Sustainable destination development has in recent years become an increasingly important concept for tourism destinations. A destination must take into account the environment if it wants to continue being a successful tourism destination in the future. This essay investigates what needs to be developed on theislandofSandhamnfor that the destination can be more attractive in the off season and how the players on Sandhamn integrate to develop Sandhamn in a sustainable manner. One market research and interviews with five different players were made. Through these interviews grew an understanding for how the cooperation between the municipal and the private party looks like and how the history of Sandhamn is the foundation for the islands tourism development. In the paper the authors use a qualitative research method with a quantitative approach. The thesis theoretical conceptual framework is based on scientific articles and books on sustainable tourism development. The authors have through the interviews and the market research found that Sandhamn with the help of its natural attraction for centuries has attracted visitors. Seglarhotellet has played a crucial role in Sandhamns sustainable development. Within the tourism industry, it is important that the destination development is executed in a way that does not give any negative impact on the environment. The players of Sandhamn seem to have understood this since they have a great respect both to nature and to the residents. The conclusion is that the responsible players work together efficiently to develop Sandhamn to a year round destination. Unfortunately they have not developed cooperation on sustainability issues, this is something that needs to be improved by focusing on common objectives to achieve sustainable development. Operators must also consider having more open during the winter so that tourists will have more to do in Sandhamn. The municipality must become more engaged since they play a major role in Sandhamns development. For an attractive destination requires careful planning and cooperation between players. / Hållbar destinationsutveckling har på senare år blivit ett allt viktigare begrepp för turismdestinationer. En destination måste ta hänsyn till att utveckla möjligheter i omgivningen samt bevara miljön om den vill fortsätta vara en framgångsrik turismdestination i framtiden. Denna uppsats undersöker vad som behöver utvecklas på ön Sandhamn för att destinationen ska bli mer attraktiv under lågsäsongen samt hur aktörerna på Sandhamn integrerar för att utveckla ön på ett hållbart sätt. Under uppsatsens gång gjordes en marknadsundersökning samt  intervjuer med fem olika aktörer. Genom dessa intervjuer skapades förståelse för hur samarbetet mellan de kommunala och privata intressenterna ser ut och hur Sandhamns historia är grunden till öns turismutveckling. I uppsatsen tillämpas en kvalitativ undersökningsmetod med en kvantitativ ansats. Uppsatsens teoretiska föreställningsram utgår från vetenskapliga artiklar samt böcker inom hållbar destinationsutveckling. Författarna har genom intervjuerna och marknadsundersökningen kommit fram till att Sandhamn med hjälp av sin naturliga attraktionskraft i flera århundraden lockat besökare. Seglarhotellet har spelat en avgörande roll för Sandhamns hållbara utvecklingsprocess. Inom turismbranschen är det viktigt att destinationsutveckling utförs på ett sätt att den inte ger någon negativ påverkan på miljön. Detta verkar aktörerna på Sandhamn ha förstått då de har en stor respekt för såväl natur som till invånare. Slutsatsen är att de ansvariga aktörerna samarbetar effektivt för att utveckla Sandhamn till en åretrunt- destination. Dessvärre har de inte ett utvecklat samarbete gällande hållbarhetsfrågor, detta är något som behöver förbättras genom att satsa på gemensamma mål för att uppnå hållbar utveckling. Aktörerna måste även överväga att ha mer öppet under vintern för att besökarna ska ha mer att göra i Sandhamn. Kommunen måste bli mer engagerad då de spelar en avgörande roll för Sandhamns utveckling. För att en destination ska vara attraktiv krävs noggrann planering och ett samarbete mellan aktörer.

Ösamhället Sandhamn ligger på Sandön i Stockholms skärgård och är för de flesta känt som ett besöksmål för turister. Namnet Sandhamn används ofta för både byn och hela ön. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hur platsen Sandhamn laddas med betydelse genom olika aktörers berättelser. Jag vill undersöka hur de gestaltas, hur de uppfattas och påverkar oss samt samverkar med varandra i ett konstruktivistiskt perspektiv samt hur detta påverkar samhället. Ur de dominerande berättelserna om Sandhamn valdes tre återkommande mindscape: skärgårdsidyll, konsumtion, och historia. Därefter analyserades hur dessa mindscape används, samverkar med varandra och skapar konsekvenser. Resultatet av analyserna gav att mindscapen användes i olika syften och med olika dominans och spridning. De samverkar med varandra vilket ger en förstärkande effekt. Konsekvenserna av de större och dominerande aktörernas berättelser kan bli att samhället anpassas till att möta de besökandes förväntningar i så hög grad att det inte går att leva upp till dem. Eftersom turismen är den största näringsgrenen skulle det i så fall påverka samhället negativt. / The village Sandhamn is located on Sandön in the Stockholm archipelago and is known by most as a tourist destination. The name Sandhamn is often used to refer to both the village Sandhamn and the island on which it is located. The purpose of this essay is to explore how Sandhamn is perceived, this through different agents stories. I've explored how they are formed, perceived, affect us and also relate to each other in a constructivistic perspective and how this affects the community. From the dominating stories about Sandhamn three recurring mindscapes were chosen: archipelago paradise, consumption and history. Later on an analysis was made on how these mindscapes are used, collaborates and which consequences they cause. The results of these analyses showed that the mindscapes were used for different purposes, with different dominance and spread. They collaborate with each other which results in an amplified effect. The consequences of the bigger and dominating stories could be that the community is adapted to meet the expectations of the visitors, to an extent where the expectations can't be met. Since tourism is the major source of income, this would affect the community in a negative way."
