Étude de l'allocation du carbone dans la plante en réponse à la contrainte hydrique : impact sur l'expression des transporteurs de saccharose dans les organes source et puits / Study of plant carbon allocation under water deficit : impact on sucrose transporters genes expression in source and sink organs

Durand, Mickael 11 December 2015 (has links)
The aim of this thesis was to investigate the sucrose transporters involved in sink organs development, and more precisely their role in roots of plants submitted to water deficit. The expression of AtSUCs and AtSWEETs transporters was mapped during the full development of A. thaliana plants grown hydroponically in rosette, stem, siliques and roots. In parallel, we evaluated C partitioning and sugar metabolism in whole plant during development to finally (1) get an insight on C allocation, sugar metabolism and sucrose transporters genes expression and (2) discuss their possible relationships.Secondly, we designed an innovating soil culture system, called “Rhizobox” which allows clean roots harvest, root system architecture analysis and water deficit experiment. Under water deficit, root growth was reduced, but in depth root exploration was maintained probably to improve water uptake. In addition, although shoot submitted to water deficit were smaller, 14C exported to the roots increased. In the same time, the transcript levels of the sucrose effluxers gene AtSWEET11 and AtSWEET12 and the companion-cell specific sucrose:H+ symporter gene AtSUC2, all three involved in sucrose phloem loading, are up-regulated in leaves of water deficit plants, agreeing with the increase in carbon export to the roots. Interestingly, the transcript levels of AtSUC2, and AtSWEET11-15, were higher in stressed roots, underlying (1) the potential existence of sucrose apoplastic unloading in Arabidopsis roots and (2) a putative role for these sucrose transporters in sucrose unloading in root since they are mainly expressed in root zones where C demand is high.

Mecanismos fotossintéticos e relação fonte-dreno em cana-de-açucar cultivada em atmosfera enriquecida de CO2 / Photosynthetic mechanisms and source-sink relationship in sugarcane grown in elevated CO2

Souza, Amanda Pereira de 30 May 2011 (has links)
The atmospheric CO2 concentration has been increasing progressively along the last years. This increase is attributed mainly to humans action and to land use changes, deforestation and fossil fuel burning. Is it predicted that the global climate changes resulting from CO2 increase will impact significantly agriculture. Sugarcane is very important for worlds economy due to its use for sugar and alcohol industry. In this way, the knowledge of how sugarcane will respond at elevated CO2 is important to design strategies for biofuel production and use in Brazil and in the world. In experiments with sugarcane grown under elevated CO2 sugarcane plants have shown an increase in photosynthesis, biomass and sucrose content. It was then speculated that the higher photosynthesis observed in these experiments might be regulated by electron transport rates, since genes related to this process were observed with higher expression in elevated CO2. However, the mechanisms that are related with this process are still unknown. The aim of this thesis was to understand the mechanisms related in the regulation and functioning of photosynthesis in sugarcane in elevated CO2. This work presents data about diurnal cycle of photosynthesis and non structural carbohydrates, physiology, biochemistry and gene expression. The results show that photosynthesis regulation in elevated CO2 is linked with the plant growth that remains under these conditions, since the pots cause roots growth limitations and leads a possibly water deficit. Genes and proteins were found that are related directly or indirectly to electron transport process as seen from differential expression. This corroborates the data obtained from in vivo measurements. On the other hand, our data show little variation in CO2 capture system, indicating that the mainly regulations of photosynthesis in sugarcane occurs due changes in light capture system. Proteins and genes have been observed that associated with sugar content and growth. These might be key for understanding regulation of photosynthesis in sugarcane. With the data obtained it is possible to speculate that elevation of CO2 will benefit the sugarcane plants in the future. Also, the regulation points described in this work have potential to be used as tools to help finding more productive cultivars.

Análise experimental dos efeitos do fluido e da orientação do escoamento no desempenho de dissipadores de calor baseados na ebulição convectiva em microcanais / Experimental evaluation of the effect of the fluid and the footprint orientation on the performance of a heat spreader based on flow boiling inside micro-scale channels

Leão, Hugo Leonardo Souza Lara 06 February 2014 (has links)
This study presents an experimental investigation on the effect of the fluid and the footprint orientation on the performance of a heat spreader based on flow boiling inside micro-scale channels. This heat spreader is used in an electronics cooling application with high-power density. Initially an extensive investigation of the literature concerning single-phase and two-phase flow inside a single microchannels and multi-microchannels was performed. In this literature review the leading predictive methods for heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop are described. The experimental study was carried out in the apparatus developed by Do Nascimento (2012). The heat sink evaluated in the present study is comprised of fifty parallel rectangular microchannels with cross-sectional dimensions of 100 µm width and of 500 µm depth, and total length of 15 mm. The fins between consecutive microchannels are 200 µm thick. Experimental tests were performed for R245fa, low-pressure fluid used in low pressure refrigeration cycles, and R407C, high-pressure fluid used for heat comfort, saturation temperature of 25 and 31°C, mass velocities from 400 to 1500 kg/m² s, degrees of subcooling of the liquid of 5, 10 and 15°C, outlet vapor quality up to 0.38, heat fluxes up to 350 kW/m², and for the following footprint heat sink orientations: horizontal, vertical with the microchannels aligned horizontally and vertical with upward flow. The results were parametrically analyzed and compared again the predictive methods from literature. Average heat transfer coefficients up to 35 kW/m² °C were obtained. The results for R134a from Do Nascimento (2012) for the same heat sink presented heat transfer coefficients higher than R245fa and R407C. The fluid R407C presented oscillation of the temperature due to thermal instability effects with lower frequency and amplitude lower than R134a, and R245fa. None predictive method provided satisfactory heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop predictions of the experimental data. The Homogeneous model with the viscosity given by Cicchitti et al. (1960) provided the best pressure drop prediction while the heat transfer coefficient was best predicted by Bertsch et al. (2009) and Liu and Winterton (1991). The horizontal orientation of the footprint provided the highest heat transfer coefficients while the vertical footprint orientation with upward flow the lowest pressure drops. Images of the two-phase flow were obtained with a high-speed camera and analyzed.

Modélisation de composants d'extraction de la chaleur : application à l'optimisation de système d'électronique de puissance / Modelling of heat transfer components : Application to optimization of power electronics systems

Castelan, Anne 22 December 2017 (has links)
The replacement of hydraulic and pneumatic network embedded in aircraft by electrical network will increase the number of embedded systems to ensure the effective functioning of the aircraft. The development of an electrical aircraft will allow the reduction of production and functioning costs. It will also help ensure a better reliability of systems and will reduce the ecological impact of the aircraft circulation. This kind of plane would be lighter than a usual one. To be sure of this, it is necessary to reduce weight of embedded equipment's dedicated to management, conversion and distribution of electrical energy. The sizing and the optimization of embedded equipment's weight is a critical issue in the development of more electrical aircraft. This weight is mostly defined by heat transfer systems, when we consider the sizing of energy conversion system A lot of heat transfer system exists and are dedicated to the cooling of power converters. We selected two of these heat transfer system, in order to produce models of them. These models will be used in optimization routines. Plate fin heat sink in forced convection, and system assembly, combining heat pipe and plate fin heat sink, will be modelled during this thesis. Analytical models of these heat transfer systems will be developed, to optimize their weight and ensure a good cooling of electrical systems. Even if lots of dimensioning and optimization methods exists, dedicated to heat transfer systems, we choose to use analytical modelling. This kind of models gives an exact solution to the heat equation, to describe simple geometric and thermic configurations. Selected heat transfer systems can be simply described. The main advantage of these models is that it represents the thermal behavior of the system as a function of its geometrical parameters, materials and environmental conditions. Execution of these models is very fast and gives a precise solution of the thermal parameters of the described configuration. There is then a real interest to use this type of models to optimize weight of heat transfer systems, and then power converter.

Silva, Andréa Carvalho da , 1981- January 2009 (has links)
Dynamics of a viscous incompressible flow in presence of a rigid body and of an inviscid incompressible flow in presence of a source and a sink / Dynamique d’un écoulement incompressible visqueux en présence d’un corps rigide et d’un écoulement incompressible non visqueux en présence d’une source et d’un puits.

Bravin, Marco 24 October 2019 (has links)
In this thesis, we investigate properties of incompressible flows that interact with a rigid body or a source and a sink. In the case of an incompressible viscous fluid that satisfies the Navier Stokes equations in a 2D bounded domain well-posedness of Leray-Hopf weak solutions is well-understood. Existence and uniqueness are proved. Moreover solutions are continuous in time with values in L 2 (Omega) and they satisfy the energy equality. Recently the problem of a rigid body moving in a viscous incompressible fluid modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations coupled with the Newton laws that prescribe the motion of the solid, was also tackled in the case where the no-slip boundary conditions were imposed. And the correspondent well-posedness result for Leray-Hopf type weak solutions was proved. In this manuscript we consider the case of the Navier-slip boundary conditions. In this setting, the existence result for the coupled system was proved by G'erard-Varet and Hillairet in 2014. Here, we prove that solutions are continuous in time, that they satisfy the energy equality and that they are unique. Moreover we show an existence result for weak solutions of a viscous incompressible fluid plus rigid body system in the case where the fluid velocity has an orthoradial part of infinite energy. For an inviscid incompressible fluid modelled by the Euler equations in a 2D bounded domain, the case where the fluid is allowed to enter and to exit from the boundary was tackled by Judovic who introduced some conditions which consist in prescribing the normal component of the velocity and the entering vorticity. In this manuscript we consider a bounded domain with two holes, one of them is a source which means that the fluid is allowed to enter in the domain and the other is a sink from where the fluid can exit. In particular we find the limiting equations satisfied by the fluid when the source and the sink shrink to two different points. The limiting system is characterized by a point source/sink and a point vortex in each of the two points where the holes shrunk.

Redistribuição de nutrientes em razão da fenologia da frutificação do café arábica / Redistribution of nutrients due to the phenology of arabica coffee fruiting

Reis, Marina Rodrigues dos 07 August 2019 (has links)
Coffee is a plant of continuous growth. With each new vegetative cycle new organs are formed and complete the growth of existing organs The leaves present in the nodes with fruits are sources of photoassimilates and part of nutrients, through the redistribution, during the fruiting. Redistribution is influenced by several factors, including fruit load and phenological stage, which is incorrectly assessed by the variation of nutrient concentration in the 3rd and / or 4th pairs of coffee leaves. This process must be evaluated in the mature leaves (old leaves) associated to the nodes with fruits, since they are the source leaves. This research was carried out with the objective of evaluating two methodologies to quantify the redistribution, to identify the fruiting phase that the process is significant and also, if the fruit load interferes with the redistribution. The work was carried out at Fazenda São João, in Presidente Olegário - MG. Four fruit loads (0%, 30%, 60% and 100%) were simulated between phenological phases: small green (CH) - expansion (EX), expansion (EX) - seed- filling (GR), seed-filling (GR) - maturation (MT) and small green (CH) - maturation (MT). Redistribution of nutrients (N, P, K, Mg and Zn) was calculated based on the methodology of Maillard and Zhao. The largest redistributions of N, P, K, Mg and Zn for the methodology of Maillard occurred between the GR-MT phases; while for the methodology of Zhao the greatest N redistribution occurred between the GR-MT, K, Mg and Zn phases between the CH-EX and P phases between EX-GR. For the fruit load, the highest redistribution of N, P and Mg occurred in the absence of fruits and Zn with 100% of the fruits present (Maillard), while for the methodology of Zhao the redistribution of N and K was greater in the presence of 100% of the fruits; P and Mg at 60% fruit load and Zn when there were 30% fruits in the plants. Pending fruit loads and fruiting phases influenced nutrient redistribution. The most redistributed nutrient was K and the largest redistribution phase occurred between the period of granation and maturation. Of the methodologies evaluated in the essay, the use of Maillard\'s methodology is recommended.

Urbanised territories as a specific component of the global carbon cycle / Urbanised territories as a specific component of the global carbon cycle

Svirejeva-Hopkins, Anastasia January 2004 (has links)
We calculate the additional carbon emissions as a result of the conversion of natural land in a process of urbanisation; and the change of carbon flows by “urbanised” ecosystems, when the atmospheric carbon is exported to the neighboring territories, from 1980 till 2050 for the eight regions of the world. As a scenario we use combined UN and demographic model′s prognoses for regional total and urban population growth. The calculations of urban areas dynamics are based on two models: the regression model and the Gamma-model. The urbanised area is sub-divided on built-up, „green“ (parks, etc.) and informal settlements (favelas) areas. The next step is to calculate the regional and world dynamics of carbon emission and export, and the annual total carbon balance. Both models give similar results with some quantitative differences. In the first model, the world annual emissions attain a maximum of 205 MtC/year between 2020-2030. Emissions will then slowly decrease. The maximum contributions are given by China and the Asia and Pacific regions. In the second model, world annual emissions increase to 1.25 GtC in 2005, beginning to decrease afterwards. If we compare the emission maximum with the annual emission caused by deforestation, 1.36GtC per year, then we can say that the role of urbanised territories (UT) is of a comparable magnitude. Regarding the world annual export of carbon by UT, we observe its monotonous growth by three times, from 24 MtC to 66 MtC in the first model, and from 249 MtC to 505 MtC in the second one. The latter, is therefore comparable to the amount of carbon transported by rivers into the ocean (196-537 MtC). By estimating the total balance we find that urbanisation shifts the total balance towards a “sink” state. The urbanisation is inhibited in the interval 2020-2030, and by 2050 the growth of urbanised areas would almost stop. Hence, the total emission of natural carbon at that stage will stabilise at the level of the 1980s (80 MtC per year). As estimated by the second model, the total balance, being almost constant until 2000, then starts to decrease at an almost constant rate. We can say that by the end of the XXI century, the total carbon balance will be equal to zero, when the exchange flows are fully balanced, and may even be negative, when the system begins to take up carbon from the atmosphere, i.e., becomes a “sink”.

An Analysis of Terminology Describing the Physical Aspect of Piano Technique

Wheatley-Brown, Michèle T 23 November 2011 (has links)
Mastering the physical aspect of piano technique has long been a topic of great interest and importance to pianists. This is borne out in the numerous pedagogical approaches on the topic of piano technique. Despite the many contributions from pedagogues and scholars in developing an understanding of piano technique, many conflicting approaches often cause more confusion than clarity. After reviewing the literature on pedagogical approaches to piano technique, this study determined that problematic language might lie at the root of the confusion. Core concepts identified in the review of literature as recurring areas of misunderstanding were tension, relaxation, co-contraction, arm weight, and hand and finger shape. The purpose of this study is to seek where issues of language exist in contemporary piano pedagogical approaches and to show how these problems may contribute to the systemic confusion in piano technique. To do this, the language that is used to describe and define the core concepts identified in the review of literature is analyzed in five modern pedagogical approaches. Five authors who have developed approaches that reflect current trends in piano technique have been selected for this study: Barbara Lister-Sink; Dorothy Taubman; Thomas Mark; Fred Karpoff; and Alan Fraser. The first step of this study entails collecting data from each of the five pedagogical approaches. The data is then analyzed for consistency and accuracy. Problems in language that contribute to the inconsistencies and inaccuracies are examined and illustrated with material from the data collection. This study concludes by identifying the main sources of confusion in the use of language: inconsistent and inaccurate use of terms; wavering between scientific, common, and invented language; challenges in describing opposing qualities that come from tension and relaxation; and failing to discern between the individual subjective experience and the mechanics of movement. By recognizing where the problems in language exist, this study represents an important first step for the pedagogical community to reach a common understanding of the language used to describe the physical aspect of piano technique.
