Siena and its contado : art, iconography and patronage in the diocese of Grosseto from c.1380 to c.1480

Cardarelli, Sandra January 2011 (has links)
This study examines the artistic output in the diocese of Grosseto, which was part of Sienese controlled territories in Medieval and Renaissance times, and sheds light on the artists who worked there, the works that they produced, the purpose of these works and the way that these were shaped by local patrons, popular beliefs and long- standing traditions. It encompasses a period in the history of Siena that starts in c. 1380 with the political turmoil that followed the fall of the government of the Nine in 1355, and ends in c. 1480, around the time of Pandolfo Petrucci’s exile from the city. A contextualized overview of the activity of artists from Siena and beyond, such as Matteo di Giovanni, Sassetta, Vecchietta Francesco di Giorgio, Giovanni da Ponte and Andrea Guardi in the diocese of Grosseto is provided by means of visual examination and new documentary evidence. Relevant case studies offer a new perspective on the development of local visual imagery, the style and iconography of panel paintings, sculptures and fresco cycles and how these related to local devotional practices and patronage. The study shows that the development of independent taste in commissioning and acquiring artworks transcended geographical boundaries and political influence, and that original developments took place alongside the imitation of imported models. This research contributes to a new understanding of the relationship between Siena and Grosseto and proposes that notwithstanding Sienese influence, other cultural models were available, and that these were adapted to suit local requirements. A thorough investigation of local patronage establishes that this involved civic, religious and lay sources and that these shaped civic rituals and devotional responses to the cult of patron saints. It brings to light a vivid, yet complex image whereby all the realms of society interacted and benefitted from cultural exchange.

Hidrotechnikos statinių gežbetoninių atraminių sienų ilgaamžiškumo įvertinimas / The Evaluation of Durability of Reinforced Concrete Retaining Walls of Hydraulic Structures

Čekanavičius, Tomas 03 June 2009 (has links)
Naudojamų hidrotechnikos statinių konstrukcijos veikiamos įvairių apkrovų ir neigiamo aplinkos poveikio nudėvimos, susiformuoja pažaidos. Pavojingiausios pažaidos, mažinančios pagrindinių laikančiųjų konstrukcijų (atraminių sienų) laikančiąją galią. Netekus laikomosios galios kyla grėsmė viso hidrotechnikos statinio patikimumui ir ilgaamžiškumui. Darbo tikslas – įvertinti hidromazgų atraminių sienų betono paviršinio sluoksnio ilgaamžiškumą apibrėžiančius rodiklius. Atlikus tyrimus nustatyta pagrindinė gelžbetoninių atraminių sienų charakteristika – betono gniuždomasis stipris. Pagal stiprio tyrimo rezultatus įvertintas Gailiušių hidromazgo atraminės sienos patikimumas ir nustatyta, kuris betono apsauginio sluoksnio ilgaamžiškumo rodiklis tiksliausiai atspindi atraminių sienų ilgaamžiškumo skaičiavimo rezultatus. Siūloma ilgaamžiškumo vertinimui naudoti 3.11 formulę. / Constructions of hydraulic structures are under the influence of different loads and negative environment impacts. Due to environmental impacts some deteriorations on the walls take place. The most dangerous kind of deteriorations reduces the bearing capacity of main constructions. The loss of the bearing capacity is very dangerous for the reliability and durability of the retaining wall. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate indicies defining the durability of the concrete covering layer of the retaining walls of hydroschemes. After the analysis it was found out the main characteristics of the reinforced concrete retaining walls – the compression strength of the concrete. The reliability of the retaining walls of Gailiušių hydroscheme was evaluated using the compression strength analysis. It was found out which indicator of the concrete covering layer durability gives the most correct counting results. It is suggested to use formula 3.11 for evaluation of durability.

Kompiuterinio automatizuoto projektavimo posistemė pastato sienoms su angomis formuoti / CAD subsystem for creating of the building's walls with the openings

Šliaužytė, Brigita 05 June 2006 (has links)
Many architects is working with AutoCAD system. But it is very time consuming work when it is needed to do such a work like drawing 3D models of walls with openings. This can be solved because of AutoCAD open architecture. Advantages of this would be less of errors in drawings and more time for other work for architects. Created software is able from 2D draft of lines make 3D walls and, if was chossed, openings. The user describes dimensions of wall and / or opening and the program will change selected line by set of planes with the opening inside. There are a few aviable options for user choise: openings may have a form of triangle or rectangular, walls maybe be like surfaces or lines, it is possible to create a wall with an array of rectangular openings, and delete already created walls leaving primary lines. For software creation was choosen Visual Basic for Aplication programing language because of it is object – oriented and easy comunication with standart AutoCAD’s classes and graphical objects. User‘s dialog’s form was choosen nearly these, what apear in such software like Architectural Desktop because of its logical simplicity. Supposing created software will be developed further in these ways: o Adding more opening’s shapes o Creating library of opening’s o Supporting all standarts needed for professional.

"SIENA" / "WALL"

Navickienė, Justina 02 September 2010 (has links)
Mano diplominis darbas pavadinimu ,, Siena“. Kiekvieną dieną žmogus nor÷damas to ar ne, atsik÷lęs ryte pirmiausia išvysta kambario sienas. 1620mm x 2500mm, OSB plokšt÷, aliejus. Teorin÷je dalyje apžvelgiu temos paiešką, darbo priemones, darbo eigą. / My thesis title ,,Wall“. Every day people order it or not, first rose up in the morning departs the room walls. Also in the city, naturally, inevitably, we see fences, walls. Some of them, new matches are constructed, the other from old age. Their associate degree work with a high wall like a fence that enclosed the construction site, abandoned houses. Often these walls, decorated with graffiti letters or dying painted. Thesis consists of two parts: practical work and theoretical description. Practical work is a job. 1620mm x 2500mm, OSB board, oil. I look in the theoretical topics search, work tools, work in progress.

Aspects of imagery in Catherine of Siena from a Jungian perspective

Munro, Alison Mary January 2001 (has links)
This study investigates whether or nor not the imagery of Catherine of Siena can be interpreted from a Jungian perspective. It takes a lead from other studies, notably one on Teresa of Avila and Jung. Reading of medieval literature suggests that medievals applied the use of symbols and imagery in ways that are at times baffling to people of our time. Carl Jung was no stranger to imagery and symbol. In our current age with its renewed emphasis on the insights of spirituality, and to some extent its disenchantment with aspects of traditional psychology, there is room for a dialogue between the two disciplines of mysticism and psychology across a six-hundred year divide. The use of imagery, as a window to the soul, in the Christian tradition is examined. Catherine of Siena is situated within her own medieval context, one of upheaval in the church, but also an age of mysticism and spiritual/religious phenomena strange to our own time. Catherine is introduced against the background of her world and against the backdrop of the Dominican tradition. A discussion of some of her major imagery demonstrates her aim of union with God. An understanding of conscious aspects and of unconscious aspects of the self is shown as key to Jung ' s view of the psyche. Elucidation of some archetypes and a discussion of Jung's dream analysis demonstrates how Jung believed the unconscious becomes conscious, and how individuation becomes a possibility. Key Catherinian images are examined from a Jungian perspective. Catherine has relevance for the twenty first century, and we are invited to be challenged by the mysteries and truths to which her images point us.
