Sensation Seeking and Affective Disorders: Characteristics in the Intensity Dependence of Acoustic Evoked PotentialsBrocke, Burkhard, Beauducel, André, John, Regina, Debener, Stefan, Heilemann, Hubert 21 February 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Augmenting/reducing of the evoked potential has been shown to be related to sensation seeking (SS) and specific clinical disorders. Buchsbaum demonstrated that patients with bipolar affective disorders (BAD) tend to be augmenters, as is the case with sensation seekers, and patients with unipolar affective disorders (UPD) tend to be reducers. In addition, he reported that prophylactic medication reduced the tendency to augment in bipolar patients. However, evidence for these relations is restricted to a few studies. This study explores whether Buchsbaum’s initial findings can be found in a naturalistic clinical setting. Acoustic evoked potentials were recorded for six levels of intensity (59, 71, 79, 88, 92, 96 dB SPL) from 24 healthy adults, 21 unipolar depressed patients, and 21 patients with BAD. Participants also completed personality questionnaires, especially the Sensation Seeking Scales Form V. Results revealed a positive correlation between SS and augmenting/reducing in healthy controls, thereby replicating earlier findings. Bipolar depressed patients showed larger P1/N1 slopes than healthy controls, when medication was statistically controlled. Unipolar depressed patients showed smaller P2 slopes, but only when medication was not controlled. Implications of these results for further research on augmenting/reducing and affective disorders and their relationship to SS are discussed. Information Use Environment of Religious Professionals: a Case Study of the Everyday Life Information Seeking Behavior of Catholic Clergy in Northern NigeriaDankasa, Jacob 08 1900 (has links)
This study explores the everyday life information seeking (ELIS) behavior of Catholic clergy in Northern Nigeria and describes their information use environment (IUE). It employed a mixed-method case study using survey and episodic interview techniques of data collection. The ELIS of Savolainen, the IUE of Taylor and the small world of Chatman were theoretical frameworks that guided this study. Findings showed that the IUE of these Catholic clergy is shaped by four elements: (1) geographical location and culture, (2) the celibate clergy, (3) their information needs, and (4) the information sources used to resolve these needs. Three types of information needs were identified: essential needs, circumstantial needs and intermittent needs. There was a high interrelatedness between the effects of culture and celibacy on the information seeking of these clergy. They are not likely to cross boundaries of their world to seek particularly essential information about their ministry or private lives. The findings of this study align with Chatman’s proposition that members who live in the round will not cross the boundaries of their world to seek information. The study found problems with access and availability of information, which included lack of familiarity with electronic/online library databases among the clergy, and the lack of archives and documentation of records and historical materials. It recommended the development of an archiving and documentation plan that digitizes paper documents for electronic management, including policies on data curation for the Catholic religious institutions in Nigeria.

Among Nursing Students : Differences Depending on Age, Year at School, and Previous Experience of Psychological HelpBjörnermark, Samuel, Aspman, Tatsiana January 2021 (has links)
This study aimed to increase knowledge about self-stigma and attitudes to seeking psychological help among Swedish nursing students, due to the high sick leave rates among nurses and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its accompanying negative consequences on mental health. The study focused on the relationship between self-stigma and attitudes, as well as how they are influenced by age, previous experiences of psychological help and education. Data were collected with the self-assessment forms Self-Stigma of Seeking Psychological Help Scale and Mental Help Seeking Attitudes Scale, which were answered by 171 nursing students at Linnaeus University, Växjö. The study showed that people with lower self-stigma had a more positive attitude towards help-seeking behavior, and that previous experience of psychological help varied significantly with the level of self-stigma, but not with an attitude towards help-seeking behavior. Neither age nor level of education were significant. The results of the study emphasized the importance of self-stigma in the design of supportive efforts to promote help-seeking behavior, and the need for more studies in the field.

Looking for data / Information seeking behaviour of survey data usersFriedrich, Tanja 30 November 2020 (has links)
From information behaviour research we have a rich knowledge of how people are looking for, retrieving, and using information. We have scientific evidence for information behaviour patterns in a wide scope of contexts and situations, but we don’t know enough about researchers’ information needs and goals regarding the usage of research data. Having emerged from library user studies, information behaviour research especially provides insight into literature-related information behaviour. This thesis is based on the assumption that these insights cannot be easily transferred to data-related information behaviour. In order to explore this assumption, a study of secondary data users’ information-seeking behaviour was conducted. The study was designed and evaluated in comparison to existing theories and models of information-seeking behaviour.
The overall goal of the study was to create evidence of actual information practices of users of one particular retrieval system for social science data in order to inform the development of research data infrastructures that facilitate data sharing. The empirical design of this study follows a mixed methods approach. This includes a qualitative study in the form of expert interviews and – building on the results found therein – a quantitative web survey of secondary survey data users.
The core result of this study is that community involvement plays a pivotal role in survey data seeking. The analyses show that survey data communities are an important determinant in survey data users' information seeking behaviour and that community involvement facilitates data seeking and has the capacity of reducing problems or barriers. Community involvement increases with growing experience, seniority, and data literacy.
This study advances information behaviour research by modelling the specifics of data seeking behaviour. In practical respect, the study specifies data-user oriented requirements for systems design.

This study aims to examine the health and care policies of the Moderates, the Christian Democrats, the Liberals and the Sweden Democrats, then compare each policy with the Tidö-agreement and analyze the parties' potential motives for cooperation. To help achieve the purpose of the study, following questions have been formulated: How did the care and care policies of the Moderates, Christian Democrats, Liberals and Sweden Democrats look before the elections in 2018 and 2022 respectively?, in what way, and to what extent, are care and care presented in the Tidö-agreement? and what political motives can explain the Moderates', Christian Democrats', Liberals' and Sweden Democrats' reasons for entering into cooperation with each other? The method is a motive analysis and to find out the possible motives of the parties, and the theory is Wolfgang C. Müller's and Kaare Strøm's theory regarding motives for the parties' actions where the parties are either most policy-seeking or office-seeking. The hypotheses are that the Moderates', Christian Democrats' and Liberals' mostly are office-seeking parties, while the Sweden Democrats' mostly is policy-seeking. However, the study results in only the hypothesis about the Liberals being strengthened, while the remaining hypotheses fall.
