase conjugation by degenerate four-wave mixing in ruby and GdAlO3:Cr+3

Tomaz Catunda 31 October 1984 (has links)
We have studied the effect of Phase Conjugation by Degenerate Four Wave Mixing in Al2O3:Cr+3 (Rubi) and GdAlO3:Cr+3 with an Ar (λ=5145 Å). We obtained efficiency ?approximately? 4 times greater in GdAlO3:Cr+3 (where this work is original) than in Rubi and this have motivated us to investigate the physical properties that are important to explain this phenomenon in these materials (what wasn\'t well understood in the previous paper on Rubi(10)). We developed an interferometric method very sensitive to measure the nonlinear coeficient of refractive index n2 of these materials (what wasn\'t known). With these values of n2 we calculated the efficiency of the Phase Conjugation in good agreement with the experience.

Theodoro Júnior, Marcelo Brandão 13 November 2012 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 4801.pdf: 4117819 bytes, checksum: b4df67024157ee1a2c79256315a97e7d (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-11-13 / Universidade Federal de Sao Carlos / Software development techniques continually evolve in order to improve development and maintenance processes in addition to lower costs and higher quality. The goal of MDD is to reduce the semantic distance between a problem and its solution specification. Therefore MDD focuses on high-level abstraction modeling and successive model transformations, until finally, generate code. Studies assert that model-driven development can be significantly more efficient than traditional source code-driven software development and still reduce the possibility of occurrence of several problems during the software life-cycle. Likewise, Web engineering can also be benefited by MDD adoption, especially when supported by approaches that facilitate MDD use. Web development is usually agile with frequent releases, these approaches must be flexible to adapt to this context. However, generally, the approaches proposed by the academic community have complex processes which involve many different model definitions, programming languages, plug-ins and IDEs. These features contradict the practices adopted by Web developers. This paper presents the MWDA (Model-Driven Web Applications) approach that provides a simple process to support model-driven web development. This approach does not depend on tools, technologies or plug-ins and encourage combination with other forms of reuse and development processes. Furthermore, the Ruby- MDWA was developed with Ruby language and Ruby on Rails framework support, in order to create Web applications with MDWA assistance. This tool provides a set of textual models and defines M2M and M2C transformation tools, maintaining the requirements traceability since its specification to its construction and further maintenance. In order to show the use of the approach and tool, it was performed a real study case with a software company, from São Carlos SP, where a project management system was developed. In parallel, two experiments were conducted with undergraduate students in Computer Science and Computer Engineering and a Masters in Computer Science, to evaluate the gains and limitations of the Ruby-MDWA tool.
