Automatic Generation Of Supply Chain Simulation Models From Scor Based OntologiesCope, Dayana 01 January 2008 (has links)
In today's economy of global markets, supply chain networks, supplier/customer relationship management and intense competition; decision makers are faced with a need to perform decision making using tools that do not accommodate the nature of the changing market. This research focuses on developing a methodology that addresses this need. The developed methodology provides supply chain decision makers with a tool to perform efficient decision making in stochastic, dynamic and distributed supply chain environments. The integrated methodology allows for informed decision making in a fast, sharable and easy to use format. The methodology was implemented by developing a stand alone tool that allows users to define a supply chain simulation model using SCOR based ontologies. The ontology includes the supply chain knowledge and the knowledge required to build a simulation model of the supply chain system. A simulation model is generated automatically from the ontology to provide the flexibility to model at various levels of details changing the model structure on the fly. The methodology implementation is demonstrated and evaluated through a retail oriented case study. When comparing the implementation using the developed methodology vs. a "traditional" simulation methodology approach, a significant reduction in definition and execution time was observed.

Горизонтальные слияния и поглощения: влияние неоднородности рынка и неполноты информации : магистерская диссертация / Horizontal mergers and acquisitions: the impact of the heterogeneous market and incomplete informationОборин, О. А., Oborin, O. A. January 2016 (has links)
The urgency of the master's thesis is due to the fact that in the majority of studies on M & A focuses on the description of the interaction of the two companies directly to their isolation from the market, although it may impose severe restrictions on these transactions.
Therefore, the aim of the thesis is to identify factors that explain the effectiveness of horizontal mergers and acquisitions in the heterogeneous market, under the conditions of incomplete information.
The novelty of the work lies in the fact that the proposed dynamic model of choice now between a merger, acquisition or abandonment of the reorganization, the criteria of selection factors estimated on the basis of simulation modeling, evaluating the efficiency of the horizontal mergers and acquisitions.
The proposed work method allows to create high-quality model for the mathematical description of the actual horizontal markets in which there are mergers and acquisitions, to predict their development.

Experimentally simulating high rate deformation of polymers and compositesKendall, Michael James January 2013 (has links)
The research presented in this dissertation presents a methodology to experimentally predict and simulate the mechanical behavior of polymers under high strain rate deformation. Specifically, the interplay between the effects of temperature and strain rate on polymer behavior is examined and then used as a tool to help recreate the high rate mechanical response of several different polymers: ranging from rubbers to amorphous polymers to composites. Multiple literature reviews are conducted and presented in this thesis, e.g. experimental mechanics test methods, high rate behavior, time-temperature equivalence, constitutive modeling, and temperature measurement methods. In accordance with mechanical theory, an experimental and analytical protocol in rate- and temperature- dependence was applied to a range of PVC materials ranging in plasticizer contents. Further to this, these PVC materials were modeled with a rubbery model describing the network stress seen in polymer behavior, and an amorphous polymer model to describe PVC low to high rate responses to deformation. This modeling develops insights in the adiabatic nature of high rate response. Time-temperature equivalence, and the temperature rise during adiabatic deformation, are studied and exploited in order to implement a proposed experimental method which simulates the high rate deformation of polymeric materials. The development of an experimental methodology to simulate and predict high rate behavior is presented, applied, and expanded to a range of materials: amorphous polymers (e.g. PVC 20wt% plasticizer, PMMA, PC) and composites (e.g. polymer bonded explosive simulant). The work also presents and highlights the fact that micro to nano-scale imaging may be used in parallel with the simulation method in order to better understand high rate behavior. Furthermore, in result of the studies conducted in this body of work, several novel techniques were developed, or improved upon, and applied to the current research (e.g. additions to time-temperature equivalence, temperature measurement methods at high, moderate, and low strain rates, and a method for measuring the high rate behavior of soft materials).

Simulation of 48-Hour Queue Dynamics for A Semi-Private Hospital Ward Considering Blocked BedsChen, Wei 23 March 2016 (has links)
This thesis study evaluates access to care at an internal medicine unit with solely semi-private rooms at Baystate Medical Center (BMC). Patients are divided into two types: Type I patient consumes one bed; Type II patient occupies two beds or an entire semi-private room as a private space for clinical reasons, resulting in one empty but unavailable (blocked) bed per Type II patient. Because little data is available on blocked beds and Type II patients, unit-level hospital bed planning studies that consider blocked beds have been lacking. This thesis study bridges that gap by building a single-stream and a two-stream discrete micro-simulation model in Excel VBA to describe unit-level bed queue dynamics at hourly granularity in the next 48-hour time horizon, using historical arrival rates and census-dependent discharge rates, supplemented with qualitative results on complexity of patient-level discharge prediction. Results showed that while we increase additional semiprivate beds, there was notable difference between the traditional single-stream model and the two-stream model concerning improvement in bed queue size. Possible directions for future research include patient-level discharge prediction considering both clinical and nonclinical milestones, and strategic redesign of hospital unit(s) considering overflows and internal transfers.

Bewertung innovativer Geschäftsmodelle: Entwicklung eines Simulationsmodells und Anwendung auf die bedarfsabhängige Funktionserweiterung im vernetzten Fahrzeug: Development of a simulation model and application to the ‘Function on Demand’ concept of the connected carZiegenfuss, Katharina 26 April 2021 (has links)

6 Schlussbetrachtung / Business model innovations provide powerful levers for creating sustainable competitive advantage and thus have a positive impact on the value of an enterprise. However, due to the complexity of business models, no practically applicable framework, evaluating an innovative business model with regard to its effect on a company’s success, has been established. Hence, a simulation model assessing the value contribution of a business model innovation is developed. Using the mathematical modeling technique ‘System Dynamics’ to frame the value drivers of a business allows for simulation experiments that reveal the effect of the business model’s design on its profitability, therewith guiding policymakers towards better decisions. As a result, the simulation model reports the net present value of a business model. In addition, the success indicators customer lifetime value and the value of the enterprises’ capabilities are identified as important assets that have to be monitored closely as they determine the company’s prospective performance. In combining financial standard calculations with the operationalization of non-financial measures, the simulation model represents a comprehensive approach for business model evaluation.:1 Einführung

Streamlining the flow of material through buffer simulation and multi-objective optimization, with regards to sustainability : A case study at Volvo Construction EquipmentNord, Daniel, Wernholm, Alex January 2023 (has links)
This thesis will provide knowledge on how to maintain a well developed flow of material while at the same time finding an optimal level of capacities for buffers. Simultaneously, aspects that allow for positive sustainability practices will be regarded. Buffers have a considerable impact on the performance of a production system. However, the process of optimizing buffers remains a complex task, and is therefore in need of further research. Through a thorough data collection process, simulation modeling and Multi-objective Optimization, the authors will present evidence-based recommendations for managing buffers in an optimal manner. The case company currently has two buffer zones that are to be investigated if they could be improved by finding an optimal capacity level. The current flow of material consists of certain variations in the components that will be taken into consideration, some variations need further investigation in order to be representative and applicable to this study. By applying amongst other things, Lean concepts, Gemba walks, simulation modeling, interviews and knowledge within the specific field of buffer optimization, the authors were able to provide evidence-based recommendations. These recommendations both take into account optimal buffer capacities as well as brief sustainability and economical aspects. The authors have found that one buffer zone has the potential of being removed, which will contribute to positive environmental aspects. However, if this solution is to be applied, the need of planning and managing the distribution of components is required. Another buffer zone has been investigated by applying the concept of Multi-objective Optimization, where the objectives are to maintain high throughput while minimizing the buffer capacities. The optimization procedure generated a decrease in buffer capacities in the zone by a total of 35%. This newly acquired space can either be used for other manufacturing processes, or be discontinued, which would decrease the energy consumption and positively affect the sustainability aspect.

Adaptive traction, Power and Torque Control strategies and optimization in an all-electric powertrainHidara, Aymane 08 December 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Electric and hybrid-electric vehicles lean heavily on intricate control algorithms to provide smooth, reliable, and secure operations under any driving conditions. Three distinct supervisory control strategies have been developed, each aiming to improve reliability and vehicle performance of a dual-motor electric vehicle equipped with an all-wheel-drive, fully electric powertrain. These algorithms are adept at dynamically modulating and constraining the torque provided to the wheels, leveraging two autonomous permanent magnet electric drive units. This study utilizes a vehicle model jointly provided by MathWorks and General Motors in partnership with industry sponsors. The these strategies were implemented in the model and enhanced the performance, vehicle range, energy consumption, regenerated energy using specific EDUs provided by sponsors. Adhering to a systematic engineering iterative method, the emphasis was heavily placed on simulation and modeling during the development and validation of these strategies. Simulations ensured robust testing before field implementation, emphasizing software modeling's vital role.
