Lazcano Garrido, Ulises Alexi January 2015 (has links)

A construção de um modelo de acompanhamento da evolução de startups digitais em contexto de aceleração: o caso Start-Up Brasil / Building a model for monitoring the evolution of digital startups in context of acceleration: the case of Start-Up Brasil program

Pinto, Felipe de Matos Sardinha 18 December 2017 (has links)
This research aims to present a methodological model to monitor the evolution of digital startups in acceleration context, based on the case study of the Brazilian public program Start-Up Brasil, that supports digital startups, specifically in the period between years 2013 and 2014. Thus, it describes the model developed by the program and its development process, as well as the main elements present in the literature that have supported it, such as the customer development (BLANK, 2003) and lean startup (RIES, 2011) approaches, among others. The research also contextualized the main concepts related to the thematic, such as startup, accelerator, entrepreneurship ecosystem and innovation habitats. By utilizing both theoretical references and the professional report of the author, who held the position of Operations Director of the program during that period, this work is based on a combination of technical report, descriptive research and bibliographic review methods to then introduce the model. Considering the importance of startups to the development of high impact innovations, especially those related with the Information Technology and Communications (ITC) sector, it is expected that this work can contribute to the development of this area, once that monitoring methods, when well applied, can lead to a better quality of the selection and acceleration of startups, and as a consequence, to the development of the ecosystems in which they are present.

Investidor anjo: uma análise dos critérios de decisão de investimento em startups / Business angel: an analysis of the decision making criteria for investment in startups

Machado, Fabio Gimenez 06 October 2015 (has links)
Startups, characterized by the proposal to offer an innovative product or service with a high degree of uncertainty of success, usually have the need for foreign capital financing to help them reach their growth. Given the uncertainties surrounding a startup company, seldom are there funds available from banks or financial companies. In order to meet this gap in startups financing, one can find business angels, who are individual investors characterized by investing their own capital in startups. What they ask in return is a percentage in the company\'s management. The profile of these business angels has been studied in several countries, especially in the understanding of the criteria that these investors use to reach the investment decision. However, little is known about the criteria used by brazilian angel investors as far as this decision to invest in startups is concerned. Thus, the current study aims at analyzing the criteria that determine the brazilian business angels\' decision to invest in startups. In order to meet the objectives of this research, the methodology was structured in exploratory and descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection was performed through interviews with business angels and experts, where there was an analysis of the importance given by these respondents to the seventeen investment decision criteria most frequently cited by business angels in the international literature, as well as the criteria rated as the most important ones. It was observed that brazilian business angels are similar to those from other countries as they acknowledge importance to the majority of surveyed criteria. The most important criteria cited were \"realistic profitability\", \"interest and benefits of the product\", \"innovation and product quality\" and \"ROI/valuation\". It was possible to identify similarities between brazilian business angels and angels from other countries concerning the importance of decision criteria identified in the literature. The research spotted limitations concerning the access to brazilian business angels, on the national literature and information on the profile of business angels in Brazil. It was observed that the business angel is still little studied by brazilian researchers, what makes it unable to identify a lot of research on this topic. This research contributes for being a step towards the understanding of a still little explored context, the process of investment decision by the angel investors in startups as well as to identify the investment decision criteria considered important by Brazilian angel investors.

Empreendedorismo e inovação na jornada da startup: um framework da sintonia entre os processos / Entrepreneurship and innovation at the startup journey: a framework of sintony between processes

Rocha, Renata Malagoli 21 October 2016 (has links)
The main objective of this project was to analyze and organize two movements that coexist during the creation of a startup: entrepreneurship and innovation. Verifying whether the structuring of a startup (entrepreneurship) can be recognized as a process of innovation and an understanding of how the tools proposed within the theory for these two issues can converge for a single flow of actions. As such, considering the existing published work on the subject, and based upon a practical case, a framework is proposed that helps the startup organize itself on the two levels of organization and innovation. Therefore, by means of a qualitative exploratory-descriptive approach, a research-action was undertaken using the case of a Brazilian technology startup created by a group of post-graduate students. Along its trajectory the startup included new partners and executives with the aim of structuring and promoting a high level of innovation for the Brazilian digital retail market. By means of this approach, it was possible to analyze practically - as well as in great degree detail and depth - the two processes that took place concurrently: the evolution of the startup as a company, and the internal process of innovation for the launch of the products. In order for this practical process to be analyzed and transformed into a proposal for action in the form of a framework, the study of writings on the issue covers matters such as entrepreneurship, startups and innovation processes, as well as a number of tools used in the implementation and management of companies. Thus, by means of the research-action in a real practical case, it was possible to conclude that a macro-flow can exist which regulates the development of a startup (from the discovery of the opportunity, moving through the structuring, and on to its formalization and debut in the market in which it intends to operate) that can combine enterprise processes and innovation at the same time. The symbiosis between the entrepreneurship and innovation processes along a single path, guides the new enterprise through stages that firmly establish it, without forgetting that the innovation is an ongoing process.

Startups digitais: um estudo à luz da teoria do comportamento planejado / Digital Startups : a study in the light of the theory of planned behavior

BÃrbara Sampaio de Menezes 01 April 2016 (has links)
According to different surveys, the information technology sector has been growing in recent years, with increasingly significant data in Brazil and CearÃ. This raises the digital startups considered embryonic deals with characteristics of innovation and growth speed. Thus, this study has the general objective analyze the characteristics of digital Cearà entrepreneurs from the attitude, intention and entrepreneurial behavior. And as specific objectives i) identify the dimensions of the attitudes of entrepreneurs of Cearà digital startups; ii) identify the dimensions of the entrepreneurial intention of the entrepreneurs of Cearà digital startups; iii) identify the entrepreneurial behavior of the dimensions of the entrepreneurs of Cearà digital startups. It was used as a reference the Theory of Planned Behavior proposed by Ajzen (2001) and to establish the attitude dimensions, intention and entrepreneurial behavior, we used the Lopes Jr. works and Souza (2005), Carvalho and GonzÃlez (2006) and Brown, Davidsson and Winklund (2001). In addition, relevant authors in the context of entrepreneurship, were also used some studies on startups, as Amzecua et al. (2013), Frick (2013), Butler and Anderson (2012), Viana (2012), Frezatti et al. (2010), Van der Merwe and Swardt (2008), among others, consolidated the theoretical basis of this study. As for the methodology, the research presents a qualitative nature; descriptive; documentary and field through the study of entrepreneurs cearenses digital startups. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with fourteen entrepreneurs, chosen by accessibility criteria. Data analysis followed the steps of content analysis for qualitative data proposed by Roesch (2006). Among the results it found that the entrepreneurs of Cearà digital startups have the attitude dimensions, especially those related to management and persistence. As for the intention it was found that the entrepreneurs of digital startups, most of them also have the dimensions, especially those related to personal background and entrepreneurial motivations. In relation to entrepreneurial behavior, it was noticed that most of the respondents have behavioral characteristics in their startups focused on entrepreneurship, not for the party deemed to be administrative. Thus, it is concluded that the respondents have all entrepreneurial dimensions analyzed, pointing out that they put the attitude and intention they had to undertake in practice by the way they manage their startups.

Notes from the Neighborhood: Who is writing, what, when, where, how and why

Chadha, Monica 01 July 2014 (has links)
Closure of many mainstream media outlets in towns across the United States have left many neighborhoods bereft of any news about their community. In a number of such areas, former journalists and/or community members have started online news sites that provide news and information to the community. As these outlets focus on a small geographic location, ranging from a neighborhood to a city, they are called hyperlocal news sites. The questions that logically arise then are how are these outlets reporting the news? Are they similar to their mainstream media counterparts or is their approach to news and information different? Most importantly, how do the people who start, or work at these sites, adopt the new all-in-one roles, where they are not only the reporter but also the ad sales manager and the publisher? This dissertation, through a two-method approach, examines these questions and tries to provide answers. An online survey of the people who started and or work for hyperlocal sites, provides data that those working for hyperlocal media have the same demographics as those who work in American mainstream media. The survey results also showed that most of respondents follow the same journalistic behaviors and gatekeeping practices as their mainstream counterparts. From a role identity perspective, the study shows that in the absence of role-models, the journalists-turned-entrepreneurs are in the process of carving a niche for themselves within journalism. In-depth interviews with the respondents reveal that while they identify themselves as journalists, their active role in revenue generation requires them to frame their work identity and present a holistic, positive image of their work. What this study does is capture the dynamism of the journalists’ changing roles. It explains why journalists who start news media sites are unable to monetize their product; they lack role models/exemplars/prototypes that can provide them a blueprint for modeling their behaviors in these new roles as well as the direction in which they take their sites. This research and more in the area can be seen as building blocks towards the creation of a roadmap for them. / text
