O futsal no ambiente escolar extracurricular: as perspectivas e objetivos de ensino de Instrutores/Treinadores atuantes em escolas particulares da cidade de Ribeirão Preto / SP / The futsal in the extracurricular schoolar environment: perspectives and teaching objectives of Coaches working in private schools in the city of Ribeirão Preto / SP

Ricci, Christiano Streb 19 February 2018 (has links)
The aim of this study was to analyse the meaning attributed to practice, described by Futsal Coaches involved in the extracurricular environment of private schools in the city of Ribeirão Preto - SP. It is estimated that in Brazil about 20 million people practice futsal on unofficial way and about 300 thousand athletes play futsal with some kind of formal link to sport institutions. The option of investigate coaches was due to their relevance, because they occupy a central role in the process of sports training. The Grounded Theory, which is a qualitative research methodology, was applied for the analysis of responses of semi-structured interviews with seven futsal coaches on private high schools extracurricular sport activities. The results indicated that coaches justify different goals when teaching futsal: to teach values, to stimulate the development of a students sports culture, to stimulate the pursuit of a sports career and the formation of competitive teams capable of winning formal games and scholar tournaments. The results also indicated that the coaches agency are influenced by the hegemonic model of high performance sports. The modus operandi described by them to select students for the formal competition games, the valorisation of the victory, and the behaviour in the bench, closely resemble the one observed in the environment of the high-performance sports. Therefore, it was observed a predominance of the use of the official meaning of sports practice reproduced in the school extracurricular environment. Such reproduction is causing unequal participation of students in formal school games and tournaments. It was concluded that this extracurricular school environment of sports practices needs to undergo a process of resignification, to favour a larger participation of all students who are interested in some sports

The subfield of american football in the state of São Paulo from 2015 to 2017: ruptures, approximations and power disputes between leagues and federation

Morales Júnior, Valter Ruiz 09 March 2018 (has links)
American football is a recent sport in Brazil. It is regulated and systematized by the Brazilian Confederation of American Football (CBFA). The context of American football in the state of São Paulo (SP) during the period between 2012 and 2015 was based on a power dispute for the right to organize the sport. The body associated with the CBFA was the Paulista League of American Football (LPFA), but in 2012, teams dissatisfied with the management of this institution broke relations with the same and created the Federation of American Football of the State of São Paulo (FEFASP) . Reinforcing the dispute for power and symbolic capital within this subfield, mainly in the entity-team relationship that remained until the beginning of 2015, when it was announced the linkage of the teams from LPFA to FEFASP, resulting in the end of the first. In this way, the following questions emerged: How is football organized in the state of São Paulo? How did the process of affiliation of the LPFA teams with FEFASP take place? How do the subjects\' actions regarding the search for power and social legitimacy in the organization of American football in the state? What are the objectives of the teams and entities that organize the sport? Due to the recent insertion of American football in the country, the lack of research and academic information in the area and the decisive participation and protagonist of team managers in such processes of division and linkage of regulatory institutions, the objective of this research project was to investigate and delimit the process of organizing the power structures established in this sports modality in the state of SP from 2015, from the point of view of team leaders. This work used as theoretical reference for discussion and analysis of its object of research, sociological categories of the work of Pierre Bourdieu. Through the analysis of responses from six initial semi-structured interviews, the data were organized and analyzed through the Thematic Analysis, so that three main themes emerged: a) Beginning, with the reasons that contributed to the linkage, b) Process, performance of the agents and agreements that resulted in the linkage; and c) Developments, with the consequences arising from the linking process, as new disputes within the subfield, such as the dispute between teams of the capital and the interior, with habitus based on the geographical location of the leaders according to their teams. It is possible to verify that the analytical categories proposed by Bourdieu help to unravel the existing relations in the space investigated. This work aimed to investigate a specific cut of American football in the state of SP, which made it possible to understand how the linkage developed and what altered in the subfield from it. From this work, it was possible to verify the existence of some doxas of the Brazilian sports field, as the necessity of the bureaucratic organization to be related to a confederative structure.

“Governing” the “Girl Effect” through Sport, Gender and Development? Postcolonial Girlhoods, Constellations of Aid and Global Corporate Social Engagement

Hayhurst, Lyndsay 19 January 2012 (has links)
The “Girl Effect” is becoming a growing global movement that assumes young women are catalysts capable of bringing social and economic change to their families, communities and countries, particularly in the Two-Thirds World. The evolving discourse associated with the Girl Effect movement holds implications for sport, gender and development (SGD) programs. Increasingly, SGD interventions are funded and implemented by transnational corporations (TNCs) as part of the mounting portfolio of global corporate social engagement (GCSE) initiatives in development. Drawing on postcolonial feminist international relations theory, cultural studies of girlhood, sociology of sport and governmentality studies, the purpose of this study was to explore: a) how young women in Eastern Uganda experience SGD programs; and b) how constellations of aid relations among a sport transnational corporation (STNC), international non-governmental organization (INGO), and southern non-governmental organization (SNGO) impacted and influenced the ways that SGD programs are executed, implemented and “taken up” by young women. This study used qualitative methods, including 35 semi-structured in-depth interviews with organizational staff members and young women, participant observation and document analysis in order to investigate how a SGD program in Eastern Uganda that is funded by a STNC and INGO used martial arts to build young women’s self-defence skills to help address gender-based, sexual and domestic violence. Results revealed martial arts programming increased confidence, challenged gender norms, augmented social networks and provided social entrepreneurial opportunities. At the same time, the program also attempted to govern young women’s sexuality and health, but did so while ignoring culturally distinct gender relations. Findings also highlighted the colonial residue and power of aid relations, STNC’s brand authority over SGD programming, the involvement of Western actors in locating “authentic” subaltern stories about social entrepreneurial work in SGD, and how the politics of the “global” sisterhood is enmeshed in saving “distant others” in gender and development work. Overall, this study found that the drive for GCSE, when entangled with neo-liberal globalization, impels actors working in SGD to look to social innovation and entrepreneurship as strategies for survival in an increasingly competitive international development climate.

Through soccer is possible to see the transience of modern life, frailty and at the same time, the strength of ties human – I mean relationships and linkages labor loyalties to groups and institutions, the (re) construction of representations of the nation (national identity), new processes of discipline, among others. From this context, that research focused on the "protagonist of the show" - the football player, especially when he makes the transition to the post-career, as I call here: the "second half of life". What kind of strategies and instruments the football players did use and what they still do on this transition? Why is it so hard to quit playing soccer professionally? To answer these and other questions surrounding this social phenomenon, I analyze from Pierre Bourdieu’s theory by making use of the concepts of "field" and "capital". I want to think about the process of "conversion" and "reconversion" of the many accumulated capitals along the trajectories and along the repositioning of field that took place in the passage of the condition of the player to former player. I raise the hypothesis that the football player’s career is formed as a "liminal condition" to explain the difficulties involved in this passage. I yet understand that the football player’s career is marked by a series of ambiguities as the position of the football player in the civilizing process (Elias, 1993). The research field was the state of Ceará. That research sought to answer the question of whether there is a labor market and a network of assistance to former football player in the state. The aim is understand the local reality, taking the trajectory of four former football players who played and still live in the state of Ceará as the main apparatus of this empirical research.

Kiouranis, Taiza Daniela Seron 24 February 2017 (has links)
The Brazilian School Games (JEBs) are a competitive sports event held since 1969. Throughout its history, JEBs have been redesigned and managed by different government agencies and institutions. Since 2005, the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) has become the main organizer, with the support of the Ministry of Sport (ME) and Globo Organizations (OG). This new scenario pointed to a possible modernization of these events. Considering this new phase, we established as a central objective of this study: to analyze the development of the Brazilian School Games in the period between 2005 and 2014, from the point of view of its organizational model and the dynamics of agents, institutions and structures involved. In order to meet the proposed objective, the present study is a qualitative and quantitative research, with data from documents (JEBs’ General Regulations, official final results bulletins, journal published by the COB) and interviews (two agents from ME and one from COB). In order to analyze the data, we take advantage of studies that discuss the field of sport in the contemporary world, as well as the theoretical-methodological assumptions of Pierre Bourdieu and his Theory of Fields. From the results of this research, it is noted that the JEBs in the period from 2005 to 2014 presented several symptoms of modernization, such as the guarantee of financing; The expansion of the number of students and schools attended; The increase in the number of modalities; The modernization of facilities, both in terms of sports competition, and in terms of hosting delegations; The international projection of the event, of students and teachers involved; The technical and standardized requirement, taking care of the regulatory institutions; The insertion of activities that address broader global themes such as sustainability; And the presence of the media in the placement of the JEBs and the consequent opening for the entry of sponsors. However, we noticed that sports performance remained a legitimating background, sustaining the old belief of school sport as the "redeemer" of Brazilian sport. In the agent discourse there is a strong tendency towards the idea of sports talent and the formation of a base for the top of the high income, a fact that points to a subfield dominated by the field of sports. Thus, these events have been configured by the reproduction of models of the sport of yield, demonstrating a reproduction of structures of power. Thus, the work progresses in the sense that the JEBs between 2005 and 2014 transition between modernization and reproduction, a "conservative modernization" or a "modernized reproduction".

A sociological critique of the legacy of the London 2012 Paralympic Games

Kerr, Shane January 2015 (has links)
This thesis presents a sociological critique of the concept of legacy as it surrounded the London 2012 Paralympic Games. A sociological approach was adopted to challenge much of the spontaneous sociology that surrounds the ascendancy of legacy within the Olympic and Paralympic space. Legacy, disability and the Paralympic Games are the predominant structures of the research problem. The literature review attempts to present a sociology of the sociological approaches in these fields. Underpinning the research design is Bourdieu et al. s (1991) epistemological hierarchy which consists of and proceeds from the break , the construction of a conceptual framework to the empirical design. This hierarchy contributed to the repositioning of legacy from the pursuit of cause and effect, or rather away from the pursuit of legitimacy and illegitimacy, of London 2012 to a study of the proposed and imposed causes and effects, legitimations and illegitimations of it. Aligned to this repositioning is the primary collection of data through interviews with five different institutional fields: government, media, corporate sponsors, disability sport and disability institutions. The research findings present a positional analysis of the inter- and intra-relations of these respective fields. In the discussion key symbolic struggles and issues are presented for each field with particular attention given to the development of the positive leaning and legitimising best ever Paralympic narrative and to the commercial and political legitimacy of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. It is concluded that legacy is ultimately a symbolic struggle of different visions of respective agents and institutions that are unable to achieve these absolute visions or ends.
