Use of WebDAV to support a virtual file system in a coalition environment

Bradney, Jeremiah A. 06 1900 (has links)
The Monterey Security Architecture (MYSEA) combines untrusted commercial-off-the-shelf components with specialized high-assurance trusted components to provide a trusted multilevel secure environment. However, MYSEA currently lacks a means of providing remote access to data on the MYSEA server, a vital service for users in any client-server environment. Access and interaction with both public and private server-resident data that is constrained by the underlying discretionary and mandatory access control policy enforcement mechanisms of the MYSEA server is required. By enabling the use of WebDAV in MYSEA, this thesis provides a means for fulfilling the above requirement for secure remote access by creating a virtual web-based file system accessible from the MYSEA MLS network. This is accomplished by incorporating the mod_dav module into the Apache web server already installed on the MYSEA server. The use of a module required minimal changes to add the desired functionality. Integration of mod_dav is performed in three stages to aid in tracing the source of any errors. Functional and security testing is also performed, ensuring that the functional and security requirements are fulfilled. This research is relevant to the DoD Global Information Grid's vision of assured information sharing. / Naval Postgraduate School author (civilian).

En undersökning och utvärdering av ledningssystem : Ett delprojekt i ett förändringsarbete / A survey and evaluation of a management system

Roman, Gustav, Nicklasson, Stefan January 2010 (has links)

In past decades information technology has changed the conditions of organizations, not at least within the industry. Advanced IT systems have become a fact in order to cope with rapid changes in the market and to effectively manage an organization’s knowledge. When organizations became more flexible and customized expectations from customers and stakeholders also become higher. These expectations and guidelines are documented in a company’s management system, which can be designed differently depending on what standards the company chooses to implement. ISO standards consist of requirements and guidance in relation to quality, environment, energy, etc. In order to manage and work in line with these standards they are often integrated into a single management system.

This thesis discusses and analyzes how an integrated management system can be an active part of a company’s efforts to control and manage business. One problem in today’s industry is that management systems are not always a priority in relation to other information systems such as production, economics and intranet. For the management system to be successful it must have

priority, especially when its intention is to get the company’s employees to work in a uniform manner following the goals and visions that the management has established. To examine how a company’s management system can be more effective, a situation analysis was conducted at a middle-

sized industrial enterprise. The main focus was to examine the advantages and disadvantages of the management system based on the employees’ wishes and point of view.

In Sweden there are currently two separate guidelines you may use when performing calculations on frameworks, BKR and the Eurocodes. Although at the end of 2010 you are not allowed to use BKR any longer and only the Eurocodes will be viable. The aim of this thesis is to explain how the Eurocodes and EKS work and also how they compare to the current guideline BKR. Similarities and differences between these guidelines are also discussed so that the reader will get a better understanding of how the Eurocodes are applied. The areas discussed are as follows: Principles and advice Safety Classes Symbols and Indexes Lifespan Loads and partial coefficient The thesis also deals with the impact that this transition into a new guideline will have on corporations, guideline costs, education and computer software. As an example a rough estimate on what costs this transition will create on a company with 20 employees is also included. Calculations have been performed in order to investigate how the design values differ between the two guidelines, the Eurocodes and BKR.

Power Management Controls

Kindblom, Malin January 2002 (has links)
In an office building in the US the office equipment uses about 7% of the total electricity use. Eventhough this is a low number, there is still a reason to save more energy, especially since one third of theenergy savings are lost when power management is not enabled. The core in the project ”Power Management Controls” is to develop a voluntary standard, The UserInterface Standard, that manufacturers of office equipment can use as a reference when they developnew equipment and design new interfaces. The interface is an important part of the use of powermanagement and doing this should increase the use of power management and save more energy. Theinterfaces are ofter hidden or inconsistent and confusing, which makes it harder for the user tounderstand power management. A more consistent interface makes it easier for the user to understandthe meaning of an interface and power management itselfThe standard consists of six different parts, which describe what can be done to achieve a consistentinterface. The standard also describes the part of the project called Dynamic Behavior. This part isconcentrating on the interfaces and the behavior of the device over time, which is important for the userto understand. The purpose of this degree project is to study and participate in the project ”Power ManagementControls”, and to understand what is being done to save more energy.

e-infrastruktur som stöd för hemtjänsten

Dahlgren, Henrik, Rune, Malin, Österberg, Jonas January 2008 (has links)
The annual cost of home care services of transport in Falun/Borlänge, is now at 31 million kronor. It is clear from previous research that it is possible to reduce these costs through a restructuring of the existing home-help service. The restructuring aims to have a higher proportion of older people, who are in need of care, to live in special accommodation, in order to reduce transport costs. Therefore there is a need for systems that allow home-help service to plan their operations in such a way that transport is working as efficiently as possible. Through better planning, there are profits to be done. The rewards are not only of an economic nature but also include a reduced environmental impact, better working environment, improving road safety, and better service. One way to achieve this is to give home-help service personnel better navigation aid when they move between the customers. The thesis describes such a solution through a developed prototype based on a standardized interaction between a planning and a navigation service. The thesis describes such a solution through a developed prototype based on a standardized interaction between a planning and a navigation service. Development work has also been a first step in developing a standardized information infrastructure for home-help service. The purpose of the thesis is, on the basis of theory and the experience we have acquired through the development of the prototype, to discuss general issues which are of interest when developing standardized information infrastructure.
