Eke, Magnus, Gaasvik, Adam January 2013 (has links)

Helgesen, Annika, Lindberg, Josefin January 2013 (has links)

Pira, Linnea, Shahraki, Honey January 2013 (has links)
Abstract Title: HelpTube: A Study on the Motivation behind Crowdsourcing with STD & Motivation Functions for Volunteer Work as Explanatory Models. Level: Bachelor Thesis in Business Administration; C-level. Authors: Honey H. Shahraki & Linnea M. Pira Supervisor: Jonas Kågström Date: 2013- June Background: In recent years the trend and usage of social networking has increased significantly amongst individuals as well as businesses. YouTube is one example of the social environment in which the public has an opportunity to act as both consumer and supplier. Prior research in this field emphasizes the importance of understanding individuals’ incentive to share their knowledge. Thus, what are the underlying objectives behind individuals’ actions and willingness to contribute to the accumulated knowledge? Aim of the study: The aim of the study is to build on prior research in the field of Self-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan, 2000) and Clary et als (1998) research on functional motivation for volunteering. Subsequently, we then approach these manners in a crowsourcing context by measuring why YouTube users want to contribute to cumulative knowledge through a social media network. Method: This study is based on a quantitative and deductive approach. Grounded on the indices of Self-Determination-Theory (Aspiration Index) and Functional Motivation Theory of Volunteering (Volunteer Function Inventory) we assembled six different categories. These constituted our online survey of a questionnaire containing 18 questions. The questionnaire was then designed in Google forms and sent out to YouTube users creating tutorials for various software programs. Further, the questionnaire responses were processed in the IV result and analysis chapter, where a statistical inquiry consisting of Factor analysis, Correlation analysis and Cluster analysis was made. Results & Analysis: The processing of the study’s result and analysis indicated that the YouTube-respondents were in line with both the Self-Determination Theory as well as Clary et al’s (1998) theory of the functional motivation for volunteering. The respondents valued each question in different degrees of esteem, for each set of categories that was formed in this study. The questions that the respondents tends to value the most were the following; to help people in need, to grow as a person and obtain different learning experiences, to have fun, to work towards the betterment of society, and to obtain new and different perspectives. The least valued questions for the respondents were the following; monetary rewards, to create tutorials because friends do it, and to escape bad feelings. Further, it can be concluded that the majority of questions in the categories, Personal Growth and Intrinsic Projection are valued most highly by the YouTube respondents. Conclusion: After the result and analysis process, a pattern was observed. The studied respondents exhibited an inclination towards internal motivators. Accordingly, we were able to indetify strong links between the categories; Instrinsic Projection, Personal Growth and Societal Values, and the respondents. This is consistent with the Self-Determination Theory as well as the Functional Motivation Theory for Volunteering. Additionally, we can comment that the studied group on YouTube also fulfills the criterias of the crowdsourcing concept. Future Research: In our opinion there is currently a knowledge gap that needs to be filled, in order to understand and utilize the phenomenon’s full capacity. Questions regarding the underlying motivation of individuals that participate, and engage their time and energy towards a further development of accumulated knowledge, is evidently scarce. Since this study primarily focuses on ascertaining the YouTube users' underlying motives, a proposal for further research can be to apply this model to a different type of network. An additional proposal could be for future researchers to develop or improve the study’s compiled model and thereby achieve more precise answers. Further, we hope that more scholars develop recognition of the Crowdsourcing phenomenon, hence attaining a greater knowledge and contributing organizations with practical tools that they can apply and make use of. Contribution: With the study’s gained knowledge about the participants underlying motivation factors, organizations using this phenomenon could increase the participation-levels and thereby extracting a more reliable source of information. This would help organizations to obtaining an additional channel to reach and enlist the help of consumers worldwide. Keywords: Self-Determination Theory, Functional Volunteer Motivation, Crowdsourcing, Motivation, YouTube, Tutorial.

Hagman, Elin January 2011 (has links)

Prenatal testing decisions : women's needs and well-being

Wohlgemuth, Nicole Renee 24 March 2006 (has links)
Objectives: Advancements in womens reproductive technology have resulted in women having to face the decision whether to undergo prenatal testing (PNT). This study explored the factors involved in womens decisions around PNT and assessed the extent to which the decision making process differed between women that chose not to have PNT and those that chose to have PNT. The Self-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan, 1985) was used as the theoretical framework. <p>Study Methods: 30 pregnant or recently pregnant women over the age of 35 participated in semi-structured interviews and completed a brief survey. Content analyses were completed on the interview transcripts, and correlational analyses were performed on the survey data. Results: Womens personal values, feelings of social support, and perceived competence played major roles in the decision process. Some women in this study indicated the PNT choice gave them a feeling of control and offered feelings of reassurance, while some said having to make the choice was a burden that they found difficult to bear. Women in the testing group appeared to place a great importance on the need for information, while women in the no testing group placed greater importance on the need for social support. Each testing group also appeared to differ in facets of their personal values, such as religiosity (only women in the no testing group discussed this issue) and need for a sense of control (only women in the testing group discussed this issue). The women in the no testing group showed higher levels of uncertainty and decisional conflict, and lower levels of decisional self-efficacy than women in the testing group. <p>Conclusions: Each testing group appears to be individual in their needs during PNT decision making. The study findings suggest women should be counseled differently depending on their supports, values, and need for knowledge regarding testing. The findings suggest that women opting against PNT experience elevated decisional distress, and perceive themselves to be less competent and more conflicted over the decision than women choosing PNT. Special attention to these women during the PNT decision may improve their feelings of being socially supported during the decision.

Autonomy in Nicaragua and Nunavut : a comparative study in self-determination

Pino, Rodolfo 03 November 2006 (has links)
This thesis examines the concept of self-determination, as defined by competent international agencies. Analyzing the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and the Estatuto de Ia Autonomia de las Regiones de Ia Costa Atlantica de Nicaragua (Autonomy Statute for the Regions of the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua), this work proposes that these two laws of legislation do provide a starting point for the Inuit and the Miskitu-nani to definitely begin to work towards achieving a degree of self-determination within the nation-states in which these peoples live. <p> After analyzing the historic development of the concept of self-determination and placing the Inuit and the Miskitu-nani in a theoretical framework of internal colonization, this work looks at the history and background of both peoples as well as at the final documents: the Law of Autonomy, the Nunavut Final Agreement and the Nunavut Law. Following a comparison and an analysis of these agreements, it is proposed that they represent an initial political step that, by providing some self- administration, potentially opens a road to self-determination for these Aboriginal nations âself-determination as defined by international agencies and accepted by most member states of the United Nations.

Labour relations and Indian self-determination : a Fort Alexander case study

Anderson, Brian 07 November 2006 (has links)
This case study examines a labour relations issue which initially involves teacher employees of the Sagkeeng Education Authority of the Fort Alexander Band on one hand and the Sagkeeng Education Authority and the Fort Alexander Chief and Council on the other. The events of the issue transpire between 1981 and 1986.<p>Teacher employees, concerned with working conditions and job security, organized as a local of the Manitoba Teachers' Society which was certified under the Canada Labour Code. The Chief and Council of the Fort Alexander Band rejected the formation of the local and the applicability of the Canada Labour Code to labour relations on the reserve. Teachers were fired for union activities. Hearings were held by the Canada Labour Relations Board. Orders were issued by the Labour Board and a collective agreement was imposed by the Labour Board. The Chief and Council refused to follow the Labour Board's orders, and contempt of court hearings were held by the Federal Court. Fort Alexander officials, including the Chief and Council, were initially fined and subsequently jailed. The Minister of Indian Affairs, David Crombie, promised to initiate Department studies to examine the possibilities and implications of changing the labour relations regime to reflect Indian self-government. The dispute was eventually settled out of court but the issue of Indian government jurisdiction over labour relations remains unresolved.<p>Conceived and sanctioned by the Manitoba Teachers' Society, the Canada Labour Relations Board and the Federal Court as a labour dispute, the researcher argues that the issue is more readily understood within the context of Indian self-determination and self-government. Concepts concerning philosophical, socio-economic, cultural, legal, political and historical aspects of the relationship between Indian peoples and the Canadian state are brought to bear on the issue. Concepts of group rights versus those of individual rights are examined.<p>It is argued that the current labour relations legal regime is inconsistent with Indian self-determination and self-government. The researcher suggests jurisdiction over labour relations should be determined by First Nations' governments as consistent with the goals of self-determination and self-government. Conceptions of Indian labour relations jurisdiction are suggested.

Does self-compassion matter beyond self-esteem for women's self-determined motives to exercise and exercise outcomes?

Magnus, Cathy Marlene Rose 04 September 2007 (has links)
According to the Canadian Community Health Survey, fifty-nine percent of Canadian women are not getting enough exercise to receive health benefits (Canadian Fitness & Lifestyle Institute, 2001). Engaging in regular exercise has been found to provide significant psychological and physical health benefits, such as reduced depression, anxiety, and increased well-being (Bouchard, Shephard, Stephens, Sutton, & Mcpherson, 1990; Georgia State University, 1997; National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, 1999; Roth & Holmes, 1987). Therefore, increasing exercise participation contributes to enhancing the well-being of women. The purpose of this study was to examine how self-compassion would be related to self-determined motives to exercise and to outcomes in the exercise domain, and whether self-compassion would explain unique variance beyond self-esteem on those variables. There were two main hypotheses. First, that self-compassion would be positively related to identified, integrated, and intrinsic motives to exercise and to task goals; and negatively related to external and introjected motives to exercise, ego goals, social physique anxiety, and obligatory exercise. Second, it was hypothesized that self-compassion would predict unique variance over and above self-esteem with motivation, goal orientation, physique anxiety, and exercise behaviour. The participants were 252 adult female exercisers, ranging in age from 17 to 43 years, recruited from a small mid-western Canadian university. Participants completed an online survey including the Behavioural Regulations in Exercise Questionnaire (Wilson, Rodgers, Loitz, & Scime, 2006), Rosenbergs Self-Esteem Questionnaire (Rosenberg, 1965), the Self-Compassion Scale (Neff, 2003b), the Goal Orientation in Exercise Measure (Petherick & Markland, 2005), the Social Physique Anxiety Scale (Martin, Rejeski, Leary, McAuley, & Bane, 1997), the Obligatory Exercise Questionnaire (Pasman & Thompson, 1998), and the Godin Leisure Time Exercise Questionnaire (Godin & Shepard, 1985). Correlational analyses revealed that self-compassion was positively related to intrinsic motivation (r = 0.19), and negatively related to external (r = -0.24) and introjected (r = -0.41) motivation, ego goals (r = -.20), social physique anxiety (r = -.57), and obligatory exercise behaviour (r = -.24). Hierarchical regression analyses showed that self-compassion contributed negative unique variance over and above self-esteem on introjected motivation (∆R2 = .035), ego goals (∆R2 = .028), social physique anxiety (∆R2 = .042), and obligatory exercise (∆R2 = .018). The present study provides evidence that self-compassion is related to motives to exercise and various outcomes of exercise. Further, this study extends the use of self-determination theory and supports that future research continue to explore the role of self-concept in motivation. Outcomes of well-being were found to be related to self-compassion, suggesting that perhaps self-compassion is a promising construct that may be used to foster long-term womens exercise motives.

Rens, Isabella, Bengtsson, Josefin January 2012 (has links)
Sju respondenter i tre olika fotbollslag intervjuades.
