abstract: With increasing interest in sustainability and green building, organizations are implementing programs such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (LEED-EB) in order to focus corporate sustainability goals on the operations of a facility and the practices of the building occupants. Green building programs help reduce the impact of a facility and bring about several environmental benefits including but not limited to energy conservation, water conservation and material conservation. In addition to various environmental benefits, green building programs can help companies become more efficient. The problem is that organizations are not always successful in their pursuits to achieve sustainability goals. It frequently take years to implement a program, and in many cases the goals for sustainability never come to fruition, when in the mean time resources are wasted, money is spent needlessly and opportunities are lost forever. This thesis addresses how the Six Sigma methodologies used by so many to implement change in their organizations could be applied to the LEED-EB program to help companies achieve sustainability results. A qualitative analysis of the Six Sigma methodologies was performed to determine if and how a LEED-EB program might utilize such methods. The two programs were found to be compatible and several areas for improvements to implementing a LEED-EB program were identified. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.S. Technology 2010

O tema deste trabalho é a metodologia Seis Sigma. O objetivo principal é apresentar e desenvolver uma metodologia para aplicação do Seis Sigma e desenvolver estudo aplicado. Inicialmente, é realizada uma revisão bibliográfica, enfocando os temas qualidade, satisfação do cliente e Seis Sigma. Na seqüência, é apresentada uma proposta de modelo para a aplicação do Seis Sigma em processos industriais. O modelo proposto aborda a estrutura para aplicação do Seis Sigma, os treinamentos e as principais atividades e ferramentas do ciclo DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve e Control). O modelo proposto é aplicado através de uma série de projetos. Um desses projetos é descrito detalhadamente, ilustrando o modelo proposto. Os resultados apresentados na aplicação do Seis Sigma são amplamente positivos. Os resultados obtidos abrangem melhorias radicais de qualidade, produtividade e custos. As atividades e ferramentas que apresentaram melhores resultados são destacadas. Apesar do Seis Sigma estar associado à aplicação intensiva de estatística, verifica-se que, de um modo geral, o Seis Sigma pode ser aplicado de um modo mais simplificado. / The subject of this work is the Six Sigma methodology. The main purpose is to present and develop a methodology for Six Sigma application, illustrating through a case study. First, a literature review, focusing on the items quality, customer satisfaction and Six Sigma methodology, is carried out. Next, a model proposed for Six Sigma application in industrial processes is presented. The proposed model deals with the structure for Six Sigma application, the training of the people involved and the main activities and tools of the DMAIC cycle (Define, Measure, Analysis, Improve, Control). The proposed model is applied to many projects. One of these projects is described in detail, illustrating the proposed model. The results achieved with Six Sigma are very positive. The results include breakthrough improvements in quality, productivity and costs. The activities and tools that show best results are emphasized. Despite the association of Six Sigma with intensive statistical application, it is possible to verify that this methodology can be applied in a more simplified way.

The aim of the thesis is optimization of key processes taking place in operating theaters in healthcare institute. Optimization of these processes will enable more efficient, thus providing a management of healthcare institute tool for management. Process analysis will be performed using suitable models and methods of Lean Six Sigma.

The work is focused on the possibilities of using Six Sigma methods in the company DHL International GmbH. The main aim of the diploma thesis is to evaluate the current progress of Six Sigma method in DHL International GmbH and in case of the detection of deficiencies propose appropriate recommendations. For this purpose the semistructured interview with an employee of the company was conducted and also the analysis of a particular Six Sigma project was accomplished. The theoretical part characterizes a basic concepts related to the Six Sigma method, the major steps, key tools and there are also mentioned other methods that are used in DHL company. In the empirical part is the Six Sigma method applied to a specific project. The recommendations have been proposed based on consultation with DHL employees and with the experts in the field of process improvement. The recommendations are presented in the conclusion of the work.

Carrión, Lima 2015. Material y Métodos: Es un estudio descriptivo y transversal cuya muestra lo constituyen las 13 pruebas bioquímicas más frecuentemente solicitadas según el Reporte Estadístico Mensual 2014. Se usó un Suero Control de Tercera Opinión (de 2 niveles de concentración: Normal y Patológico) al cual se le midieron los 13 analitos mediante 15 corridas por cada uno. Primero se determinó la precisión y la veracidad, luego el Error Total y finalmente el Sigma para cada analito. El Desempeño Analítico se evaluó mediante el nivel Sigma obtenido para cada analito, dichos niveles son: Inaceptable (<(2σ), Marginal (3σ), Bueno (4σ), Excelente (5σ) y Óptimo (6σ). Resultados: Los analitos con Sigmametría “Optima” fueron el Ácido Úrico, Albumina, Bilirrubina Total, Creatinina, Proteína Total y Triglicéridos; “Bueno” para Transaminasa Glutámico-Oxalacético, “Marginal” para Lactato Deshidrogenasa, “Pobre” para Bilirrubina Directa y Urea; “Inaceptable” para Colesterol Total, Glucosa y Transaminasa Glutámico-Pirúvica. Conclusión: El presente estudio permitió al Laboratorista conocer el desempeño analítico real, y al Clínico, saber el grado de Error Total con que se emiten los resultados por parte del Laboratorio de Bioquímica del Hospital. / Trabajo académico

The work had as purpose to demonstrate the applicability of the Lean Six Sigma in a real logistical problem of the transportation of goods among units of the metallurgic industry. The stages used for the solution of the problem follow the DMAIC cycle – Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. The dissertation presents in details the integrated approach of the improvement processes Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, their tools set, as well the results obtained in the case study.
