A Penalty Function-Based Dynamic Hybrid Shop Floor Control System

Zhao, Xiaobing January 2006 (has links)
To cope with dynamics and uncertainties, a novel penalty function-based hybrid, multi-agent shop floor control system is proposed in this dissertation. The key characteristic of the proposed system is the capability of adaptively distributing decision-making power across different levels of control agents in response to different levels of disturbance. The subordinate agent executes tasks based on the schedule from the supervisory level agent in the absence of disturbance. Otherwise, it optimizes the original schedule before execution by revising it with regard to supervisory level performance (via penalty function) and disturbance. Penalty function, mathematical programming formulations, and quantitative metrics are presented to indicate the disturbance levels and levels of autonomy. These formulations are applied to diverse performance measurements such as completion time related metrics, makespan, and number of late jobs. The proposed control system is illustrated, tested with various job shop problems, and benchmarked against other shop floor control systems. In today's manufacturing system, man still plays an important role together with the control system Therefore, better coordination of humans and control systems is an inevitable topic. A novel BDI agent-based software model is proposed in this work to replace the partial decision-making function of a human. This proposed model is capable of 1) generating plans in real-time to adapt the system to a changing environment, 2) supporting not only reactive, but also proactive decision-making, 3) maintaining situational awareness in human language-like logic to facilitate real human decision-making, and 4) changing the commitment strategy adaptive to historical performance. The general purposes human operator model is then customized and integrated with an automated shop floor control system to serve as the error detection and recovery system. This model has been implemented in JACK software; however, JACK does not support real-time generation of a plan. Therefore, the planner sub-module has been developed in Java and then integrated with the JACK. To facilitate integration of an agent, real-human, and the environment, a distributed computing platform based on DOD High Level Architecture has been used. The effectiveness of the proposed model is then tested in several scenarios in a simulated automated manufacturing environment.

QUALITY ANALYSIS IN FLEXIBLE MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS WITH BATCH PRODUCTIONS

Wang, Junwen 01 January 2010 (has links)
To improve product quality and reduce cost, batch production is often implemented in many exible manufacturing systems. However, the current literature does not provide any method to analyze the quality performance in a flexible manufacturing system with batch production. In this research, we present an analytical method with closed-form formula to evaluate the quality performance in such systems. Based on the model, we discover and investigate monotonic and non-monotonic properties in quality to provide practical guidance for operation management. To improve product quality, we introduce the notions of quality improvability with respect to product sequencing. In addition, we develop the indicators for quality improvability based on the data available on the factory floor rather than complicated calculations. We define the bottleneck sequence and bottleneck transition as the ones that impede quality in the strongest manner, investigate the sensitivity of quality performance with respect to sequences and transitions, and propose quality bottleneck sequence and transition indicators based on the measured data. Finally, we provide a case study at an automotive paint shop to show how this method is applied to improve paint quality. Moreover, we explore a potential application to reduce energy consumption and atmospheric emissions at automotive paint shops. By selecting appropriate batch and sequence policies, the paint quality can be improved and repaints can be reduced so that less material and energy will be consumed, and less atmospheric emissions will be generated. It is shown that such scheduling and control method can lead to significant energy savings and emission reduction with no extra investment nor changes to existing painting processes. The successful development of such method would open up a new area in manufacturing systems research and contribute to establish a solid foundation for an integrated study on productivity, quality and exibility. In addition, it will provide production engineers and operation managers a quantitative tool for continuous improvement on product quality in flexible manufacturing environment

ADAPTIVE, MULTI-OBJECTIVE JOB SHOP SCHEDULING USING GENETIC ALGORITHMS

Metta, Haritha 01 January 2008 (has links)
This research proposes a method to solve the adaptive, multi-objective job shop scheduling problem. Adaptive scheduling is necessary to deal with internal and external disruptions faced in real life manufacturing environments. Minimizing the mean tardiness for jobs to effectively meet customer due date requirements and minimizing mean flow time to reduce the lead time jobs spend in the system are optimized simultaneously. An asexual reproduction genetic algorithm with multiple mutation strategies is developed to solve the multi-objective optimization problem. The model is tested for single day and multi-day adaptive scheduling. Results are compared with those available in the literature for standard problems and using priority dispatching rules. The findings indicate that the genetic algorithm model can find good solutions within short computational time.

台灣休閒咖啡館商業計畫書 / Business Plan of Leisure Coffee Shop

李思逸, Lee, Anna Unknown Date (has links)
台灣休閒咖啡館商業計畫書 / In Taiwan, have a cup of coffee have become part of the life of people who lives in the city. We cannot only buy the coffee in coffee shop like Starbucks, Barista, or Mr. Brown but also in convenient stores like 7-11 and Family Mart. These places provide different kinds and levels of coffee. This causes a fierce competition in coffee shop market. But this also indicates that the needs of coffee keep growing. Although lots of places provide coffee, only few of them provide quality coffee in a special and tasteful space. Most coffee shops are for people to sit down and talk and consumers don’t care if the coffee is good or not as long as it’s cheap. Actually from a cup of coffee, there are lots of things to talk about. From the history of drinking coffee, places that coffee bean grows, and people who live in those places. It will be fantastic if people know this information when having coffee. Form a cup of coffee, we know how to care about the world, and we don’t have to learn these things in a classroom but in a warm, elegant coffee shop. Le Moulin de la Galette will be a shop that not only provides good coffee, but also knowledge of coffee and the way to develop the culture of coffee. It will also be a place that the customer will gain a series of delightful experiences instead of just some products that you can have anywhere.

Conscientious objectors, closed shop agreements and freedom of association / by J.J. van der Merwe

Van der Merwe, Johannes Jacobus January 2005 (has links)
Section 26 of the Labour Relations Act 95 of 1996 makes provision for the introduction of closed shop agreements at the workplace between majority unions and employers. All employees covered by such agreements are required to be members of such unions or otherwise face the possibility of dismissal. "Conscientious objector" employees are an exception to this rule. The purpose of this submission is to investigate the constitutional validity of s26 in the light of the fundamental right to freedom of association in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1 996 whilst investigating the position of "conscientious objectors" in certain foreign jurisdictions. / Thesis (LL.M. Shop stewards in the Latrobe Valley

Benson, John W January 1988 (has links) (PDF)
In Australia, industrial relations research has focused almost exclusively on the major industrial relations institutions and their role in the determination of the rules of the workplace. Local workplace industrial relations and the interaction between worker and representatives and enterprise management has been a neglected area of research. This study attempts to rectify this situation. By focusing attention on the workplace a number of important questions are raised that have not been systematically addressed in Australian industrial relations research. In particular, what, if any, is the role of shop stewards in a centralised system dominated by unions, employers and tribunals organised on a state and national basis? If there is a role for shop stewards, how does this role manifest itself in terms of the stewards’ relationships with members, fellow shop stewards, union officials and management? Finally, what factors explain variations in role perceptions, and how does the adoption of a particular role affect the behaviour of shop stewards? (For complete abstract open the document)
