Time-Domain Methods for Synthesizing Broadband Macro-Models of Coupled Interconnects in High-Speed Digital Circuits

Kuo, Chun-Chih 12 July 2005 (has links)
This dissertation proposed two time-domain algorithms for extracting the broadband SPICE-compatible models of high-speed coupled interconnects. The first approach is proposed to synthesized the equivalent models of multi-conductor interconnects by cascading multiple configuration-oriented coupled transmission line (CCTL) units. The second approach focuses on the modeling of differential via based on a broadband macro-£k model with three modules represented by the optimum pole-residue forms. Using a systematic lumped-model extraction technique (SLET), all the pole-residue rational functions can transfer into a corresponding lumped model. The accuracy of the two algorithms is demonstrated both in time- and frequency -domain responses comparison with the direct 3D-FDTD simulation.

A Time Domain Approach for Effective Synthesizing of Broadband SPICE-Compatible Models of the Power Delivery Networks with Resonance Effect

Wang, Chen-chao 12 February 2008 (has links)
This dissertation proposed a novel time-domain algorithm for extracting the broadband SPICE-compatible models of power/ground planes with resonance effect. The time-domain algorithm approach can focus on the modeling of interconnectors and power/ground planes based on a broadband macro model. Every module of the broadband macro model is represented by the optimum pole-residue forms. Using a systematic lumped-model extraction technique, all the optimum pole-residue rational functions can be transferred into a corresponding lumped circuit model. The accuracy of the time-domain algorithms is demonstrated both in time- and frequency-domain responses comparison by the 3D-FDTD simulation and measurement. In addition, these models can be efficiently incorporated into the currently available circuit simulator such as HSpice for the consideration of power/ground bouncing noise with active devices in high-speed circuits.

"Spice-Epidemin" : En jämförande kritisk diskursanalys av Spicedebatten i svensk kvällspress och i facktidskrifter för socionomer.

Edman, Oskar, Backlund, Anders January 2015 (has links)
2015-06-15

Hierarchical Simulation Method for Total Ionizing Dose Radiation Effects on CMOS Mixed-Signal Circuits

Mikkola, Esko Olavi January 2008 (has links)
Total ionizing dose (TID) radiation effects modeling and simulation on digital, analog and mixed signal systems remains a significant bottle neck in the development of radiation-hardened electronics. Unverified modeling techniques and the very high computational cost with today's commercial simulation tools are among the primary hindrances to the timely hardened IC design, particularly to the design in commercially available processes. SPICE-based methods have been used for total dose radiation degradation simulations. While SPICE is effective in predicting the circuit behavior under circumstances when the electrical parameters stay constant during operation, it's not effective predicting aging behavior with gradual change with time. Behavioral modeling language, such as VHDL-AMS is needed to effectively capture the time-dependent degradation in these parameters in response to environmental stresses, such as TID radiation. This dissertation describes a method for accurate and rapid TID effect simulation of complex mixed-signal circuits. The method uses a hierarchical structure where small sub-circuits, such as voltage comparators, references, etc. are simulated using SPICE. These SPICE simulations of small circuits for multiple radiation doses are used to tune behavioral VHDL-AMS models for the sub-circuits. The created behavioral models therefore contain the electrical circuit behavior combined with the radiation response. The entire combined system is then simulated using VHDL-AMS.In a simulation experiment that was used to validate the speed and accuracy of the new method, a commercial 8-bit sub-ranging analog to digital converter netlist containing more than 2000 MOS transistors was simulated with TID models using a contemporary SPICE-based method and the new method. The new method shortened the simulation time by three orders of magnitude, while accuracy remained within reasonable limits compared to the SPICE-based method. Moreover, the automated procedures for circuit node bias monitoring, TID model replacement and result collection that are included in the simulation code of the new method decreased the "hands-on" engineering work significantly. Results from an experiment where the new TID effect simulation method was used as a hardness assurance test procedure for integrated circuits designed to be operated in radiation-harsh environments are also included in this dissertation.

Circuit modeling of spintronic devices: a SPICE implementation

Bonhomme, Phillip 22 May 2014 (has links)
Every engineer that has worked on designing an integrated circuit has to leverage an under- standing of device physics. Understanding device physics is essential when optimizing a design for speed, power, etc. These characteristics affect the bottom line when considering an integrated circuit used in a particular application. In order for there to be an under- standing of device physics, there must be a device model that is developed for a device of interest. The development of a device model often involves utilizing fundamental physical equations in a manner that is solvable by either analytical or numerical means. This typically begins by simplifying fundamental physical equations, possibly spanning multiple domains, and considering the physical quantities of interest. In order to make simplifications, assumptions about the underlying physics must be made. It is the process of transitioning from known physics laws to simplified mathematical models that a device modeler spans. This thesis will cover the device modeling aspects of a new classification of computing devices, spintronics. It will begin by stating the physical assumptions necessary for the operation of spintronic devices. Then it will go the process of deriving the underlying physical equations and stating them in a tractable form with the appropriate boundary conditions. Then these equations will be manipulated and mapped into an equivalent circuit. The equivalent circuits will them be validated against analytical solutions provided from other works. It will then finish by providing example devices that can be simulated with the develop device models, and some optimization results are proposed based off a simplified circuit model.

Analysis of automation of bulk packaging line at Wixon Inc.

Putnam, Eric January 1900 (has links)
Master of Agribusiness / Department of Agricultural Economics / Allen M. Featherstone / The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the impact the installation of an automated packaging system would have on the predominately manual bulk packaging work centers at Wixon Inc., a privately held, integrated food and beverage developer, manufacturer, and processor. The objective of this thesis is to determine if converting to an automated system would minimize costs and increase line speeds. The owners desire a 3-year payback on the investment. In addition to the financial and economical aspects of automating the equipment, there are potential food safety and personnel safety improvements that would be brought to the firm by changing equipment. The firm’s owners want to be proactive and minimize any impact a reduction in the labor pool might see cause from the exit of workers from the Baby Boomer generation. Methods used to determine the objectives of this thesis include a comparative time study of bag filling rates, an analysis of incremental cost savings, net present value (NPV) analysis and return on investment (ROI). Data were collected from studies conducted by the engineering consulting firm of Middough Incorporated, from Wixon Inc. accounting records and, interviews of key Wixon employees. The report provided by Middough determined that the new system would be able to replace three work centers in the Bulk Packaging department based on bag fill rates and flexibility in bag sizes. This reduces the employee cost per bag. The incremental costs were analyzed using accounting records for past history. Floor space, labor costs and other integral costs were compared to determine what costsavings there may be. Cost savings were treated as cash flow. The NPV and ROI for the project used this cash flow to determine if an investment in automation is a wise one. The conclusion based on the analysis made was that, based on NPV the investment would be profitable. However, the 3-year payback of $1.5 million would not be possible under current assumptions. The automation would reduce the number of needed employees enough to absorb any reduction in the labor pool while providing increased food and employee safety.

Synthetic Cannabinoid Usage among College Students: The Example of K2 and Spice

Stephens, Jason L. 08 1900 (has links)
The primary goal of this study was to investigate the awareness and prevalence of Spice and K2 usage among a population of college students, as well as the demographics of such users. The study also sought to determine whether or not students prefer these products over natural cannabis, in addition to examining the most popular methods of obtainment and the most commonly reported side effects of K2 and Spice usage. Participants consisted of 643 undergraduate students enrolled at the University of North Texas during the fall 2011 semester. Findings indicate that while students exhibit a relatively high awareness of K2 and Spice, usage of these products is not a prevalent occurrence. Implications of the findings are discussed.
