Assim, estudos dos processos físicos e químicos são importantes para avaliar as mudanças de origem natural ou antrópica sobre os meios. O estudo teve como objetivos avaliar os atributos químicos e físicos de um Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo em três microbacias hidrográficas, em áreas de vegetação nativa, pastagem e cana-de-açúcar bem como analisar a ocorrência das áreas de maior escoamento superficial e, consequentemente, maior predisposição ao processo erosivo nas microbacias. A área de estudo compreendeu a microbacia hidrográfica do Córrego da Fazenda Glória, Município de Taquaritinga, Estado de São Paulo. Para a amostragem do solo foi realizada a caracterização do volume superficial, e essas amostras foram coletadas na superfície das vertentes das microbacias e em cada uso/ocupação selecionado. Os resultados obtidos foram avaliados por meio da comparação de médias para o teste de Tukey a 5%. A partir das curvas de nível da carta topográfica e dos pontos levantados com receptor geodésico de navegação com metodologia diferencial foi gerado uma malha de pontos georreferenciados em cada microbacia, para gerar o modelo numérico do terreno a partir da incorporação dos divisores de água e da rede de drenagem. As avaliações dos atributos físicos e químicos dos solos nas microbacias hidrográficas e em diferentes tipos de uso e ocupação demonstraram uma diferença significativa entre as áreas. (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The removal of original vegetation cover and the deployment of pastures and sugarcane, with inadequate management practices, cause changes in the chemical, physical and biological properties of soils, with limitations on agricultural use and susceptibility to erosion. Thus, studies of physical and chemical processes are important to assess changes of natural development or anthropic on the means. The study was conducted to evaluate the physical and chemical attributes of a Ultisol in three watersheds, in areas of native vegetation, pasture and sugarcane, as well as, analyze the occurrence of the areas of greatest runoff and, consequently, greater predisposition to erosive processes in watersheds. The study area was the Córrego da Fazenda Glória watershed, Municipality of Taquaritinga, State of São Paulo. Soil sampling was performed to characterize the superficial volume, and these samples were collected on the surface of the watersheds and in three different land use selected. The results obtained were evaluated by the comparison of averages for the Tukey test at 5%. From the curves in a topographical map and from points collected with geodetic navigation receiver in a differential methodology was generated a digital elevation method in each watersheds. The assessments of physical and chemical attributes of soils in hydrographic watersheds and different land uses demonstrated a significant difference between the areas. Soil management altered the chemical and physical attributes impact in the soil superficial layers. Effect of biochar on selected soil physical properties of sandy soil with low agricultural suitability

Thesis (MScAgric)--Stellenbosch University, 2012 / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Biochar has been labelled to be a key factor in the global carbon mitigation act and has been described as the modern day equivalent (terra nova) to the terra preta dark earth soils of the Brazilian Amazon. Globally biochar has been evaluated as a means to improve soil fertility and to mitigate greenhouse gases (GHGs). Little research has however been published on the effects of biochar incorporation on soil physical properties. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of pine sawmill waste derived biochar (locally-produced via slow pyrolysis – 450°C) on selected soil physical properties, soil-water dynamics and crop production and- performance, when amended to a Kroonstad (Kd 1000 – Morgendal) soil form. This soil form is commonly found in the Western Cape area (South Africa) and can be classified as having low agricultural suitability for perennial- and annual crop species. Two pot trials were carried out in an atmospheric controlled greenhouse, where winter wheat and green beans respectively were planted, with five different application levels of biochar (0t/ha, 1t/ha, 10t/ha, 50t/ha and 200t/ha). Soil physical properties namely, water-stable aggregates, bulk density and water-retention capacity along with physiochemical characterisation of the sandy soil and biochar was determined. The water-use was monitored throughout the trials (evapotranspiration, volumetric water content and biomass water use efficiency, BWUE). The above- and below ground (specific leaf traits for the green bean and the root structural development for the winter wheat) biomass was collected and analysed at harvest. There was significantly higher volumetric water content measured for the 50t/ha and 200t/ha biochar treatments. This effect can be ascribed due to a change in the soil’s tortuosity and porosity where more meso- and micro-pores were present as the biochar rate increased. The same results were evident when a water-retention curve was established in vitro by means of the sandbox method. The bulk densities were only significantly lower for the 200t/ha biochar treatments. The wheat root systems differed greatly among the fertilised biochar treatments: the 50t/ha and 200t/ha treatments had a more complex fibrous root system (more extensive branching and thinner roots) than 0t/ha, 1t/ha and 10t/ha application levels. This is attributed to the increased water-holding capacity along with a reduction of N- and P availability with increasing addition of biochar. Several leaf traits were measured for the green bean crops; however the leaf nitrogen- and carbon content, chlorophyll content index (CCI) and carbon isotope fractionation yielded the most interesting findings. Concerning the fertilised biochar treatments, there was established that the 10t/ha treatments had the highest leaf nitrogen- and carbon content. The leaf chlorophyll content did not differ significantly between the fertilised biochar treatments; however a very interesting observation was evident regarding the measured leaf CCI for the unfertilised treatments. A decreasing trend and lower leaf CCI was measured as the biochar application levels increased. This effect was ascribed to be due to a decrease in N uptake by the plants as the biochar application increased, the C/N ratio also increased, and this leading to N immobilisation. The lowest leaf carbon isotope fractionation was measured for the 10t/ha fertilised treatments and is inversely correlated with BWUE and therefore endorses the conclusion that the 10t/ha biochar application had a positive effect on the long term water use efficiency for the green bean plants. Biochar promoted aggregation in the sand-rhizosphere interface for winter wheat, increased water-holding capacity and enhanced crop performance for green beans. The findings reported here provide new information on the effect of biochar on the structural development of sandy soil, combined with biochar- and root growth effects for winter wheat; along with detailed interpretations of specific leaf traits associated with crop production for commercial green beans. The addition of biochar at low application levels (approximately 1-10t/ha to 15 cm depth) increased the biomass yield and water use efficiency of the crop species. Besides long term carbon storage, biochar can have immediate positive effects on the physical properties of sand and plant growth. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Biokoolstof word beskou as ‘n sleutel komponent rakende die wet op globale koolstofvermindering en is al beskryf as die moderne ekwivalent (terra nova) van die terra preta donker-aardgronde wat aangetref word in die Brasiliaanse Amasone. Wêreldwyd word biokoolstof tans geëvalueer met die doel om grondvrugbaarheid te verbeter asook kweekhuisgasse (KHG) se nadelige gevolge te verlig. Min navorsing was tot dus ver gedoen rakende die uitwerking met toediening van biokoolstof op grondfisiese-eienskappe. Die doel van hierdie studie was om die effek van biokoolstof, wat afkomstig is van denne-saagmeul-afval (plaaslik geproduseer is en d.m.v. stadige perolise - 450°C) te evalueer aangaande die volgende faktore: geselekteerde grondfisiese-eienskappe, grond-waterdinamika interaksie en die uitwerking op gewasproduksie; met toediening aan 'n Kroonstad (Kd 1000 - Morgendal) grondvorm. Hierdie grondvorm word as algemeen in die Wes-Kaap (Suid-Afrika) bestempel en kan geklassifiseer word as ‘n lae-geskiktheid landbougrond vir meerjarige- en eenjarige gewasse. Twee potproewe is uitgevoer onder beheerde atmosfeer in ‘n kweekhuis, waar winter koring en groenbone geplant is, met vyf verskillende behandelings van biokoolstof (0t/ha, 1t/ha, 10t/ha, 50t/ha en 200t/ha). Die volgende grondfisiese-eienskappe is ondersoek, naamlik water-stabiele aggregaat formasie, bulkdigtheid en waterhouvermoë, asook die fisiochemiese karakterisering van die sanderige grond en biokoolstof wat gebuik is. Waterverbruik is gedurende die proewe gekontroleer (evapotranspirasie, volumetriese waterinhoud en die biomassa se water verbruiksdoeltreffendheid, BWVD). Die bo- en ondergrondse biomassa, spesifiek die blaareienskappe van die groenboontjie en die strukturele ontwikkeling van die winter koring se wortels, is tydens die oes ondersoek en ontleed. Die volumetriese waterinhoud was betekenisvol, asook hoër vir die 50t/ha en 200t/ha behandelings. Hierdie effek word toegeskryf as gevolg van 'n verandering in die grond se kronkeligheid en porositeit; waar meer meso- en mikroporieë teenwoordig was soos die biokoolstof inhoud toegeneem het. Dieselfde resultate was verkry met die opstelling van ‘n water-retensie kurwe in vitro d.m.v. die Sandboks metode. Bulkdigtheid was slegs betekenisvol verskilled asook aansienlik laer vir die 200t/ha biokoolstof behandelings. Die koring se wortelstelsel het drasties verskil tussen die verskillende bemeste biokoolstof behandelings: die 50t/ha en 200t/ha behandelings het 'n meer komplekse en veselagtige wortelstelsel gevorm (hoër graad van vertakking en dunner wortels was aanwesig) as die 0t/ha, 1t/ha en 10t/ha behandelings. Die effek word toegeskryf aan die toenemende waterhouvermoë, tesame met 'n tekort aan N- en P-beskikbaarheid soos die biokoolstof toedieningshoeveelhede verhoog het. Verskeie blaareienskappe is gemeet vir die groenboon gewasse, maar die blaar stikstof- en koolstof-inhoud, chlorofil inhoud indeks (CII) en koolstof-isotoop fraksionering het die mees interessante bevindinge opgelewer. Die hoogste blaar stikstof-en koolstof-inhoud is gemeet vir die 10t/ha bemeste biokoolstof behandelings. Die blaar chlorofil inhoud het nie beduidend verskil tussen die bemeste biokoolstof behandelings nie, maar daar was egter 'n baie interessante waarneming vir die onbemeste biokoolstof behandelings. ‘n Tendens was aanwesig waar die CII afgeneem het soos die biokoolstof toedieningshoeveelheid ook afgeneem het vir die onbemeste behandelings. Die effek word toegeskryf as gevolg van 'n afname in N-opname deur die plant soos die biokoolstof toedieningshoeveelheid verhoog is en tot gevolg gehad het dat die C/N-verhouding ook toegeneem het, wat gelei het tot N-immobilisasie. Die laagste blaar koolstof-isotoop fraksionering was geassioseer met die 10t/ha bemeste biokoolstof behandelings en is omgekeerd gekorreleerd met BWVD en onderskryf dus die gevolgtrekking dat die 10t/ha biokoolstof behandeling 'n positiewe uitwerking het op die langtermyn waterverbruiksdoeltreffendheid vir groenboontjie plante. Biokoolstof het aggregasie bevorder binne die wortelsone, asook deurgans die waterhouvermoë verhoog en gewasproduksie verbeter. Hierdie bevindinge lewer nuwe inligting oor die effek van biokoolstof op die strukturele ontwikkeling van sanderige grond en die gekombineerde interaksie met biokoolstof toediening en hoe dit wortegroei beïnvloed van winter koring; asook 'n gedetailleerde interpretasie van spesifieke blaareienskappe wat verband hou met die produksie van gewasse vir kommersiële verbouing soos die groenboontjie. Identificação e caracterização do comportamento físico de solos coesos no estado do Ceará. / Identification and characterization of the physical behavior of hardsetting soils in the state of Ceara.

Os solos coesos ocorrem por quase toda a faixa litorânea brasileira ocupada pelos Tabuleiros Costeiros, e caracterizam-se por apresentar um incremento acentuado na sua resistência, a qual causa restrições no seu preparo e no crescimento das plantas. Isso ocorre devido ao mesmo apresentar-se duro a extremamente duro, quando seco e friável quando úmido. Dentre os Estados da região nordeste que possuem uma extensa área litorânea ocupada pelos Tabuleiros está o Ceará, com mais de 10.000 km2 ocupados por solos que podem ser enquadrados dentro do contexto de solos coesos. Com isso levantou-se a hipótese de que os solos coesos do Estado do Ceará apresentam as mesmas restrições físicas e químicas encontradas em outros solos pertencentes aos Tabuleiros Costeiros. O objetivo geral desta tese foi identificar a ocorrência de solos coesos no Estado do Ceará, bem como, avaliar o seu comportamento através do uso de atributos morfológicos, físicos, micromorfológicos e análise de imagens. Para alcançar o objetivo geral foram estabelecidos três objetivos específicos. Cada objetivo específico contemplou um trabalho e é apresentado como um capítulo desta tese. No primeiro procurou-se identificar e caracterizar a ocorrência de solos coesos no Ceará, usando atributos morfológicos, químicos e físicos. No segundo, foi feita uma análise do comportamento de um Argissolo Acinzentado coeso através do uso de atributos físicos, especificamente: resistência tênsil (RT), resistência do solo à penetração (RP), densidade do solo (Ds) e distribuição da porosidade total (PT). No terceiro e último trabalho realizou-se um detalhamento microscópico dos solos estudados, dando ênfase à distribuição, tamanho e orientação dos poros nas áreas adensadas e abertas (menos adensadas) do horizonte coeso, através do uso da análise de imagens. Os resultados do primeiro trabalho mostraram que os horizontes coesos encontrados no Ceará, apresentam-se semelhantes aos horizontes coesos encontrados em outros Estados brasileiros. Os resultados referentes ao segundo trabalho evidenciaram que os valores de RT, RP e Ds, mostraram-se mais elevados no solo coeso do Ceará, do que em outras áreas de Tabuleiros Costeiros estudadas no Brasil. No terceiro trabalho foi observado que o adensamento natural existente nos horizontes coesos do Ceará, além de influenciar a quantidade de poros, também influencia o seu formato e a sua orientação, e que as áreas adensadas, medidas por análise de imagem, foram os principais fatores que influenciaram o espaço poroso do solo, sendo responsável pelo aumento na resistência do solo. / The hardsetting soils may be found for almost the whole Brazilian coastal area of the Coastal Tablelands. They are characterized by presenting an accentuated increment in their mechanical resistance, which causes restrictions in the soil preparation and in the plants growth. These happen due to hardsetting soils become hard to extremely hard when dry, and crumbly when humid. Ceara is one of the northeast States that possess an extensive coastal area of Coastal Tablelands, with more than 10.000 km2 of hardsetting soils. Taking this into account, it was hypothesized that hardsetting soils of Ceara State had the same physical and chemical restrictions identified in hardsetting soils in other of Coastal Tablelands. The general objective of this thesis was to identify the occurrence of hardsetting soils in the Ceara State as well as to evaluate their behavior by using the morphological, physical, and micromorphological attributes, and image analysis. To accomplish the general objective three specific objectives were established. Each specific objective led to the accomplishment of one research, and is presented as a chapter of this thesis. In the first research was identified and characterized the occurrence of hardsetting soils in Ceara by using morphologic, chemical and physical attributes. In the second research, it was studied the behavior of a hardsetting Gray Argisol by using soil physical attributes, specifically: tensile strength (RT), soil resistance to penetration (RP), soil bulk density (Ds), and pore size distribution (PT). In the last research, the soil micromorphological features were studied, giving emphasis to the distribution, size and orientation of the pores in the more denser and less denser areas of the hardsetting horizon, by using image analysis. The results of the first research showed that the hardsetting horizons found in Ceara are similar to the hardsetting horizons found in other Brazilian States. The results regarding the second research indicated that the RT, RP and Ds values were higher in the hardsetting soil of Ceara than those measured in other hardsetting soils of the Coastal Tablelands. In the third research was observed that the existent natural compaction in the hardsetting horizons of Ceara influences the amount of pores as well as their shape and orientation, and that the denser areas, measured by image analysis, were the main factor that influenced the soil porosity, being responsible for the increase in the soil mechanical resistance.

Sendo a condutividade hidráulica do solo um parâmetro que traduz a facilidade com que a água se movimenta ao longo do perfil de solo, sua determinação, principalmente no campo, torna-se imprescindível, visto que o movimento da água no solo está diretamente relacionado à produção das culturas agrícolas. Com isso, a aplicação de um método confiável que quantifique a condutividade hidráulica versus umidade, a função ( ) q K , certamente contribuirá muito para uma correta avaliação dos resultados, principalmente tendo em conta a grande variabilidade dessa função devido à variabilidade natural das características do solo. Neste trabalho, testou-se o método do perfil instantâneo com o objetivo de avaliar a função ( ) q K com e sem a suposição de gradiente unitário e também o seu comportamento com relação aos os horizontes pedológicos do solo. A determinação da função foi feita usando tensiômetros com manômetros de mercúrio instalados às profundidades de 0,1; 0,2; 0,3; 0,4; 0,5; 0,6; 0,7; 0,8; 0,9; 1,0; 1,1 e 1,2 m e curvas de retenção determinadas para as mesmas profundidades, num Latossolo Vermelho Distrófico argissólico A moderado textura média, localizado no campo experimental da Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz", Universidade de São Paulo. A análise dos resultados foi feita pelo teste F de análise de variância, a fim de testar o paralelismo, a igualdade dos interceptos e a coincidência entre as retas lnK versus q, considerando e não considerando a suposição do gradiente unitário. Além disso, foram feitos também testes de similaridade da função ( ) q K de cada profundidade do solo pelo índice de concordância de Willmott (1981). Com base na análise dos resultados pode-se dizer que, com os procedimentos utilizados de delimitação da área para inundação e redistribuição da água, podem ser empregados modelos simples que consideram unitário o gradiente de potencial total e que, pela comparação feita entre as profundidades, a separação do perfil do solo em horizontes pedológicos parece seguir a separação em camadas com funções ( ) q K semelhantes, apenas a partir da profundidade 0,6 m. / The soil hydraulic conductivity is a parameter that quantifies the ability of the soil to conduct water along the soil profile. Hence its field determination is indispensable, since soil water movement is directly related to the field crop productions. Thus, the use of an adequate method that assesses the hydraulic conductivity as a function of soil-water content, the ( ) q K function, certainly will very contribute to a proper evaluation of results, mainly if it is considered the great variability of this function as a result of the natural variability of the soil characteristics. In this work, the instantaneous profile method was tested with the objective to evaluate a) the ( ) q K function taking and not taking into consideration the assumption of unit gradient and b) the behaviour of the ( ) q K function with respect to the pedological horizons of the soil. The determination of the function was made using mercury manometer tensiometers installed at the depths of 0.1; 0.2; 0.3; 0.4; 0.5; 0.6; 0.7; 0.8; 0.9; 1.0; 1.1 and 1.2 m and soil water retention curves determined for the same depths, in an Oxisol, located at experimental fields of Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz, University de São Paulo, in Piracicaba (SP), Brasil (22 o 42’ 43,3’’ W and 47 o 37’ 10,4’’ S). The result analysis was made using an F-test in order to verify the paralelism, the intercept equality and the coincidence of the lnK versus q straight lines, taking and not taking account of the assumption of unit hydraulic gradient. Basides, similarity tests of the ( ) q K function were also made by the Willmott (1981) index. From the analysis of results, it could be concluded that, with the procedures used to delimit the experimental plots in this experiment to water the soil profile and to follow the water redistribuition, the unit gradient approches seem to be adequate to assess the field ( ) q K function and also that the pedological horizons seem to follow the layers of similar ( ) q K function, for depths greater than 0.6 m.

O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho do reflectômetro no domínio do tempo (TDR) comparativamente ao tensiômetro com manômetro de mercúrio (considerado como instrumento padrão), dando-se ênfase na sensibilidade de detecção de variações na umidade do solo sob condições de molhamento e secagem. Foi instalado um experimento em um solo classificado como Nitossolo Vermelho distrófico latossólico de textura muito argilosa, localizado próximo ao Posto Meteorológico do Departamento de Ciências Exatas, ESALQ/USP, Piracicaba (SP), Brasil, 22 o 42’ 30’’ de latitude sul e 47 o 38’ 00’’ de longitude oeste. Com dados de um ensaio de determinação da condutividade hidráulica do solo pelo Método do Perfil Instantâneo, de um período de secagem e de inundações intermitentes do solo, analisou-se a concordância entre a constante dielétrica obtido pelo TDR e o potencial matricial da água no solo obtido pelo tensiômetro, além dos valores de umidade volumétrica obtidos pelas mesmas técnicas. Concluiu-se que o desempenho do TDR foi superior ao do tensiômetro sob condições de secagem do solo e na detecção de variações de umidade. / The performance of a time domain-reflectometer (TDR) was compared with a mercury tensiometer (considered to be the norm), emphasizing the detection of variations in soil water content under wetting and drying conditions (as in instantaneous profile method to determine soil hydraulic conductivity). An experiment was performed in a Nitossolo Vermelho distrófico latossólico argiloso (Brazilian classification system), close to the meteorological observatory of the ESALQ/USP, Piracicaba (SP), Brazil, latitude 22 o 42’30’’ S, longitude 47 o 38’00’’ W. Data of matric potential, dieletric constant and water content during a dry period and water application were analyzed. The TDR cable tester was better than the tensiometer to detect the soil moisture variation.

A conservação da biodiversidade edáfica na Floresta Ombrófila Mista favorece os processos de decomposição e ciclagem de nutrientes, melhorando as propriedades físicoquímicas e biológicas do solo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar o potencial dos atributos da macrofauna edáfica, Fungos Micorrízicos Arbusculares (FMA) e de variáveis ambientais explicativas (físico-químicas e microbiológicas) como indicadores de qualidade do solo em duas épocas contrastantes (inverno e verão) em Floresta de Araucária do Estado de São Paulo. Foram avaliadas florestas com Araucaria angustifolia nativa (NF) e reflorestada (RF) em três regiões distintas do Estado de São Paulo. Cada floresta teve três repetições verdadeiras, nas quais, foram coletadas, ao acaso, quinze amostras de solo para avaliação dos atributos físicos (densidade, macroporosidade, microporosidade, porosidade total e umidade), químicos [pH, teores de carbono orgânico (C-org), P, Ca, Mg, K, Al e H+Al] e biológicos [macrofauna, FMA, carbono da biomassa microbiana (CBM), respiração basal, quociente metabólico (qCO2) e atividade da desidrogenase (Desi)]. Nos mesmos pontos de amostragem, foram avaliadas a macrofauna edáfica, a densidade de FMA e a colonização micorrízica em raízes de araucária. Na serapilheira foi avaliada a massa seca (MSS) e foram determinados os teores de C, N e S. Os atributos físico-químicos e microbiológicos do solo e químicos da serapilheira foram submetidos à análise de variância (Two-way ANOVA). A abundância da macrofauna e de espécies de minhocas foram submetidas à Análise de Componentes Principais (ACP) e as variáveis microbiológicas, MSS, físico-químicas do solo e da serapilheira foram usadas como variáveis explicativas (VE). A abundância de espécies de FMA foi submetida à ACP e as variáveis físico-químicas do solo e da serapilheira foram usadas como VE. Adicionalmente, a abundância da macrofauna e as VE foram submetidas à Análise Canônica Discriminante (ACD) e a uma Análise de Correlação Canônica (ACC). A macrofauna apresentou maior riqueza de grupos no verão, sendo que a NF proporcionou a maior diversidade de grupos. A umidade, porosidade total, teor de S na serapilheira, pH, teor de K, CBM e respiração basal foram os atributos edáficos mais importantes para separar as áreas. O grupo Oligochaeta, principamente as espécies Ponthoscolex corethrurus e Amynthas spp., foram boas indicadoras de qualidade do solo e/ou de distúrbio na Floresta de Araucária. Encontraram-se 36 táxons de FMA, sendo os gêneros Glomus, Acaulospora e Scutellospora os mais abundantes. A espécie Ambispora appendicula apresentou a maior abundância relativa. No inverno, observou-se alta correlação da Desi e C-CO2 com pH e H+Al, enquanto que no verão, o C-org, umidade, Mg, pH e C da serapilheira se correlacionaram com a atividade da Desi e C-CO2. Os atributos H+Al, P, porosidade total, S da serapilheira e umidade do solo foram os mais importantes na separação das áreas, independente de épocas de coleta. / The conservation of edaphic biodiversity in Araucaria Forests favors the processes of decomposition and nutrient cycling, improving the physico-chemical and biological soil properties. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential of the macrofauna, mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and environmental explanatory variables (physico, chemical and microbiological) as indicators of soil quality in two different contrasting seasons (winter and summer) in Araucaria Forests. We evaluated forests with native Araucaria angustifolia (NF) and reforested areas (RF) in three different regions in the State of São Paulo. Each forest had three true replicates, in which we collected at random, fifteen soil samples for evaluation of physical attributes (density, macroporosity, microporosity, total porosity and moisture), chemical attributes [pH, organic carbon (org-C), P, Ca, Mg, K, Al and H+Al] and biological attributes [macrofauna, AMF, microbial biomass carbon (MBC), basal respiration (CO2-C), metabolic quotient (qCO2) and dehydrogenase activity (Desi)]. At the same sampling points we evaluated the edaphic macrofauna, the density of AMF and root colonization in Araucaria. We evaluated the litter dry matter (MSS) and analyzed the contents of C, N and S. The physico-chemical and microbiological soil attributes and the chemical litter attributes were submitted to analysis of variance (Two-way ANOVA). The abundance of macrofauna and of earthworm species were submitted to a Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and the microbiological variables, litter dry weight, physico-chemical attributes of soil and litter were used as explanatory variables (EV). The abundance of AMF species was submitted to the PCA and the physico-chemical variables of soil and litter were used as EV. Additionally, the abundance of macrofauna and EV were submitted to a Canonical Discriminant Analysis (CDA) and to one Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA). The macrofauna showed greater richness of groups in the summer, and the NF provided the highest diversity. Moisture, total porosity, S litter content, pH, K, MBC and basal respiration were the edaphic attributes most important to separate the areas. The group Oligochaeta, especially the species Ponthoscolex corethrurus and Amynthas spp., were good indicators of soil quality and/or disturbance in these Araucaria forests. We found 35 AMF taxons, and the genera Glomus, Acaulospora and Scutellospora were the most abundant. The species Ambispora appendicula showed the highest relative abundance. In winter, a high correlation of the microbiological attributes Desi and CO2-C with pH and H+Al was found, while in the summer, the org-C, moisture, Mg, pH and Carbon of the litter were more correlated with Desi activity and C-CO2. The attributes H+Al, P, total porosity, S of the litter and soil moisture were the most important attributes to discriminate the areas, regardless of the season.

Identifizierung und Charakterisierung natürlicher Rohstoffe als Bodenverbesserungsmittel sandiger Substrate

Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit war es, natürliche Rohstoffe als potentielle Bodenverbesserungsmittel zu identifizieren und zu charakterisieren. Es sollte deren Eignung überprüft werden, ein sandiges Substrat in seinen chemischen, physikalischen und biologischen Eigenschaften messbar zu beeinflussen. Anhand von Versuchsreihen im Gewächshaus und im Freiland ist die differenzierte Wirkung der Rohstoffe auf Mais und Weizen getestet worden. Aufgrund einer Literaturrecherche wurden Rohwolle, Schafwollpellets und Biertreber betrachtet. Es zeigte sich für Biertreber, dass dieser große Mengen an Stickstoff (Nt=3,95%; C/N=12,74) bereitstellen kann. Zudem enthält er vergleichsweise viel Phosphor und Magnesium (8,68 g kg-1 und 4,05 g kg-1) aber nur geringe Mengen an Kalium (1,40 g kg-1). Weiterhin lässt sich bei Aufwandmengen von 0,5 M.-% eine kurzfristige Verbesserung der Wasserspeicherfähigkeit sandiger Substrate feststellen. Rohwolle weist im Vergleich zu Biertreber mit Nt=13,56% höhere Mengen an Stickstoff auf. Weiterhin lassen sich mit 35,41 g kg-1 höhere Mengen an Kalium aber mit nur 0,23 g kg-1 bzw. 0,34 g kg-1 geringere Mengen an Magnesium und Phosphor feststellen. Die Mineralisierung der Rohwolle erfolgt im Vergleich zu Biertreber langsam, sodass die enthaltenen Nährstoffe nur langsam pflanzenverfügbar werden. Rohwolle weist zunächst einen stark hydrophoben Charakter auf. Mit zunehmendem Abbau des Lanolins führen Aufwandmengen von 0,1 M.-% zu einer messbaren Erhöhung der Wasserspeicherfähigkeit des sandigen Substrates. Pflanzenverfügbare Nährstoffe stehen bei den industriell aufbereiteten Schafwollpellets im Vergleich zu reiner Rohwolle schneller zur Verfügung. Ähnlich wie bei der Rohwolle werden auch durch Schafwollpellets langfristig Nährstoffe freigesetzt und die Beeinflussung der bodenphysikalischen Parameter ist über längere Zeiträume nachweisbar. Allerdings müssen Aufwandmengen von 0,5 M.-% erbracht werden. / The aim of the study was to identify and characterize natural raw materials as a potential soil improver. The capacity for measurable influence on the chemical, physical and biological properties of sandy substratum was investigated. The differentiated affect of the raw materials has been tested for maize and wheat using test series in a greenhouse as well as in open fields. Raw wool, sheep wool pellets and spent grains were considered based on comprehensive literature research. It was observed that spent grains can provide large amounts of nitrogen (N=3.95\%; C/N=12.74). Moreover, it contains relatively high levels of phosphorus and magnesium (8.68 g kg-1 and 4.05 g/kg, respectively), but only small amounts of potassium (1.40 g/kg). Furthermore, a short-term improvement of the water storage capacity of sandy substratum using a application rate of 0.5 M.-\% was observed. Raw wool has higher amounts of nitrogen with Nt=13.56\% compared to spent grains. Moreover, higher levels of potassium with a value of 35.41 g/kg were observed, but spent grains have lower levels of magnesia and phosphor with values of 0.23 g/kg and 0.34 g/kg, respectively. The mineralization of the raw wool occurs slowly compared to (malt) spent grains, such that nutrients are slowly available to plants. Initially, raw wool has a highly hydrophobic character with increasing depletion of Lanolin a measurable improvement of the water storage capacity of sandy substratum using an application rate of 0.1 M.-\% was observed. Nutrients available to plants are provided quicker by industrially remanufactured sheep wool pellets in comparison to raw wool. Nutrients are released on a long-term basis by sheep wool pellets similar to the raw wool and the influence on the soil-physical properties are verifiable for longer periods of time. However, an application rate of 0.5 M.-\% is necessary.
