Talaie, Daniel, Ursu, Sara January 2021 (has links)
The banking industry is constantly changing, resulting in more flexible payment methods and user-friendly services. Today's digital society attracts young people where new attitudes and behaviours are attributed. Thus, mobile banking applications are considered to be a technological development and streamlining of the bank. With this development, operational risks such as security risks may also arise. Trust is therefore of great importance for the relationship between bank customers and the bank in order to maintain customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. Previous research shows that young bank customers' confidence in mobile banking applications is influenced and connected by a number of factors. The purpose of the study is to describe and analyse the relationship between young bank customers' trust in mobile banking applications and perceived security risks. A quantitative research method is applied for this study. The method has been based on a deductive and positivistic approach based on theoretical frameworks that tests the study's six hypotheses. The empirical data that the study has applied was collected through a survey that was answered by 183 respondents. It was processed by using a univariate and bivariate analysis as well as a multiple regression analysis. The study's theoretical frame of reference introduces a number of theories with the purpose of investigating the study's background and problem discussion. An independent variable and five control variables have been developed as influential factors for young bank customers' trust in mobile banking applications. The independent variable is perception of security risks. The five control variables consist of gender, age, level of education, position and savings, all of which are related to the dependent variable trust. The results showed that there is no statistically significant relationship between young bank customers' trust in mobile banking applications in relation to gender, level of education and position. However, it was also discovered that there is a statistically significant connection between young bank customers' trust in mobile banking applications with respect to perception of security risks, age and savings. Beyond that it was also established that the older the bank customer is, the lower the customer's trust is in the mobile banking applications.

Zogaj, Drilon January 2020 (has links)
The emergence of cloud services is a trend that is increasingly effecting organizations which is considered the future of information technology. Today, large organizations are increasingly migrating their business-critical ERP-system to the cloud, despite being the one of the most risky, costly and time-consuming IT-investment that an organization can ever make. CloudbasedERP-system can bring several benefits, but also several security risks, such as storing organizational data with third-party suppliers. Security risks cannot be eliminated, but they need to be managed and reduced. This study has examined how big customer organizations handle security risks that may arise when using cloud-based ERP-systems. The study has identified three approaches to managing security risks. The first approach is to manage security risks through formal agreements with the cloud provider. The second approach to managing security risks is through internal processes such as data encryption. The third approach is to raise awareness and educate users in the organization.

Smart connected homes : concepts, risks, and challenges

Bugeja, Joseph January 2018 (has links)
The growth and presence of heterogeneous connected devices inside the home have the potential to provide increased efficiency and quality of life to the residents. Simultaneously, these devices tend to be Internet-connected and continuously monitor, collect, and transmit data about the residents and their daily lifestyle activities. Such data can be of a sensitive nature, such as camera feeds, voice commands, physiological data, and more. This data allows for the implementation of services, personalization support, and benefits offered by smart home technologies. Alas, there has been a rift of security and privacy attacks on connected home devices that compromise the security, safety, and privacy of the occupants. In this thesis, we provide a comprehensive description of the smart connected home ecosystem in terms of its assets, architecture, functionality, and capabilities. Especially, we focus on the data being collected by smart home devices. Such description and organization are necessary as a precursor to perform a rigorous security and privacy analysis of the smart home. Additionally, we seek to identify threat agents, risks, challenges, and propose some mitigation approaches suitable for home environments. Identifying these is core to characterize what is at stake, and to gain insights into what is required to build more robust, resilient, secure, and privacy-preserving smart home systems. Overall, we propose new concepts, models, and methods serving as a foundation for conducting deeper research work in particular linked to smart connected homes. In particular, we propose a taxonomy of devices; classification of data collected by smart connected homes; threat agent model for the smart connected home; and identify challenges, risks, and propose some mitigation approaches. /
Note: The papers are not included in the fulltext online.

Safety and security of consumers at retail stores in the Gauteng province : an assesment of security measures

Mahambane, Misaveni Abel 27 July 2018 (has links)
Retail stores rely on consumers to maintain their businesses and growth. Much of their success depends on the safety and security of consumers. The more people come and buy the products, the more profitable the stores become. If the safety and security of consumers (or their perceptions thereof) at a shopping centre where a retail store is sited is in question, consumers may well stop frequenting such centres and do their shopping at other retail centres at which they perceive to be more safe and secure to do their shopping. Consumers’ ‘peace-of-mind’ plays a vital role in their selection of which retail store(s) to frequent and will often determine whether a repeat visit will occur. The extent of incidents of crime of whatever nature at a particular shopping centre will also impact negatively on shoppers’ perceptions of ‘how safe it is to shop’ at particular centres. Security measures differ from one retail store to another and also between the size and layout, as well as the location of the retail store. The rate at which criminal offences take place at retail stores is currently vague or unknown. Therefore, it is vital that specific risks confronting these retail stores should be identified and analysed with the intention of recommending specific security measures. Business crime and violence present significant threats to consumers’ safety and security in South Africa. High levels of business associated crimes have compelled communities and business bodies such as retail stores to provide their own security for the protection of their assets, as well as consumers. Effective security measures are a prerequisite at retail stores to ensure the safety and security of consumers whilst visiting retail stores. Precaution ought to be taken when dealing with any crime problem that affects consumers at any business environment, in this study more precisely: retail stores. The study explored the existing security measures at retail stores for the protection of consumers. The researcher employed qualitative methods: one-on-one interviews with participants and site observations at selected retail stores. There were 30 participants (20 consumers and 10 security officers). The study found the following:  Retail stores were exposed to security risks such as theft; shoplifting; common robbery; armed robbery; fraud; arson and assaults (grievous bodily harm) and burglary.  The security measures that are currently in place are not adequate to protect retail stores. These security measures differ from one retail store to the next.  In order to improve safety and security at retail stores there should be a security standard that is applicable to the retail stores. Based on the findings, some of the recommendations were as follows:  Retail stores should be protected in line with the level of risk of the area where the retail store is situated: low risk; medium risk; and high risk.  Security managers should conduct security awareness regularly.  Threat assessments should be conducted regularly as well.  Consumers are encouraged to report to the Security manager at the retail store any suspicious actions; persons; objects; and vehicles. / Criminology and Security Science / M. An investigation of safety and security measures at secondary schools in Tshwane, South Africa

Van Jaarsveld, Leandri 11 1900 (has links)
Violence in schools creates a climate of insecurity and fear, which impairs and impacts on the core educational purpose of schools. Accordingly, the main purpose of installing and implementing security measures at schools is to create a safer environment wherein individuals can move freely and feel secure in going about their daily schooling activities. The nature and extent of school violence was briefly examined within this study to assess the effectiveness of security measures within the schools. It is important for any institution to first examine and identify the specific risks it is facing before those risks can be addressed successfully. Security measures are valuable and helpful resources that can assist in creating safe and secure school environments. As this study highlighted, the more security measures a school had, the safer the scholars and the educators felt and the lower their crime rates appeared to be. / Educational Studies / M. Tech.
