Mozart

Dalla Costa, Fábio Cirilo Santos January 2010 (has links)
The present work deals with the Concerto in C Major for Flute and Harp K299 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The main objective was the transcription of the Harp part of the concerto for a seven-string guitar. Through comparative analysis of transcriptions made by the composer himself, along with further reading, the necessary procedures to accomplish this transcription were identified and classified. They are: range compression, suppression of notes, change in the disposition of notes and the transference of accompaniment material from the harp part to the orchestra. Such procedures agree with an idiomatic and musical adaptation for the target instrument, while remaining accurate to the original work. It was concluded that the transcription of a work must be based on an applied methodology that define the guidelines and adapt the original compositional idiom to the personal choices of the transcriber.

Téma existenciální úzkosti a smrti v raných prózách Dina Buzzatiho / Existential Anxiety and Death in the Early Works by Dino Buzzati

Barteľová, Tatiana January 2017 (has links)
The main theme of this thesis is the existential anxiety and the motive of death in the early prosaic texts of the Italian author Dino Buzzati. The first chapter is dedicated to the author's biography where mainly the early years of his literary career are emphasized. After this introductory session follows an overview of the main features of existentialism as well as its place in the context of 20th century European literature and philosophy. In the last section of the theoretical part of the thesis we comment on the possible analogies between the literary work of Dino Buzzati and those of Franz Kafka, which were noticed by the contemporary literary criticism. The analytical part of the thesis is dedicated to the literary analysis of the primary texts: the novel The Tartar Steppe and selected short stories of the collection The Seven Messengers. In the last section we draw conclusions on the literary style of Dino Buzzati based on the previous analysis of the literary texts.

Vingt-sept droites sur une surface cubique : rencontres entre groupes, équations et géométrie dans la deuxième moitié du XIXe siècle / Twenty-seven Lines on a cubic surface : encounters between groups, equations, and geometry in the second half of the 19th century

Lê, Francois 29 June 2015 (has links)
In 1849, Arthur Cayley and George Salmon proved that every cubic surface contains exactly twenty-seven lines. A famous result in the second half of the 19th century, this theorem gave rise to research about a particular algebraic equation called the "twenty-seven lines equation." In our thesis, we study how groups, equations, and geometry interact throughout this research. After a preparatory work presenting some mathematical and chronological points about the twenty-seven lines, we look into Camille Jordan's Traité des substitutions et des équations algébriques, published in 1870. This book contained a section devoted to the twenty-seven lines equation, the mathematics of which we thoroughly study. In order to contextualize some elements, a larger corpus is then built around "geometrical equations," a family of equations linked to geometrical configurations among which the twenty-seven lines are just one example. The corpus extends from 1847 to 1896 and its main authors are Jordan, Alfred Clebsch, and Felix Klein. Aiming at describing the particular organization of the knowledge shared in the corpus, we then discuss and use the notion of "culture." Finally, we closely study two texts of the corpus, each of them presenting a geometrization of a part of algebra, and we ascertain that geometrical equations participated to a geometrical understanding of substitution theory as well as the elaboration of the ideas of Klein's Erlanger Programm (1872).

Narrating post-colonial crisis: the post-colonial state and the individual in the works of Sony Labou Tansi

Mashihi, Thapelo 28 March 2014 (has links)
Thesis (M.A.)--University of the Witwatersrand, 1999. / In this study I will examine two texts by the Congolese author Sony Labou Tansi, namely The Seven Solitudes of Lorsa Lopez and Parenthesis of Blood. The aim of the research is to examine how and why the author uses techniques of allegory and magic realism instead of realism in his work. By closely examining the two texts and with the help of comparisons with his other works, I intend to show that the world he is representing is too fabulous to be rendered in a realistic manner. The use of allegory and irony in the text is a strategy that helps the author to challenge the oppression and despair in his society. The issue of gender is also important in both texts, therefore, I will examine how Labou Tansi portrays women in his works. I will do this by comparing his presentation of women to other female characters found in African canonical works by male writers.

A Systems Approach to Education Based Upon the Work of Clare W. Graves

Pryor, Tommy Dan 08 1900 (has links)
This study has a twofold purpose. The first is to develop a systems approach to education that is based on the seven levels of existence which were identified by Clare W. Graves. The second is to project and forecast the development of the eighth level of existence and to develop an approach to education for this eighth level. In order to establish an understanding of Graves' theory of the levels of psychological existence, an extensive study was made of Graves' papers, both published and private. Based on Graves' theory and the research of others in the field, an approach to education was designed for each of eight levels of existence—reactive, tribalistic, egocentric, absolutistic, achievist, sociocentric, existential, and experientialistic—that complements and utilizes the unique characteristics of each level. The design of each educational approach includes learning system, motivational strategy, evaluation procedure, classroom management, and facility design. The issues of student grouping by level of existence, assessment of the individual levels of existence, and matching of instructor and students by level of existence are also addressed.

A pie in a very bleak sky? : analysis and appropriation of the promise sayings in the seven letters to the churches in Relevation 2-3

Wilson, Mark W. 11 1900 (has links)
This study of the promise sayings elucidates the motif of victory as the book's macrodynamic theme. Through intentional examination, the thesis finds the issue epitomized throughout Revelation on two levels-formally (re structure) and materially (re content). Jesus as Victor over death and the dragon desires the Asian believers to be prepared for his soon coming. The victors are promised eschatological rewards if they overcome various internal and external threats. In mapping out the dramatic scenario Chapter 1 explores afresh such background issues as authorship and audience. The pagan religious environment, represented by the Artemis and emperor cults, is demonstrated to be adversarial. Chapter 2 looks at four situations in Revelationthe rhetorical, historical, apocalyptic, and prophetic. Their composite exigences point to an early dating in the late 60s. Chapter 3 postulates that chiasmus is Revelation's macrostructure, and a chiastic model is proposed. Chapter 4 examines several proposed forms for the seven letters, such as edicts, oracles, and epistles. We conclude that they are a mixtum compositum-best called prophetic letters. Chapter 5 explores the sociological significance of victory in the Greco-Roman world. Through the use of language such as vLKaw and images like the palm branch, John motivates his audience toward the ideal of victory. Chapter 6 investigates the text of the promises and their cotexts as reflected intertextually in traditions of biblical literature. Local references are also determined to contribute to a multivalent interpretation of the promise imagery. Chapter 7 surveys the eschatological fulfillment of the promises, especially in the new Jerusalem. The rewards of spiritual provision, heavenly place, and divine person serve to incite the saints to victory. Chapter 8 investigates the appropriation of the promises for the time and the text world of Revelation. A multiplicity of functions for the promise sayings is established. This study shows that the promises function as prophetic parenesis to help the saints endure the coming tribulation. The possibility and reality of such a fulfillment and the appropriation of the promises allow us to postulate that these promises to the victors are not vain pies in a very bleak sky! "pies in the sky") is nie!
