<p>There are four objectives of this dissertation. The first is addressing the Native perspective and how that influences both the methodology and theoretical context. The second is developing a context that is both relevant to the Lubicon and myself. as well as the social sciences. The third is describing the field research in Little Buffalo, Alberta over a five year period, and how spirituality and culture shape~; not only perceptions hut human behaviour which is identified as resistance to dominant ideology and oppression. The fourth is providing the Luhicon Cree men and women with an opportunity to tell their story from their own voice. The Architect's first drawn line marks a significant moment where alteration to the site is conceived and intervention with nature is beset. Equilibrium of the natural order; vegetative, habitat, hydrology, and geology are all in a vulnerable state. Rarely do these develop into harmonious balances. More often they are imposed instances. The Industrial Revolution forever changed the relationship between humans and nature, tilting the weight of power towards man. While humans capacity for innovation and destruction have grown enormously, our dependence on the natural cycles and resources of the planet remain and grow more voracious. Yet simultaneously, modern progress has facilitated the physical and psychological detachment of that interdependence. The fundamental elements of our existence are veiled through the efficiency of urbanization and its derivatives of specialization, mass-production, and globalization. This project is an examination of the interrelationship between humans and nature through the lens of civic architecture within a naturalistic setting. The fundamental thesis of this project is that there is a primal biological thread that connects human beings to the natural order, whether on a visceral or conscious level. This project explores the belief that humans intrinsically yearn to reinforce that bond - awakening primordial instincts developed over millions of years of evolutionary survival that have been suppressed by the artifice of modern life. Through a process of retreat and contemplation, this project offers the opportunity of individuals to evaluate and rebalance their own scales with nature and find their own accord and harmony. / Master of Architecture

The work presented in this thesis documentation seeks to find harmony in color and form through painting, sculpture, and architecture. Proportion, composition, and rhythm are the means to such an endeavor. This harmony at which the work aims is that which resonates deep within the human spirit. I begin by surveying the Pre-Pentecost expectations of the Spirit’s outpouring and then unfold both the Charismatic and the Reformed views concerning Spirit baptism. In a final chapter, I propose a combined approach to Spirit baptism – spectacular everydayness - that takes seriously the Charismatic emphasis on the Spirit’s role of power as well as the centrality of community that forms the backbone of Reformed pneumatology. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: In die volgende dokument argumenteer ek vir ‘n sintese van die kontemporêre Charismatiese en Gereformeerde standpunte oor die doop met die Heilige Gees. Ek begin deur die voor-Pinkster verwagtinge van die uitstorting van die Gees te ondersoek, en daarna fokus ek op sowel die Charismatiese en die Gereformeerde beskouings van doop met die Gees. In ‘n finale hoofstuk stel ek ‘n gekombineerde benadering tot doop in die Gees voor – spectacular everydayness – wat die Charismatiese klem op die Gees se rol van krag, sowel as die sentraliteit van gemeenskap wat die ruggraat van Gereformeerde pneumatologie vorm, ernstig opneem.

The following is an inquiry into the phenomenon of “Spirit” and its relation to the practice of locating an acupuncture point. In this context of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which finds its roots in Taoist tradition, the aspect of Spirit shen is understood as being inextricably inter-related, inter-dependent and inter-connected with the Body and Mind aspects of this triune. Eight practitioners agreed to participate in a taped interview describing the experience of locating an acupoint. Although each practitioner described an experience which was unique, four threads emerged which are similar: (1) the practitioner focuses a body mediated awareness inward; (2) this awareness is then extended to the patient; (3) then there is the experience of movement toward the point both with intention and a palpating finger; and (4) when the point has been located there is a pause, followed by the sensation of arrival of the patient’s qi at the acupoint.

This thesis investigates Yonggi Cho's conception of Seongnyeong Undong (the Holy Spirit Movement: HSM) in his pastoral ministry activity at the Yoido Full Gospel Church (YFGC) in Korea. First of all, it examines how Cho's HSM developed at the YFGC from an historical perspective. Secondly, it discusses Cho's main theology and investigates this theology from a systematic theological perspective. Thirdly, it focuses on Cho's belief and practice from a practical, theological perspective. Some scholars say that Cho's theology, belief and practice, particularly of material blessings and Sinyu (divine healing) in his ministry, are similar to those in Korean shamanism. However, other scholars argue that his theological ideas came from the Bible and western theological doctrines and Westerners. The present study assesses these different arguments and concludes that Cho tried to base his theological ideas and his ministry activity on biblical foundations rather than on shamanistic and other Korean traditional cultures, even if he used Korean terms to describe them. The study is mainly based on literary research and is divided into five chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the overall focus of the study. Chapter 2 examines the life and ministry of Yonggi Cho, and the development of Yonggi Cho's understanding of the HSM in his pastoral care since 1958. Using a historical theological method this chapter also shows how Yonggi Cho developed the HSM at the YFGC in his ministry through his written work. Chapter 3 deals with Yonggi Cho's theological background and his core theology — how he understands the HSM, and the root of HSM from systematic theological perspectives. It shows where his main theology came from on the basis of evidence provided in his numerous writings. Chapter 4 emphasises Yonggi Cho's understanding of the Holy Spirit (HS) in his belief and practice. It shows where his belief and practice came from, and discusses what his main belief and practices are from practical theological views. Chapter 5 concludes the study. Three main conclusions are drawn with regard to the 1) historical theological, 2) systematic theological, and 3) practical theological perspectives on Yonggi Cho's understanding of the HS. The thesis concludes that Cho was much more influenced by biblical and western understandings than he was by shamanism or by other Korean traditions, even though he borrowed words from their language.

Esta leitura sustenta-se no pensamento de que nÃo podemos abandonar a anÃlise das experiÃncias em que o espÃrito se manifesta, pois apenas atravÃs delas podemos compreender como a consciÃncia se torna capaz de conquistar o saber de si mesma e satisfazer a si mesma em uma forma de autoentendimento unificado consigo mesmo: o espÃrito. / This inquiry, as the title indicates, intends to present a systematic reading of the consciouness and self-consciouness figures in Hegelâs Phenomenology of Spirit. I argue that we can not renounce experiences analysis in which the spirit manifests, because only through them we can realize how consciouness becomes able to acquire the knowledge of itself and content itself in a mode of self-understanding unified with itself: the spirit.
