Förebyggande förbättringsarbete med Design for Six Sigma

Ericsson, Evelina January 2009 (has links)
Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is a further development of the Six Sigma draft to carry through preventing quality measures in developing and designing of new products and processes. With increasing demands on enterprises development processes to be more safety and faster the need of DFSS arise as a product, process and service development concept in the organisations. Design for Six Sigma aims to improve and structure the development process of an organisation and consider the application of the innovation problem solving. The concept aims to leave the structure of the traditional Six Sigma concept and instead, from an innovative perspective, search for new solutions to existing problems. The concept constitute of a toolbox with a lot of quality tools that are divided into phases in a development model. Combined with the organizations project model the Design for Six Sigma concept can give rise to excellent results in the work with developing and designing of new products and processes. The condition to succeed is that the draft has been established and accepted with the organizations collaborator. This thesis work summarizes the contents of the Design for Six Sigma concept. The concentration of the performance has been the underlying theory behind the DFSS draft together with the contents of the methodology and the included tools. Detta examensarbete sammanfattar innehållet i Design for Six Sigma-konceptet.

Creating Total Value Engineering Through Combining Design for Manufacturing and Design for Six Sigma Constructs

Christensen, David Ryan 08 July 2014 (has links) (PDF)
The modern manufacturing world has been driven to compete in a more international and interconnected system. This has led to increased focus upon frameworks and architectures to guarantee quality, high market acceptance, and reduce cost. Modern manufacturing design processes evolved largely from Henry Ford at Ford Motor Company, and Alfred Sloan at General Motors. Their structures embody two different focuses on quality and value engineering which have influenced many recent design frameworks. In the 1970s a heavy emphasis was placed upon Design for Manufacturing, which uses group technology, commonality of processes, and continual focus to reduce part count. Some companies have desired a design process that better accounts for new market needs and Voice of the Customer changes, allowing them to break out of the old processes by using a new framework called Design for Six Sigma. Contextual and survey analysis contrasting DFSS and DFM showed these systems have different definitions of what creates value; which causes a different focus on how to improve value. As the market frequently errs at knowing when to apply DFM or DFSS, using a simple case study of a product with high part and assembly cost, teams were challenged to create a better flashlight using both DFM for part reduction, and DFSS for function improvement. The aim was to increase value. Value has been defined by the formula: value = (performance + capability) / cost or as value = function/cost. Results from the case study combining DFM and DFSS constructs demonstrate a total value engineering construct. It was also shown that DFM indicated effectiveness for a slow-changing market with cost reduction focus, and DFSS demonstrated effectiveness for analyzing continually changing market needs. Disruptive innovations can replace a formerly lull market, for which DFM can be completely unprepared; while DFSS is not effective in slow product-change markets. Incorporating the best of DFSS and DFM creates a Total Value Engineering framework.

Análise comparativa da aplicação do Programa Seis Sigma em processos de manufatura e serviços / Comparative analyses of Six Sigma application in manufacturing and service process

Galvani, Luis Ricardo 16 September 2010 (has links)
Competitiveness is an important factor for any organization success. The Six Sigma program, which has been used by companies like Motorola and GE since the 1980\'s, has proved to be a successful way to make any company improve all areas of business and therefore, become more competitive. Although it was created and has been growing in manufacturing successfully, its implementation can reach a much wider field of application. In the last few years, some service corporations also been benefited by the use of this program. However, different from manufacturing, its application is less popular and still restricted to few companies that have already implemented it, which explains limited case studies and projects published in the literature. This paper has the goal to perform a comparative analysis of Six Sigma program implementation in manufacturing as well as in services process and consequently, comprehend the differences and advantages of its application in these different fields. The results of this study, which are based on literature review and also a survey with service companies, have led to some significant similarities and differences like the profile of the Black Belt, project time execution, CTQ use, the nature and availability of the data and application of techniques and tools. Further research, can certainly contribute to the expansion of the Six Sigma methodology improvement in service quality.

Förbättringsmöjligheter i en testutrustning för transmissioner inom anläggningsmaskinsindustrin / Improvement possibilities in a test equipment fortransmissions in the construction machinery industry

Dåverklo, Josefin, Eriksson, Ebba January 2019 (has links)
All manufacturing requires some form of quality control to be able to ensure that a product will meet the customers requirements. Volvo Construction Equipment AB has a TDI station, Test Delivery Inspection, for transmissions. They experience a lack of insight and knowledge of the tests that has been done and therefore the purpose of this project is to investigate and improve Volvo CE's test equipment for transmissions and its reliability. The aim is to provide improvement proposals to the organization as well as a plan for the implementation, follow-up and control of the process. The study is an improvement project and therefore the methodology Six Sigma and parts of the work process DMAIC are used to accomplish the study. The method is adapted for improvement projects and is primarily used by larger producing companies. For data collection, both quantitative and qualitative methods are used. These methods are; the use of existing data from the organization, brainstorming and two different MSA tests aimed at examining the machine and the human's influence on the process. Several quality tools were helpful when analyzing the results and the two factors that has the biggest impact on the test equipment's results is the impact from the human and the test equipment itself such as the variation of the test equipment. An initial approach to reducing the impact of these factors and thereby making the test equipment more reliable is to make sure that all routines are followed and ensure that the method for extracting data from the test equipment is right. The conclusions are that the tolerance limits needs to be checked again just because they are based on personal experience and the process can be controlled with statistical process control. To follow up on the results, the same tests can be performed repeatedly and compared with this project. The project can be described as a standardized working method for similar improvement projects and can also be applied to other processes.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Henrique Monte Mor Silva.pdf: 1406942 bytes, checksum: 7199e7f52d42745812d5c3d4ff245245 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-02-24 / As the competitiveness increases, organizations seek for practice and continuous improvement techniques. One approach that has been outstanding, both in academic and professional field, is Six Sigma. This approach provides several benefits for organizations. However, its implementation is often inhibited by numerous barriers. Several authors seek to study these barriers and to classify them according to their relevance levels, which may vary according to the characteristics of each organization. However, there have been many contradictions between the authors on this aspect. Moreover, there are few studies on the relevance of these barriers in relation to Brazilian organizations. How would these barriers be classified in level of importance when considering Brazilian organizations? In this case, would this classification change in relation to organizational characteristics? To try to answer these questions, this study proposed to conduct a survey that has involved an extensive literature review by which it was possible to identify 16 main existent barriers. This study is characterized as an applied research concerning the nature, with quantitative approach and exploratory and correlational goals. To this end, it is intended to use the survey as a method and the questionnaire as data collection instrument. Brazilian organizations selected for the study were confined to the automotive sector. In total, the study population is made up of 529 organizations, by which were obtained 40 valid questionnaires. The study revealed that, with relation to the analyzed organizations, the most important barrier is the lack of skill and training suitable for the implementation of Six Sigma. The study also revealed that organizational characteristics such as size or type (multinational or local) are able to influence the barriers relevance order.
