Silveira, Márcio Telles da January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this work is to think direct broadcast television from what is called dead time herein, periods less concentrated of flow of the event broadcast. Throughout teletransmission there is clashes between two different information flows - the event and the television - which are resolved in accordance with processes (moldurações) expressing television figures (molduras). When observing the dead time, one can understand more clearly what strategies are employed in this transposition of an event to the television. The object of study is football, based on the observation of the eleven last World Cups final games (1970-2010).

This thesis argued that although there is an evolution in feminist achievements, there are still segments that reproduce the androcentric structure, in this case, sports journalism. The objective was to analyze the visibility and participation of communication professionals (narrators, presenters and commentators) in Brazilian and Portuguese sports programs on TV, transmitted in November 2017 and in April / May 2017. In order to verify if there were differences in the number of female and male professionals in sports journalism and analyze the discursive constructions organized by these subjects. For this, the research was divided in 4 stages: historical contextualization; quantitative analysis regarding the number of male and female professionals in the functions of presentation, narration and commentary in sports journalism; and qualitative through analysis of postures, speeches, behaviors and relations of women journalists. From this, it was verified that in this field there is still a predominance of male professionals (women represent only 11.4% in Brazil and 6.3% in Portugal), and that the female minority still are presenter, and the men are commentator and narrator. In addition, interviews revealed that there are still difficulties to overcome such as: harassment, low opportunity for effective participation and aesthetic charges, underestimated skills and knowledge, rude treatment during interviews, violence in social networks, interruptions and difficulties in to reconcile professional life with personal life, especially with motherhood. This survey testified how the sports journalism is still permeated by a mentality of valorization of masculinities, confirming the initial hypothesis of this thesis: the ethos of sports discourse still remains under the male domain and that there is still an androcentric culture present in sports programs in Brazilian and Portuguese television, presenting different possibilities of performances for male and female journalists, conveying and contributing to the maintenance of representations about what it is to be female and male from androcentric, binary and heteronormative references. Therefore, the reformulation of the stylization of subjects should be a new challenge to be overcome by the sports programs of Brazilian and Portuguese TV. / 1531764 / SUDU1500613

Karlsson, Bror-Emil, Reijs, Caroline January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine how the two largest sports tabloids, Aftonbladet and Expressen, in Sweden represented the male and female Swedish athletes during the Olympic games in Pyeongchang 2018. Furthermore, the study examined how many male and female journalists covered the sport sections during the event and whether or not there were any differences between the tabloids. With agenda setting theory and hegemonic masculinity as our theoretical framework we conducted a quantitative content analysis on every news article revolving Swedish Olympic athletes during the Olympic period. The results showed no significant difference between male and female athletes regarding the amount of coverage in the tabloids. However, other findings were made and showed that female athletes more often got associated with their families and partners while male athletes were associated with their coaches. The study also showed that the majority of journalists reporting from the Olympic games were male.

Sportovní novinář a jeho společenská úloha: srovnávací analýza / The sports journalist and his social role: comparative perspective

MLS, Martin January 2010 (has links)
The subject of the theses is sports journalism, the part of Czech media sphere slightly neglected by academics. The main focus is on Czech sports journalists (without consideration of their specific professional interest) and their social role. This paper has sociological character and its goal is to compare Czech sports journalism in two periods - during the period of ´propagandistic-promotion role´ of media defined politically (primarily by Communist Party) before 1989 and during contemporary period of commercialized and entertaining media - and to compare these two periods. The text can be understood as a contribution to the role of media within the framework of out-of-school education. Theses also contains the analysis of sports journalists role before 1989 and today: only aspect of sports journalists business which did not changed during last twenty years is the essence of their profession. One of two main methods used in this paper is qualitative analysis of questionnaires collected in an email survey: we could compare working conditions and profession opinions of five regional sports journalists. The text also offers professional portraits of respondents which are based the interpretation of their answers. These answers were interpreted by the author from the comparative perspective. Findings and conclusions were used for developing the typology of sports journalists which contains five genuine types of sports journalists. All types are described from several angles and to each type one respondent of our research is allocated as a representative. At the end, author offers critical evaluation of the typology and possibilities of future work on the topic of sports journalism.

Lundin, Patrik, Adolfson, Sara January 2018 (has links)
This study aimed to examine how a Swedish sports tabloid represented male and female athletes in headlines and preambles from a gender perspective. Furthermore, the study also analyzed how much coverage each gender got in Sportbladet, which was the chosen tabloid on which we conducted our study. We used a method triangulation and performed both a critical discourse analysis and a quantitative content analysis. The quantitative content analysis was made on strategically selected pictures inside the paper and the critical discourse analysis was made on the most significant article. The intention with a method triangulation was to provide both understanding in the big picture as well as on a deeper level. Our study shows that, not only do women receive a lot less coverage than men, but also that Sportbladet represented both men and women in a very gender stereotypical manner. An especially interesting finding we did was that women actually occurred in big pictures more often than men in terms of percentage. That is contrary to both our expectations and the rest of our results.

The use of Facebook and Twitter in sports public relations in the 2012 Olympics

Cash, Carol-Anne January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to provide professionals practising sports public relations in South Africa with insight into the use of social media platforms Facebook and Twitter. The secondary data from this study was drawn from the fields of communications, public relations, new media, social media, sport and marketing. South African Paralympic swimmers Kevin Paul and Shireen Sapiro were selected as the case studies and their Facebook and Twitter sites were analysed. The data was analysed leading up to, during and after the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics. Content analysis using quantitative and qualitative data was utilized to conduct this study. During the period 27 July to 30 September 2012, the study was able to evaluate data by identifying the reach, frequency, interaction of the stakeholders and the positive or negative impact social media had on these athletes. The study established that there were correlations between the secondary and primary research that was undertaken. The findings revealed that social media platforms Facebook and Twitter can be useful tools to communicate with stakeholders. Social media can also create support for the athletes, create two-way interaction, create unity and enhance reputation. It was identified that social media could only be effective if it enticed stakeholders to engage with the brand and create two-way communication. Immediate feedback by responding to comments as soon as possible to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders is essential. This can be done through comprehensive planning, monitoring and proactively seeking ways to satisfy stakeholder needs.
