In Brazil, due to the big cultural diversity and the variety of family arrangements, studying family is a challenge. In this perspective, it is possible to talk about Brazilian families composed according to different economic, social and cultural standards. Presuming that the concept of family should consider individual subjectivity, this paper sought to characterize and conceptualize families from rural and urban areas of a city in São Paulo state, according to the perspective of teenagers. The participants were 48 teenagers between 13 and 18 years old, 16 from the rural area and 32 from the urban area. To reach this goal, we sought a methodological approach which could permit a broad information collection utilizing two tools, a questionnaire for familial system. Characterization and instructions for family conceptualization interview. The results indicate that the percentage of nuclear families in still high in that pattern. The parents' education level and the family's income are higher in the urban area than in the country side. The parents' jobs are more linked to agro business in the rural area and to the management and administration sectors in the urban area. About half the rural mothers do not have a paid job, while in the city they are 9%. In both places, the majority owns their houses (around 77). When it comes to social support net, mothers are the most wanted by teenagers, followed by fathers, who are taking several functins, besides the tradicional and expected financial support; apart from the family, friends are the most wanted and sometimes give even more support than family members. For the adolescents from both places, the main representation of family is that of emotional/affective support. When approaching the concept of their own families, this category continues to predominate, with inferior percentages... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

To this end we identify the social, economic and cultural towns (production, income, infrastructure, religious, leisure), as well as its environmental dimensions (sanitation, disposal of waste and household conditions, health). The issues that the research aims to answer are: what are the aspects that make up the environmental and socioeconomic background of the rural villages of the municipality of Parintins? What does a space in the Amazon that has form and structure of the city, but do not have that name? And the extent to which these villages have to (re) production of the contradictions in the city? This work is based on studies of places, but specifically in the Amazon village, Caburi and Mocambo, the city of Parintins. The method used for data collection in this research, the application forms-economic, health and environmental issues, participant observation and interviews with the villagers. This research aims to contribute both knowledge of the specifics with regard to social structure and the inherent environmental Villages in the municipality of Parintins, because they have the shape of the city, but there are cities, although they have some hallmarks of the cities, the activities prevalent are related to the field and also the possible reflection on the role of urban areas today, with regard to the urbanization process that extends the same areas, thereby extending its contradictions in the production of space.

Hodnocení a návrh revitalizačních opatření vodních toků v urbanizované a rurální krajině / Assessment and proposal of the river restoration measures in urban and rural landscape

Tichý, Vojtěch January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with a proposal and evaluation of stream restoration measures as an effective tool to achieve good ecological status within the requirements of the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/ES. The main aim of this diploma thesis is to propose stream restoration measures at the Lišanský Brook based on evaluation of hydromorphological status, analysis of land-use changes and anthropogenic modification of the river basin, runoff and water quality assessment. Attention is also paid to the evaluation of the restoration measures in the selected localities on Botič and Litovický Brook. The main method used for the design and assessment of stream restoration measures is a field survey using the HEM methodology (Langhammer, 2014). Land-use analysis and stream adjustment analysis are based on available historical maps. Based on the results, Lišanský Brook is evaluated as moderately modified. The entire river basin is an intensively farmed landscape that has been affected by inappropriate anthropogenic modifications. To improve the current unsuitable stream conditions, it would be convenient to apply complete restoration measures on Lišanský Brook. Keywords: Stream, restoration, habitat, diversity, urban area, rural landscape

Gender And Internal Migration In Wuhan, Hubei Province, China: Rural Hometowns, Factory Work, And Urban Experiences

Janiec-Grygo, Milena Urszula 10 November 2009 (has links)
This thesis focuses on gender and scale as key aspects of the rural-to-urban migration process in China. Its specific aim is to connect economic and social reasons for rural women's migration towards urban factory work. Contemporary large-scale migration studies show inconsistencies and contradictions concerning reasons for migration, especially as it relates to gender. Thus, migration research often emphasizes the positive social changes experienced by women workers, in effect signaling that the most important needs of women migrants can be satisfied without economic gains. In contrast, the proposed study seeks to show that social and economic reasons intertwine within women's experiences of and explanations for their migration. The theoretical framework for the proposed study is based on postmodern understandings of gender, economy, and society. Data for the study was acquired through qualitative techniques, specifically through interviews with workers. The findings of this study supported the thesis that both economic and social factors informed women's decision to become migrants. In addition, this study revealed specific experiences of women workers related to migration. Thus, women decided to become migrants largely because their education allowed them to gain employment in urban areas and ability to gain independent income. Although social networks played a large role in the recruitment of rural women workers, they were not necessary to find employment. Experiences of v vi factory work reveal that the relationship between women and their employers are less restrictive than expected. In addition, rural women's experiences of being migrants in the city, although constrained by timings of factory work, encompass both material and social forms of consumption. Overall, migration outcomes reflected changing social status of women in the rural areas. Thus, this research approaches migration as a dynamic process. Embedded in this process are fluid identities of migrant women workers. Through questioning the meanings of 'social' and 'economic' migration, this research adds to existing studies on gender and migration in China and contextualizes the value of women workers to China's economy. Alongside, the study moves away from shop floor politics to the wider space outside the factory, thus linking urban and rural contexts. In a broader sense, this research aims to inform theories related to the economics and politics of migration through adding a spatial component to social understandings of the gendered migration process.

Rural–urban migration as a factor associated with physical and sexual intimate partner violence Peru 2015–2017: a secondary analysis of a national study

Terrazas, Jorge, Blitchtein, Dora 01 December 2022 (has links)
Background: Internal migration, a consequence of the demographic transition towards urbanization driven by globalization, represents a particular public health challenge. Change in residence from one sociocultural geographic context to another, with not only economic implications, but also changes in women’s long-established relationships of family interdependence, influences gender relations and can influence Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) against women. Different migratory trajectories may be related to IPV. The aim of this study was to identify the association between internal migration and physical and/or sexual violence against women in the last 12 months. Methods: A secondary analytical cross-sectional analysis of the publicly accessible 2015–2017 Demographic and Family Health Survey (DHS) was performed. The outcome variable was reported physical and/or sexual violence inflicted by the partner (IPV) during the last 12 months. Exposure variable was internal migration, operationalized from three questions: current place of residence, principal place of residence before 12 years of age and number of years of residence in the current place. Migrants were classified as those who reported having lived for 5 years or more in the current location and were categorized as rural-rural migrants, urban-urban migrants, urban–rural migrants and rural–urban migrants, recent migrants and nonmigrants those who resided in the same place all their lives. To identify the association between internal migration and physical violence, a generalized linear model (GLM) of the family and the log Poisson link log option was used, and the results are presented as prevalence ratios (PRs). A crude model and a model adjusted for confounding variables were performed. Results: Rural–urban migrant women had a 15.0% higher probability of experiencing IPV than nonmigrant women (PRa 1.15, 95% CI 1.03–1.29, p = 0.015), while the probability of experiencing IPV in the last 12 months for urban–rural, rural-rural,urban-urban migrantand recent migrant women was not significantly different from that of nonmigrant women. Conclusion: Rural–urban migration among women of childbearing age is a factor associated with a higher probability of IPV in the last 12 months. The identification of women with this rural–urban migration pattern could help prioritize those that may experience a greater probability of physical and/or sexual violence in Peru, it must be studied if this pattern is the same in other countries. / Revisión por pares

Surveying the thoughts of Japanese people on its LGBT people

Kullberg, Vaila Venla January 2023 (has links)
Japan is known for being one of the most urbanized countries in the world, with bustling urbancities, with high rates of education and economic development, as stated in reports showcased by international organizations such as the OECD. Despite these indicators for high development, Japan has been reported to be lacking in the legal rights and treatment of sexual and gender minorities, this may be suprising for some as urban environments are often thought of as safe spaces for these groups of people. In this study the attitudes of Japanese people towards LGBT people are explored through the use of a survey, which inquires Japanese people about their social circles, and how these circles and the respondents themselves think that LGBT people are viewed and treated and if there are any specific differences in Japan's urban and rural areas. The findings of this study seem to agree with previous studies and reports published by organizations and individual scholars, the consensus suggests, that while Japanese people seem to be aware of some of the inequalities LGBT people face such as discrimination and in marriage and legal protection, the overall attitude towards LGBT issues is one of apathy.
