Analysis of the knowledge o fundamental contents of Genetics and Cellular Biology presented by graduating students in Biological Sciences.

Primon, Catia Sueli Fernandes 19 December 2005 (has links)
Biology today is the most talked about science and also the one which gets the largest media coverage. However, that doesn\'t mean that the biological concepts are of public knowledge, neither are they of knowledge of Biology students. The main objective of this research work is to analyze the knowledge of fundamental concepts of Genetics, Molecular Biology and Cellular Biology of undergraduate students, who were majoring in Biological Sciences, in their senior year. We began our work with some selected questions from the National Exam of Biology Courses (?Provão?) for 2002, we chose the ones which involved concepts of Genetics and other correlated disciplines, we analyzed the ENC-BIO/2002 report prepared by the MEC, we prepared questionnaires with the analyzed questions from the ENC-BIO/2002 and distributed them to 72 senior students who were majoring in Biological Sciences, we conducted 33 semi-structured interviews with senior students majoring in Biological Sciences and, finally, we analyzed the results presented by the MEC report and by the interviews. We concluded that the students did not achieve their goals, which were established by the MEC. These goals were related to Genetics and other correlated disciplines and most of them demonstrated only a mechanical learning.

Rates and Predictors of Adolescent Premature Termination: Applying Clinically Significant Change

Bullock, Mariah Meaalii 01 March 2017 (has links)
Premature termination from child and adolescent psychotherapy is a prevalent problem for clients, their families, and mental health services. Rates of premature termination have been estimated at a range of 16-72%. Many variables have been examined as potential predictors of premature termination, yielding inconsistent conclusions. Researchers propose that part of this variability in rates and predictors is due to the inconsistent application of definitions of premature termination. The past literature identifies two main categories of definitions in this line of research: therapist judgment and number of sessions. This study aims to incorporate a relatively new definition, clinically significant change, in the evaluation of premature termination rates and predictor variables in a sample of adolescents receiving treatment in three community mental health clinics. Results showed that 65.7% of the participants were classified as premature terminators under the definition of clinically significant change. Premature termination was significantly correlated with parenting skills and ratings of the therapeutic alliance by both the parent and adolescent. However, the only variable that predicted PT was the therapeutic alliance as rated by the adolescent. It appears that, rather than having a small range of rates and universal predictors of premature termination, it may depend on the definition that is chosen.

Mohlin, Marcus January 2010 (has links)

The following study aims to investigating the effects of an implemented Folkbildning project in Egypt. The overall goal of the project is to reduce poverty and create development. The aim of the intervention has been to develop and strengthen the civil society in Egypt through the methodology of Scandinavian Folkbildning. The target group has been persons in leading positions within civil society organizations (CSO’s) and the aspiration of the study is to evaluate the fulfillment of the project goals in three areas; Folkbildning’s significance on a personal level, on an organizational level, on a societal level.

The procedure of the study has a qualitative approach with both written and oral (recorded) interviews as sources. These sources have later on been systematized in accordance with the evaluative method called Most Significant Change.

The theoretical starting point of the study is based on the development theory of Inglehart and Welzel where so called action resources constitutes the prerequisites of human development and where development is seen as a movement towards an increasing individual ability of choice. The Folkbildning project comprehends two out of three action resources.

The Relations between News Management andStock Price-A Case Study of Soft-World Group

Yu Lin, Hsin 25 August 2011 (has links)
Online game industry has not only been an emerging industry in the twentieth century, but also an industry with the largest economic scale within the digital content category. Soft-World International Corporation was the first gaming company to be listed in Taiwan in March 29th, 2001. By May 31th, 2011, more than 10 gaming companies have been listed on the GreTai Securities Market (GTSM) in Taiwan, making it one of the trading markets in the globe with the most number of gaming companies in it. Moreover, as Korea created online games; Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau prospered them, and China owns the largest online population, Asia has become the most active market for the online game industry in the world. Therefore, studies in online game markets have drawn the attention among local and foreign investors for the past 10 years. In Asian markets, gaming stocks in Taiwan are being highly emphasized; meanwhile, GTSM also stresses the importance of corporate governance and investment environment. Hence, this study ¡§The Relations between News Management and Stock Price ¡V A Case Study of Soft-World Group¡¨ focuses on how gaming companies deal with news pieces. The management team will have a better understanding and control of how stock price is affected by spreading out press releases through the media and making public announcement on the Market Observation Post System. In terms of corporate governance, what are the management behaviors and ways to instantly deal with the media essential to investors who would further make comments about the company and eventually fluctuate the price? This case study gathers and analyzes the historical news, public announcements and stock prices from the two listed companies in Taiwan¡¦s leading gaming enterprise, Soft-World Group ¡V the parent company, Soft-World and its subsidiary, Chinese Gamer .

Outcomes of group audiologic rehabilitation for adults with unaided hearing impairment and their significant others

Habanec, Olga Lucía January 2013 (has links)
Aim: To evaluate an audiologic rehabilitation program previously piloted in the U.S. (Kelly-Campbell, in review) for unaided hearing-impaired working adults that was also modified to include their significant others.

Method: In this quasi-randomised repeated measures waitlist design, forty-eight participants (24 hearing-impaired adults and their 24 normal hearing significant others) aged 50-64 years were randomised into either a non-waitlist group (immediate treatment), or a waitlist group (treatment after 12-weeks). In these groups, participant couples attended three weekly 2-hour group sessions and completed health-related quality of life (HRQOL) assessments. Treatment outcomes for hearing-impaired adults (HIAs) were measured from self and significant other (SO) proxy reports of the Communication Profile for the Hearing Impaired (CPHI; Demorest & Erdman, 1986; 1987). Treatment outcomes for SOs were measured from self-reports of the Significant Other Scale for Hearing Disability (SOS-HEAR; Scarinci, Worrall & Hickson, 2009b). An investigation of the effect of treatment on the congruence of SO-proxy versus HIA HRQOL measures was also undertaken.
Results: A series of analyses of variance and repeated-measures t-tests examined HRQOL outcomes for HIAs and their SOs between pre-treatment, post-treatment, and at 12-weeks follow-up. Results suggest a significant effect of time for all HRQOL assessments, with gender effects found for CPHI measures, but not for SOS-HEAR measures. Medium to large effect sizes were revealed for both HIAs and their SOs.
Conclusions: Group AR appears to be a beneficial treatment approach for reducing the consequences of hearing impairment for HIAs and for their normal hearing SOs.

GRADUATES’ PERSPECTIVES ON TRANSITION FROM COLLEGE GRADUATION TO THE WORKPLACE: A QUALITATIVE APPROACH

Hendricks, Katelyn B. 01 January 2014 (has links)
This article explored the experiences of college graduates in their program of study and during their transition from college graduation to the workplace. Factors focused on were perceptions of program and curriculum, employment preparation, connections to faculty and relationships with family members. Six individuals who graduated from the University of Kentucky Family Sciences (FAM) Department were interviewed. Participants openly shared positive and negative experiences. The study was examined through two theoretical lenses: Glen Elder’s life course perspective and Ludwig von Bertalanffy’s general systems theory. Participant interviews were transcribed verbatim and transcriptions were analyzed with inductive coding. Central themes that emerged included connections and networking, feelings in classes/curriculum/program, support and challenges within family relationships, transferring majors, ambiguity and lack of direction and graduate school. Findings from the study showed that graduates generally felt positively about their program of study and its translation to the workplace, though challenges were experienced in understanding what FAM was and what type of job it could lead to. Connections and networking within personal and professional relationships were found to be a crucial component of experiences.

Κουτσιούκη, Χρυσάνθη 08 May 2012 (has links)

La mort comme origine / The death as origin

Noyon-Collier, Laurent 21 June 2014 (has links)
This research is about the question of death, and her effects in the clinical practice of the psychologist clinician directed by the psychoanalysis. It ensues from it the resumption of the question of the death in the works of Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan, and other authors, and a possible criticism of the concept of death drive. Thereby, the death suggests as confidentially connected to the question of the desire. The postmodern social link marking a tendency to close at the same time these two dimensions, the question of the speech which underlies it as it does not spell, can join to the passage of a subject getting organized around the fantasy, to a subject getting organized around image, what underlines the difference to be operated between image and imagination. It ensues from it for the author, the thorough review of three questions who question him most in clinical : that he has to be the desire of the clinician there to operate for cure by the words, as well as the involvement of the anxiety and for the transfer in this type of therapeutic support.
