Product placement, through recommendations given by influential bloggers, could cause the sharing of information not to be interpreted as forced-on advertising and thus avoids to be passed over as irrelevant information. As the consumers themselves choose what blogs to read according to their own preferences, the companies have the possibility to create a message that is highly adapted to the targeted readers. Through allowing the consumers to pass on the message themselves using this Word-of-Mouth technique, a higher level of credibility is achieved and reflected in the congruence between the theme of the blog and the brand that is being inserted into it. Using the blog as a communication channel allows reciprocal relationships to be generated between the advertising companies, the bloggers and the consumers. These relationships facilitate a communication that is closer and more effective and therefore provides greater possibilities of generating associations. A significant part of the communication interference [due to other factors competing for the consumer’s attention] can be eliminated through the harmony, which introducing a message in a suiting media context, brings. Therefore the use of the blog as an additional tool to a company’s usual marketing channels could result in a more effective type of exposure forced upon the client that could help to increase the chances of the consumer paying attention to, or be influenced by, the advertising.

Undercover Marketing : The method which lies beneath

Stenberg, Karolina, Pracic, Sabina January 2005 (has links)
Background: A coming of age of a generation named Generation Y, which holds negative views on commercial messages, has resulted in the need of special marketing methods which are known to be more alternative. Guerrilla Marketing, being such a method holds beneath it Undercover Marketing which is another method and has the potential of reaching this generation. Purpose: Our purpose is firstly to define a theoretical placement of Undercover Marketing, secondly to define the theoretical views on ethics regarding the mentioned term and thirdly to see if there is a future, a will, and knowledge for its usage within the Swedish community of marketing practitioners. Method: The research for this thesis is done in a qualitative method through a series of interviews with four advertising firms and one freelance artdirector. The interviews were compared to each other and to the frame of reference during the analysis in order to create a more complete picture. Results: In this thesis we have seen that there is a future in the use of Undercover Marketing as it can prove to be the only method able to reach Gen Y. However it must follow certain rules to succeed and companies must take certain factors into consideration prior to attempting a marketing campaign including this particular method.

Öppet eller dolt? : En studie om viral marknadsföring på Youtube

Martinsson, Mattias, Strömblad, Per-Erik January 2011 (has links)
Abstract Purpose The purpose of this thesis is to examine the Swedish students’ habits regarding videos on Youtube and create an understanding towards what makes them viral. The purpose is also to state how companies should make use of visble and hidden viral marketing to get their message out to the customers.MethodThe thesis uses both a qualitative and a quantitative method. At first there was a qualitative focus group with 6 Swedish students. The focus group generated valuable information which later was used to create surveys. The surveys collected quantitative information. Then the information was summarized and analyzed giving consideration to validity and reliability and compared to prior scientific research. The study was then reviewed to determine ways to replicate it with alternative methods.Result and conclusion The authors found that it was not a big difference in the spreading behavior of the consumers in terms of open versus hidden viral videos. The study shows that the companies should rather go with open viral videos because they will gain more brand exposure. If they use hidden videos they will have to be very careful when they construct the video, otherwise the customer might miss the connection between the plot and the brand or product. The study also concludes five important factors to make a Youtube-video go viral. Humor is the most important followed by unexpected events, exceptional talent, shocking events and excitement. Keywords: Viral marketing, Youtube, Product placement, Stealth marketing

Stealth marketing to generation Y

Rehm, Lauren 01 January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to investigate the appropriateness of using stealth marketing to advertise to Generation Y. Stealth marketing is a covert form of advertising where the target audience.is unaware that they are being marketed to. Marketers are skillful at portraying stealth marketing advertisements as very realistic, authentic, personal and conversational messages often communicated in casual settings. This research examines how members of Generation Y respond to stealth marketing attempts in terms of purchase likelihood (before and after knowledge of the attempt is introduced) and ethical perception. The research identifies four types of stealth marketing: brand pushers, celebrity spokespeople, disguised editorial content and viral marketing. Overall, before knowledge of the attempt was introduced, the stealth marketing advertisements tested were effective in inducing purchase likelihood. However, celebrity spokespeople were the most ineffective means of communicating stealth marketing attempts. Content-based stealth tactics (i.e. disguised editorial content and viral marketing) appear to be more effective in terms of generating purchase likelihood, but are also more likely to be deemed unethical after knowledge of the attempt is introduced. It can be concluded that the very stealth nature of a stealth advertisement is key to its success when targeting Generation Y. In general, members of Generation Y are responsive to stealth marketing attempts. These findings indicate that, if selected and executed properly, marketing managers can look toward stealth marketing tactics as a means of effectively targeting Generation Y with minimal fear of negative backlash.

A stealth poker bot: Theories for avoiding the detection of a poker bot during online gaming

Persson, Hans January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to investigate and develop theories to avoid detection during online gambling using a poker bot. A bot is a program that performs a set of operations within a given set of rules without the need of a user to control or monitor the program. The theories must be general enough to be used for a wide variety of popular online poker gaming sites. The poker game referred to in this essay is Texas Hold’em poker, a form of gambling that has gained much attention in the media over the last few years thanks to large payouts and a widespread use on the Internet.

Vilseledande Underhållning : Ungdomars Attityder till Dold Viral Marknadsföring

Alcazar, Alexander, Weiss, Alexander January 2008 (has links)

In this paper, we examine the attitudes of 16- to 19-year olds towards stealth viral marketing in the form of videos posted on websites such as Youtube. Apart from their general attitudes towards the phenomenon, we were also concerned with their views on the ethics involved in this marketing method and how this affects their view on the companies behind the advertising. To accomplish this, we administered a survey to a sample chosen by convenience. Using the Persuasion Knowledge Model and prior research on the subject, we then analyzed the gathered data and reached the conclusion that the respondents in our sample were mainly positive towards stealth viral marketing in this particular form, that they generally did not consider it unethical and that even though most considered the companies to be responsible for such videos, teenagers were not likely to take negative actions against them if they found out that a video that they had seen was in fact a stealth viral video.
