Padronização dos radionuclídeos F-18 e In-111 e determinação dos coeficientes de conversão interna total para o In-111 em sistema de coincidência por software / Standardization of radionuclides F-18 and In-111 and determination of total internal coefficient of In-111 in a software coincidence system

Izabela Teles de Matos 14 March 2014 (has links)
This paper describes the methodology for standardization of radionuclides 111In and 18F and the determination of Total Internal Coefficients of 111In by means of a software coincidence system (SCS). The 111In decays with a half-life of 2.8 days by the electron capture process followed by gamma rays emission competing with internal conversion electrons. The 18F is a positron emitter with a short halflife (1.8 h), used in Nuclear Medicine. The radioactive solutions were provided by the Center for Radiopharmacy IPEN and the masses determined by pycnometer technique. The measurements were made using a Coincidence System 4πβ-γ consisting of a proportional counter in 4π geometry fluent gas and a HPGe semiconductor, coupled to the system was used a digital system called SCS with the advantage of obtaining the extrapolation curve in a single measurement. The activity of 111In was achieved by means of the linear extrapolation technique of the proportional counter efficiency using external absorbers on both sides of the sources. The values of the Total Internal Coefficients were determined selecting the two windows of gamma rays (175 keV and 245 keV). The activity of 18F was determined by means of the linear extrapolation, using electronic discrimination. The Monte Carlo simulation code ESQUEMA version 9 was used to simulate the efficiency curve extrapolation of the 18F, considering the characteristics of the system, the decay scheme of disintegration and all geometric details of the detection system.

In their own words : British sinologists' studies on Chinese literature, 1807-1901

Ji, Lingjie January 2018 (has links)
Adopting a narrow sense of 'literature' as the umbrella term for poetry, drama, and fiction, this research examines the British sinologists' studies on Chinese literature from 1807 to 1901, and addresses the specific question of how both the knowledge about, as well as the collective discourse on, Chinese poetry, drama, and fiction were gradually constructed, narrated, accumulated, and standardized in the English-speaking world in the nineteenth century. This study brings together, for the first time, a wide range of little studied sinologists' writings on Chinese literature, including monographs, journal articles, prefaces and introductions to translations, and chapters on Chinese literature in books surveying different aspects of China. Based on extensive archival investigations, this thesis reconstructs a panoramic view of how these diverse sinological texts acted collectively to create a body of knowledge about Chinese literature. Considering sinological literary studies within the historical and literary contexts which are sketched out in Chapter 2, the remaining three chapters of this thesis examine the three narrative forms I have identified in the sinologists' writings on Chinese literature: the expository, or, direct description and explanation of the characteristics of Chinese literature, the comparative studies between Chinese and English or European literatures, and the historical accounts of Chinese literature. With systematic discourse analysis of these writings, this research aims to unfold the vocabulary and rhetoric, the frameworks and perspectives, and the narrative strategies employed by the sinologists in the discursive formation of the knowledge about Chinese literature. I argue that such knowledge and discourse produced in the sinologists' studies must be understood as the result of the complex dynamics among multiple literary and cultural factors including the English and Chinese literary concepts and criticism, the ambivalent cultural attitudes towards China, the implied influence of British imperial power in China, and the varied purposes and criteria of individual sinologists. A study on the nineteenth-century British sinologists' studies on Chinese literature enables us to trace and explain the historical origins of studies on Chinese literature in the English scholarship.

The arbitrary power of language: Locke, romantic writers, and the standardizers of English

Jang, Sunghyun 01 December 2013 (has links)
Writers from the Romantic period embraced Locke's principle of linguistic arbitrariness as they reacted to the threat to their literary authority posed by the standardizers of English such as Samuel Johnson. Their texts articulate a desire to maximize the potential for authorial freedom that Locke's theory of language offers. By exploiting arbitrary properties of language, writers hoped to transcend the linguistic limits imposed by the standardizers and thus to confirm their status as creative practitioners of the English language. Priestley, one of such writers, capitalizes on the arbitrariness of signs as described by Locke when he envisions a perfect language that shall be universally used in the future millennial kingdom. Predicated upon the arbitrary connection between words and "things of considerable consequence," Priestley's universal language scheme allows the writer to ponder meanings outside the semantic range of standard lexicography. In Pigott's Political Dictionary (1795), Locke's semantic theory becomes the means to radicalize Locke's political ideas, especially the idea of the right of revolution. The arbitrariness (or voluntariness) of signification encourages Pigott to revise Johnson's standard definitions in a way that articulates French Revolutionary principles. Wordsworth sides with Francis Grose--the author of A Classical Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue (1785)--in placing a high value on vulgar English. But unlike Grose, he contends that rural language is "more permanent," i.e. durable, than a refined language. Wordsworth's description of how rustics' language achieves durability reveals that he is deeply conscious of all linguistic signs being arbitrary. Furthermore, the naturalism that Wordsworth attributes to his poetic diction results from his appropriation of the arbitrariness that rules the language of rustics. Coleridge emphatically denies the role of linguistic arbitrariness in his theorization of the symbol. The signifying process that produces the symbol, however, operates by seizing on the possibilities for semantic expansion that the arbitrary quality of the sign opens up. As a result, the privileged status of the symbol, and hence of the "natural" in Coleridge's system, is thrown into question. My reading of Coleridge deconstructs the opposition of natural / arbitrary in his thinking about language. By exerting arbitrary power over the ways in which words stand for ideas, Romantic authors sought to restore the vitality of their literary language and to lead the continued progress of their mother tongue.

Standardization of test methodology: a comparison between three suture anchors

Jonnalagadda, Silpa P. 29 August 2005 (has links)
Suture anchors have been used successfully in many applications in orthopedics. They have been in the forefront of research in the recent years. Most of the studies, though, have focused on human suture anchors. This research concentrates on the veterinary aspect of suture anchors. Currently, there is no standardization of testing methods. One of the objectives of this research is to develop a standardized method of testing that is clinically relevant, at least for veterinary use. Another objective of this research is to compare the durability of three commercial suture anchors manufactured by Innovative Animal Products, Securos Veterinary Orthopedic Inc. and IMEXTM by comparing their pullout loads after cyclic loading. This research also aims to determine whether suture anchor failure due to eyelet cut-out or suture wear-out resulting from the sharp edges of the eyelet is the major cause of failure of bone-suture anchor-bone complexes. Cyclic loading of suture anchors during testing for durability has not been used previously even though such loading plays an important role in determining the stability of the bone-suture anchor-bone construct. The response of the construct to this type of testing followed by pullout tests has been explored in this research.

Adaptation/Standardization of SMEs’ Marketing Mix Elements across borders

Valassis, Kostantin, de Rosen, Yannick January 2013 (has links)
Nowadays, the globalization phenomena makes companies of every size think beyond domestic market. However, implement an international strategy that is efficient is not a simple task for firms. Indeed, companies have to respond to market specific context while they have different characteristics. In the literature, with regard to the adaptation/standardization of the marketing mix, most of the researches have built their theories upon the analysis of multinationals’ cases. Little attention has been paid on the cases of SMEs although in different topics of interest it has been seen that these two types of companies do not behave exactly the same ways. Therefore, this thesis aims to find the reasons affecting the SME’s decision of adapting/standardizing the marketing mix and how do they proceed to do so. A qualitative research has been done with one Belgian small-medium enterprise (Bruyere) that evolves in the chocolate industry and more precisely in the market of pralines. The data gathered, thanks to the interview of two managers of Bruyerre, are structured with the theoretical framework beforehand developed. The analysis and discussion section contrasts and compares the theoretical framework and the data gathered. The research brought specific and significant findings about the small-medium Belgian enterprise (Bruyerre). Beyond general factors affecting their decisions either to adapt or standardize the element of the marketing mix strategy across nations, in this case, we found that managers have to build strong relationships with their partners across nations, take into consideration the nature of their product when deciding the strategy of adaptation/standardization and be flexible for their partners’ requests.

Understanding Buyer Behavior in the Context of Product Adaptation : A Case Study of Volvo Trucks

Steinert, Douglas Eduard, Zen, Fernanda Bento January 2012 (has links)
This dissertation studies the relationship of product adaptation and buyer behavior. By standardizing products, it was possible for organizations to produce in large scale and make them accessible for many different markets. Nevertheless, these different markets also have particularities which cannot be ignored and therefore, product adaptation is necessary to some extent; even for standardized products. Organizations should then optimize their product adaptation police in order to reach an assertive marketing strategy. In this regard, this study develops a model which predicts product adaptation from the understanding of buyer behavior. The understanding of buyer behavior, from the seller organization perspective, can provide organizations with a wide range of information to predict product adaptation.  It was concluded, by using the case of Volvo, that organizations can optimize their marketing strategy by predicting product adaptation from observing and understanding their buyer´s behavior looking at the following variables: environmental influences focusing as well on the industry and segment, organizational factors, motivational factors and the nature of decision-making. Besides these variables, the data coming from after-sale processes and trend reports also help to predict product adaptation.

Product standardization and adaptation in International Marketing : A case of McDonalds

Membe, Nampungwe Beatrice, Doriza Loukakou, Maria January 2012 (has links)
Companies marketing their products and/or services overseas are faced with the decision of whether to standardize or adapt their product offerings. This decision concerns firms commencing to market their products in foreign countries as well as those already operating internationally and is considering expanding into further markets. The standardization of products across cultures is increasingly becoming an important issue that the managers of global firms are today facing. As international marketing in the 21st century receives significant research attention, it seems the cost benefits and administration of standardization strategies has simplified the international marketing approach as well as being an attractive choice for many firms. On the other hand, product adaptation strategies are also being considered as perhaps the most influential aspect for Multinational Corporations (MNCs). Seeing that past research has established that standardization enhances performance outcomes, more recent theories suggests that this may not always be the case. In today's globalized world, the choices of standardization versus adaptation of international products are no longer being seen as an inflexible choice. Instead, combinations of the two options are being regarded, given the dependent factors at a given time on a given market. However, with the emergence of homogeneous (identical) markets worldwide, it is still a question of whether MNCs will or will not intermix both the standardization strategies and adaptation product strategies. To that effect it would perhaps be more interesting to look beyond the dichotomy of standardization and adaptation as product strategies, that is not necessarily comparing which is the better option of these two comparisons. Through a single case study of a multinational fast food retailer McDonalds Company, a research agenda was placed on investigating the level of adapting or standardizing of products by Multinational Corporations (MNCs). Based on the illustrations and findings of the research, it was concluded that the choice of either complete standardization or adaptation is not an all-or nothing proposition, but a matter of degree. Hence MNCs should strive to incorporate ingredients of both approaches based on a clear understanding of the dynamics of the served markets respectively.

Cheng, Wen-chia 17 June 2004 (has links)
The middle period of the 20th century, the births of electronic calculator and information transmission technology, let the civilized development course be faster. Under the situation in the considerable and significant growth of product-producing and cultural dissemination , the compatibility of products is shaped into the top theme that sought together by customers and manufacturers .The growth of the diverse products in markets gives a chance of option to the users in markets .This research shows that it will only be after undergoing the marketable course of competition certainly when every manufacturer introduces the products , could determines that whether it's a market that monopolize or a situation that is formed by the incompatibility of every product from each manufacturer. Based this background, The research was done by using language Visual Basic to write a function about marketing share¡Buser preference ¡Btechnology and strategy to confer when ¡Bwhy and how the competing technologies will become Monopoly or have marketing shares with each other in a long period. From the conclusion of this research, we know what will the firms do under the supposition of this research and there is the description about the limit in this research and the feasibility study in the future.

Use of TENA for Distributing Telemetry Data Within and Between Test Ranges

Morris, Scott A., Torrest, Miguel A., Manshad, Muhanad S., McKinley, Robert A. 10 1900 (has links)
Systems of Systems are becoming more the norm in technology applied to tactical military systems. Because of this it is necessary to greatly simplify the way telemetry data is formatted and shared with other systems that depend on near real-time information. This is becoming necessary for developmental testing, operational testing and tactical training in realistic battlefield environments. Interoperable data is necessary to fuse Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) participants to create realistic actual and synthetic environments for both testing and training. This need for simplified data communications is important for testing and training to link participants at different ranges, as well as to link distributed instrumentation capabilities within a single range. Live systems are either deployed tactical systems or developmental systems being evaluated for deployment. Virtual systems consist of actual tactical hardware and software operated in a laboratory environment rather than installed on operating tactical platforms (e.g. aircraft, ships or vehicles) in order to provide realistic data feeds without the expense of operating tactical platforms. Constructive participants consist of models or simulations to provide realistic effects (e.g. weather, electromagnetic threats, adjacent tactical elements, etc.) that are not available, affordable, or practical to use real assets. This Paper will describe the on-going efforts, including successes and lessons learned to-date at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.
